13 best dial thermostats
Dial thermostats are a type of temperature control device commonly used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. They are a fundamental component of climate control in residential and commercial buildings, helping to regulate the temperature by controlling the heating or cooling equipment. Here are some key points about dial thermostats and their accessories:
Basic Functionality: Dial thermostats are designed to allow users to manually set the desired temperature within a space. They typically consist of a dial or knob that can be rotated to select the desired temperature.
Mechanical Operation: Unlike digital or programmable thermostats, which use electronic components and programming, dial thermostats operate mechanically. They use a bimetallic coil or a similar mechanism to control the opening and closing of the HVAC system.
Temperature Control: Dial thermostats provide a straightforward way to adjust the temperature. Users can turn the dial to the desired temperature, and the thermostat will signal the HVAC system to heat or cool the space accordingly.
Compatibility: Dial thermostats are often compatible with a wide range of heating and cooling systems, including furnaces, boilers, central air conditioning units, and more. They are typically used in older HVAC systems or in situations where simplicity is preferred.
Accuracy: While dial thermostats are easy to use, they may not offer the same level of precision as digital thermostats. Users may need to fine-tune the dial to achieve the desired temperature.
Thermostat Accessories: Various accessories can enhance the functionality of dial thermostats. These may include thermostat covers, guards, and temperature sensors. Covers and guards can protect the thermostat from tampering or damage, while temperature sensors can provide more accurate temperature readings.
Energy Efficiency: Dial thermostats are generally less energy-efficient compared to programmable or smart thermostats. This is because they rely on manual adjustments and do not have the capability to create heating or cooling schedules based on occupancy patterns.
Advantages: The simplicity and durability of dial thermostats make them a cost-effective choice for some applications. They are often used in settings where a basic temperature control solution is sufficient.
Disadvantages: Dial thermostats lack advanced features such as programmability, remote control, and integration with smart home systems. This can limit their ability to optimize energy usage.
In summary, dial thermostats are basic, manually-operated temperature control devices commonly used in HVAC systems. They are easy to use but lack the advanced features and energy-saving capabilities of digital or smart thermostats. Accessories are available to enhance their functionality and protection.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where to find replacement covers - the clear plastic disc - that has disappeared |
Answer: | we use it to deep clean metal kitchen sinks at my work so i would assume so. you should be able to find a list of materials it’s safe on through google as well. |
Question: | How accurate is the temperature gauge |
Answer: | Yes, it is an awesome product!! It is the only product that I use for stainless steel pots & pans because all others either scratch the surface or leave the "rainbow effect" that often occurs on stainless steel. I use this product on my glass cook top & it works great with no worry about damaging the surface. |
Question: | Can this thermometer be used for heat only via the wires are hooked in? Also, when the battery dies, does one just throw the thermostat away |
Answer: | It would assist but may not completely work. |
Question: | I'm looking for an HVAC thermostat. Wondering if this was one as I don't see the term "HVAC" anywhere on here. I have electric heat and central air |
Answer: | Well I can't guarantee that BUT if anything will I would bet on this. All I can factually attest to is: it took the water spots off my car's windows, took stains out of my kitchen sink, stains out of my porcelain tub, burnt baked on stains on my pyrex baking dish. Anyone who knows me will assert to my "neatness" and despite every conceivable effort nothing else had accomplished the above until Bar Keepers :) |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this double pole and double throw wifi thermostat |
Answer: | Their website claims up to 32. However logically that seems counter productive. It's unlikely a typical single zone furnace would operate effectively with too many. I might use 2 -4. |
Question: | Is this unit comparable with forced air electric heaters (in-wall)? like the cadet rm202's |
Answer: | Mine replaced a honeywell thermostat. Obviously you'll have to remove the wires from the honeywell and connect them to the ecobee. But it's very straightforward with detailed instructions and you shouldn't have to rewire at the furnace if that's the question. |
Question: | dose this thermostat can be use under floor electric heating with remount sensor |
Answer: | I don’t believe Lite is able to do that. |
Question: | I want to use this as a timer for my radiant floor heating...not a thermostat. Is there any reason that would not work |
Answer: | The wireless room sensors use 915MHz frequency band to communicate with your ecobee. You do not need Wi-Fi connectivity for communication between wireless room sensors and the ecobee. |

Question: | cannot find my instruction book on this. just to cool house when needed. which one is best to used.-F2-F4-FO. thanks |
Answer: | I don’t know whether they will work on a garage floor, but I don’t think they would damage the floor. I use them on our teak boat floor and they work great and do no damage. |
Question: | Reviewers say this unit heats as it runs. I have the same experience. Is this a product defect |
Answer: | They let go of my rug, too. They were still stuck to the floor, but not the rug. Followed directions, never removed/reapplied on the rug side. |
Question: | How low does temperature setting go |
Answer: | Yes, that is specifically why we bought these--for a 2 x 3 rug 1" thick wool rug that is in our front entryway on 1' square ceramic tiles. We play catch with our 20 lb. terrier and every time he would chase down the ball in the front entryway the rug would slip slide every which way. We applied the four corners underneath, set it in place, and stepped on the rug corners which seems to "set" or "suction" the gripper ridges to the tile. No more sliding. |
Question: | When swapping out with the old dial, where am I supposed to hook up the pump wire |
Answer: | Wow. This made me laugh. The troubles housewives face these days. Good thing that no one else in the house has this problem. What if someone doesn’t have a housewife, will the problem never be solved, or does that mean there is no problem. Geez. I’ll find one that works for all people. |

