Answer:	I placed my carpet treads only on the steps, from the top step to the bottom step. Not on top landing or bottom, not necessary in my case.

Answer:	We've had ours on the steps for a couple of weeks. Each stair tread is a single piece of carpet, with what I believe to be a silicon layer underneath that makes it stick to the step. There's something hard inside with a 90 degree angle at the bend. About an inch of the carpet folds over, about the same depth as the wood of the stairs. We haven't had any problems tripping on it.
