Answer:	The key does not need to remain in it to have it locked. There is no way to close it without it locking. When the door closes with or without the key it will lock. You can inadvertently lock the key inside.

Answer:	If they say it is, they're lying. In fact, the seal around that gas spring on the left hand side will more than likely fail and spray oil all over whatever is in the container in a fire. Most of them only hold up to a few hundred degrees at best and a house fire is 800-1200F.

Answer:	Nothing was mentioned in the material I received. But, with confidence I would say no. The top lid is not thick enough to protect items inside from high heat. The inside is not air tight or waterproof. If that is required, I would look to a heavier-duty safe that clearly states its fire proof rating.
Question:	Can you drill a hole in the side for a cable lock
Answer:	I can't see how that would work, since the cable would pass thru the drawers. However, there are mounting holes on the underside, and there are screws provided. It is intended for mounting on a horizontal surface. The instruction manual reads (in part): "IMPORTANT Mounting the safe vertically so that the door flips upward will result in incomplete opening of the save due to weight. The door will open if the safe is mounted vertically so that door opens down or to the side."

Answer:	The HitchSafe fits all 2" Hitch Receivers. An oddity is the Toyota Tacomas and Tundras with have an extra band a metal wrapped around them requiring the longer HS7021T bolts. The HitchSafe fits all other 2" receivers.

Answer:	Outside, 6 3/8" x 9 1/2" x 1 3/4". It's hinged along the 6 3/8" dimension.Inside, at the other end from the hinge, 1/2" is partially occupied by the lock engagement, leaving about 9". The 6 3/8" dimension is closer to 6" inside, due to a liner along each side. There are two 1/2" thick open-cell foam pads lining the hinged face and the bottom of the box.It comes with a 3/32" coated steel cable with loops on both ends. One loop can be locked inside the box by looping it around the lock engagement. The cable exits through a small slit, leaving about 34" of cable to to be secured to something outside the box.

Question:	Is the locking mechanism plastic and weak so a screwdriver can easily pry open the box? (This question based on complaints about a competing product
Answer:	I’m a moron because I broke off key #1 and lost key #2 this week, so I got to play “thief” and break into my own box to get my gun out. YES, it’s pretty well built (metal, not plastic), but I was able to remove it from my car with simple wire cutters. Getting the box open was another story, I couldn’t defeat the lock, not even with my lock pick set because it’s keyed on 2 sides, not just one. The pinnhinge on the opposite side is slightly recessed, so you can’t remove that without denting the lips, which I did with a screwdriver and hammer. I then knocked the hinge pin out with a hammer and small Phillips screwdriver. So will it keep someone from stealing your stuff? Not if they bring along a few key tools, but it’d be difficult enough to discourage a “snatch n grab” kind of theif (or kids).
Question:	Planning to fly soon. how is this tsa certified? don't they need to be able to open the box? the lock on the box doesn't show a tsa red triangle
Answer:	TSA requires the box to be metal and be able to be locked. There is no TSA marking. The government does not do product endorsement. You will need to ask for a declaration form at the airline desk or go to a TSA employee who will take you to a TSA supervisor who will ask you to open the case for inspection. The firearm must be unloaded as well as any clips, etc. No ammunition! The TSA will do the rest after you complete the declaration form. I was a TSA supervisor at a major airport and moved on to rail compliance.

Answer:	The external height, Front: 7". Rear: 5" The internal dimensions are slightly more involved as there is a hump, in the center to clear the trunnel. The dimensions given below are the minimum height, as the locking mech takes up some room along the front. There is an additional 0.5" in some most areas. Center height, Front:3.75" Rear: 2.5" Side sections height, Front: 5.5" Rear: 4.25

Answer:	Its pretty secure. I keep firearms in mine regularly and sensitive work items. It would take some serious work to break it open. Only downside to it is if you have a socket set you can unbolt it from behind and lift the whole thing out. But would take a socket set and time to really look at it and figure that out.

Answer:	Yes, you can. But you cannot register more than 20 fingerprints. If the light flashes 5 times with 10 beeps when you register once your fingerprint, it means the fingerprint storage capacity is full. Answer:	Yes it comes with mounting hardware. If mounted vertically the box should be positioned so that the door opens left to right or right to left. It says if mounted vertically and the spring loaded door has to open upward it won’t stay open. I will note that I have not vertically mounted mine, but when I do I will mount it so that the spring loaded door opens right to left.