Question: | How accurate is it? I would be using it for a convection electric heater |
Answer: | Yes, the temporary bypass enables temperature override without changing programming. |
Question: | What is the size? 9 X 7 X 4 appears to be very large |
Answer: | Probably not. This is for a resistive load and the pump motor is an inductive load. I would check with Honeywell to be sure. |
Question: | How is this supposed to mount? It's described as if it is a replacement for a thermostat. That's not my situation |
Answer: | 2 main differences that I see:#1 the wattage is different. for the th106, you have 2000/4000 Watts for (120/240 volts) and the th104 only has 1750/3500 watts. it's not a big deal unless you have requirements on how many or how big of heaters you are controlling. For me, I have 1 medium and 2 small baseboards which totals to 2000 watts on 120 volts.#2 the programming is different. on the th106 you can specify temps for each day of the week-differently, whereas the 104's programming allows for weekend/weekday modes. |
Question: | Is this a double pole thermostat |
Answer: | This unit is wired directly to your 220v 2-wire circuit for the thermostat. This is a line voltage thermostat. |

Question: | Does this Thermostat have a off switch? What is the difference between a single pole and a double pole |
Answer: | I was shocked to see on my Rowenta iron that it was made in China, not in Germany like all the advertisements said. I’m pretty disgusted. My first Rowenta iron was made in Germany. When did they change? |
Question: | Can this be used for cooling? or just heating |
Answer: | I looked up maytag on wikipedia and google, they have plants in the US and in Mexico but also own and are connected to many other brands which are made outside the US and Americas. Supposedly the laundry related supplies are made in the US and Mexico. Well, tracking down this exact product seems elusive but do believe that most of the irons that come up on an Amazon search for USA ARE NOT MADE HERE AT ALL-THEY NEED TO FIX THAT ITS FRUEDULENT |
Question: | How accurate is this thermostat |
Answer: | Hi Erin,So sorry for the delayed response. No where in the instruction manual does it mention that the Maytag iron beeps or makes any sounds. When it goes into auto shut-off mode a small red indicator light flashes until iron is either turned off or put in use again. I hope this answers your question! -Kay |
Question: | does this thermostat need to be calibrating because it is about 5 degrees off |
Answer: | WARNING this iron is not usable. It literally shuts off while we iron the clothes and there is not setting to turn off the auto shut off. Very Dissapointed! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the temperature spread from off to on is heat mode |
Answer: | Hi Kevin, Thank you for your question. I went to my product package, and then to the manufacturer website to find the information you asked about. Looking at the product, I found no "off" position, only the basic dial control. According to the manufacturer data, single pole just means "2 wires," and double pole means "4 wires." Hope this is helpful. Best, Mark Mowrey |
Question: | if you loose power to thermostat, and then power comes back on, will thermostat unit turn back on by it self, powering up the heater |
Answer: | NO! the reason is for heat a thermostat must catch a falling temperature and bring it back up, for AC the thermostat must catch a rising temperature and bring it back down. |
Question: | Can I plug this into my Amazon smart plug to control when it comes on from Alexa |
Answer: | It works well but not overly accurate to the degree. In my opinion it is best used for my temp areas. I.e garage bathroom etc. |
Question: | What is the amp rating |
Answer: | I have seven of these in use and only one is off any amount, and if I didn't have the others to compare it to I would not have noticed it at all. All of mine cycle on about one degree below setting and cycle off about one degree above. Also, these thermostats are actually internally branded "Honeywell". |

User questions & answers
Question: | How loud are the relays/"clicks" with this thermostat? The one currently outside our bedroom clicks very loudly and wakes me up at night |
Answer: | I installed one of these three weeks ago. When the relay turns on it clicks loudly enough that it can easily be heard in the next room, so if you're a light sleeper it might wake you up. |
Question: | What is the lowest temperature setting. I just need a setting to keep pipe from freezing, 35 or 40 degrees maybe |
Answer: | It goes down to 40, but be careful. 40 degrees at the interior location of the thermostat does not guarantee that the basement and pipes in exterior walls will stay above freezing. If you have fixtures on exterior walls, typically kitchen sink, leave the sink base cabinet door open to allow the pipes to be exposed to warmer room air |
Question: | Will it work on 12v RV replacements |
Answer: | yes sir, it will work in replace of many thermostats. amazingly inexpensive for all the features. ive used on everything from camp heaters in an rv to full central heat ac systems.hope this answered your question. |

Question: | Can you remove the back plate and just use the 3" X 3" thermostat? It is going on top of a 1 X 4 trim board |

Question: | is this a 2 wire connection |
Answer: | yes 2 wire, but be careful...no off switch even though picture may show one. |
Question: | I have 3 wires,This thermostat has only connections for 2 wires.Can I still use it |
Answer: | This will depend on your situation. If you are just trying to use it for turning on and off a heat source, then it should work just fine. Follow the instructions carefully. Even though you have 3 wires, I'm guessing one of the 3 is not being used. Follow the wire to the other end and see if all 3 wires are hooked up. If there are only 2 hooked up, those same 2 wires will be what you use at the stat. The stat is just like a light switch, just lower voltage. Power will come from your transformer, through the stat, then to the device control you want to turn on. If you have a unique situation and need more help, you can take some pictures and describe your application and send them to me at [email protected] and I will do my best to help you out. |

Answer: | Didn't work for my Millivolt-only, no external power, Empire wall heater. Had to buy a Reed Switch to replace this. See my review 11/13/2020. |
