The small leaflet doesn't state where it is exatly made either. I hope and assume it is made in Portland. Hope this answers your question. |

| Answer: | Well first off like any knife I use a worksharp ken onion edition and I don’t have to sharpen it much it holds an edge real well. As a self defense weapon ( I pray you never have to use it that way) it can cleave 1 1/2 in ceader limbs and assorted saplings of the Same size. It would easily take limbs or be an incredible close quarters weapon. Machetes are formidable weapons, in the South Pacific whoever carries one is given a wide bearth and not messed with. | Answer: | Yes it does have a hallow / flat or saber grind , but it gives it a thick spine on it. For $30 I'm pretty happy with it. I have a lot of survival toys and the abs hard shell sheath makes this one of my favorites. I've tested it on tree limbs and does a fine job. But the marbles fireman's axe is my go to if things get busy. This percilla is more of a short task wood working or a better defensive weapon! Probably the better weapons out there for the price. Over all I give it a four out of five stars ... Which is excellent for my standards ... Considering a five star i expect to last threw the apocalyptic times! Hahaha! |

Note, you do NOT get a tracking number to track the item.)...and they will NOT issue a pre-paid shipping label.. So you the customer ate paying for their "screw-ups", which like said previously the supplier Schrade contracted with should bear all RMA costs. Main problem I have is Schrade depends entirely upon the supplier / for Quality Control oversight. I had one of the SCHF45 LEROY'S which upon LIGHT use the blade chipped.. Swapped it for a SCHF1 Survival knife. Went thru 2 of those thru Schrade.. 3 more thru a seller that let me look thru several to find one that was ACCEPTABLE. Problems were: Sloppy machine work SCHF1 has a hollow handle, cap screws on that "waterproofs" that section. Machine work was very sloppy in area O-ring seals against. Coating had "dirt" (metal chips) embedded in coating in sealing area. Handle on one in addition to above, was machined off-center with KNURLING missing on 30% of handle. Sheath would collapse each time blade was pulled from sheath. Obvious wear on coating appearing after 20 minutes on couch playing with knife. The closure strap NOT armoured / postion ed so it doesn't get cut. (Temp fix if you have some velcro at ripping is to put a sacrificial layer over it, otherwise it gets cut in short order. That's off the top of my head. Last thing, related to customer having to PAY return shipping on DEFECTIVE items. Schrade / BTI TOOLS, who is now owned by Smith & Wesson touts how they use the BEST MATERIALS and BRAG about their QUALITY CONTROL... If they are having only a few rejects per 1,000... How come they aren't issuing pre'paid shipping labels for DEFECTIVE PRODUCT ? BudK / CH Kadels whose items are priced significantly lower than Schrade's item upon calling them issue a PRE-PAID SHIPPING LABEL...with a 2 minute phone call. |

| Answer: | Hi, Don't get the Smith's Pocket Pal (the quality is low compared to the Lansky Sharpeners). Buy either a Lansky Blade Medic or a Lansky Quad Sharp (both sharpeners under $15.00). Both are all metal construction (not made of plastic and can take years of rugged abuse without falling apart. Blade medics are my go to in all my packs and bugout bags because they are easy to add a razor sharp edge to your knife very quickly. They have preset 25 degree sharpeners in carbide and ceramic. Also, it has a ceramic stone for free hand honing and a round diamond file for serrated blades. I've always had razor sharp blades using the blade medic. The Quadsharp has four preset carbide sharpeners set to 17, 20, 25, and 30 degrees as well as a white ceramic honing tool to remove the burs from the blade edge. Finishing up with a leather or polyester strop is always a good idea (if you aren't familiar with honing with a ceramic rod/stone which with my sharpening skill works just the same if not better). Remember, ceramic is harder than steel. A little fact: Ceramic stones/rods come in a variety from course to ultra fine. Ultra Fine, Black, Ceramic Stones have been (and still are in other countries) used to sharpen medical scapels to cut open flesh during surgery. The scapel doesn't need to be stroped after using a Black Ceramic Stone. | Answer: | I agree with the other commenters' notes. 3CR13 is China's equivalent of USA's 420-J2 stainless steel. It has 0.35% carbon (the "3") and 13.5% chromium (the "CR13"). With a little added Mn, Ni, and Mo it is a tough and decent stainless steel, a little at the soft end, but that is typical for chopping blades for resistance to chipping and shattering. It may dull quicker than higher-carbon harder knife steels, but again, this is to prevent breakage and permit easier sharpening. The units I have seen are also Titanium coated for added strength and corrosion resistance. I believe the sheath and fire starter alone are worth the $50 price - the knife is "free" and quite good for general use, unbeatable for the price. The rubbery-plastic handle does NOT have a caustic odor like many rubber products from China, so that is also a plus. Regards. |

| Answer: | Very strong. Long as you're not pushing the size limits of the tool, splits green and dry wood well. I've been able to get spoon sized blanks and drawknife them even for better carving. Very useful tool. |

| Answer: | I use a wooden mallet. The froe is outstanding. It makes short work of making kindling. |

| Answer: | A froe is an olden tool to make shakes (as in 'cedar shake shingles') aka wood shingles; and, with the right kind of wood, to make rough planks, as in 2'X6" and so on. The minor use is for kindling but many other knives will do that. Not all wood has grain that splits that straight for making boards and planks. Many woods have grain that twists. Just have to experiment or do research on what ones work best. One can also drive wedges into wood to split out planks. Of course shake shingles are easier as they are usually 24" or less, so they are less twisted. Note the sturdy design, which is made for batoning. To me if you intend to make a shelter with a shingle roof and, or, shingle walls, or tool shed or wood shed and make your own shingles from wood this is the tool for you. The typical one has a handle that is in an 'L' shape, which is twisted to split the wood easier than driving all the way to the bottom. Not that big of a deal. This will do the same thing. |
