Given equal diameters, braided line is stronger, or another way to put it, given equal breaking points, say 20 pounds, braided line is thinner. It is much easier to work with monofilament. It is easier to cut, easier to tie knots, and is easier to untangle. Personally, for general purpose largemouth bass fishing, say throwing crank baits, spinners, buzz baits, flipping, etc., I use monofilament. Where braided line shines is where sensitivity is important or where you are using light weight lures. Also, if you are fishing deep and need the extra sensitivity to feel light bites braided line works well. Braided line, because it doesn't stretch, transmits vibrations well. Oh, monofilament is also a lot cheaper. I rarely use braided line. I would use it if I were fishing light jigs deep for smallmouth bass, but that's about it. |
