Answer:	There are 4 groups available ABC&D, and you can pick any or all of them. In addition there are 4 channels available 123&4. You have to fire all groups(abc&d) on the same channel(123or4), but if you had a second set of strobes on a different channel, then you could use the 4 groups to fire them as well. It has way more flexibility than you can afford to have strobes.

Answer:	They are not the same. The contact points are different. They are simply dedicated to either Nikon or Canon so you can mount the transmitter on your camera hotshoe then you can add your canon or Nikon flash on top of the transmitter and maintain your ttl connection to your larger flash that is mounted to the transmitter. You could use a Nikon transmitter on a canon camera if you did not need to use a TTL connection using the flash on top of the transmitter.
