12 best cheap cycle computer
A cheap cycle computer is an electronic device designed to track various cycling metrics and provide valuable information to cyclists during their rides. These devices are often used by cyclists to monitor their performance, navigate routes, and keep track of essential data. Here are some key features and aspects of cheap cycle computers:
Basic Metrics: Cheap cycle computers typically display fundamental cycling metrics such as speed, distance traveled, time elapsed, and current time. These metrics are essential for monitoring your progress and keeping track of your ride duration.
Odometer: Most cycle computers have an odometer function that accumulates the total distance you've ridden over time. This is useful for tracking your overall mileage and maintenance intervals.
Speedometer: A speedometer function displays your current speed, allowing you to adjust your pace to meet your cycling goals or stay within speed limits.
Trip Functions: These computers often provide options for recording and resetting trip data. This allows you to track individual rides separately and monitor your performance on each trip.
Calorie Counter: Some cycle computers estimate the number of calories burned during a ride based on your speed and time spent cycling. This can be helpful for fitness enthusiasts.
Cadence Sensor Compatibility: Some affordable cycle computers may be compatible with cadence sensors, which measure your pedaling rate. This information can help you maintain an efficient pedal cadence for better performance.
GPS and Mapping: Higher-end cycle computers come with GPS capabilities and can provide turn-by-turn navigation, route planning, and mapping features. However, budget-friendly options may lack GPS functionality.
Wireless and Wired Options: You can find both wireless and wired cycle computers. Wireless models are more convenient as they reduce cable clutter on your bike.
Backlit Display: A backlit display is essential for night rides, ensuring you can read the information on your cycle computer in low-light conditions.
Water Resistance: It's important for a cycle computer to be water-resistant to withstand rain and splashes while riding.
Mounting Options: Most cycle computers come with handlebar mounts for easy installation on your bike's handlebars.
Battery Life: Consider the battery life of the device, especially if you plan on long rides. Some cycle computers use replaceable batteries, while others have rechargeable batteries.
Price Range: Cheap cycle computers are typically priced under $50, making them an affordable accessory for cyclists of all levels.
Remember that the specific features and capabilities of a cheap cycle computer may vary from one model to another. It's essential to assess your needs and budget to find a cycle computer that suits your cycling style and requirements.

User questions & answers
Question: | I see this connects to strava. i assume this means it also records to segments and kom’s |
Answer: | This bike computer uploads to the iGPSPORT app. Then the iGPSPORT app feeds to Strava which records the segments and kom’s. |
Question: | Why would i need a speed sensor?? cadence, heart rate yes, but speed??? gps should do that. clarify, please |
Answer: | A precisely calibrated mechanical/electronic speed sensor may be more accurate or at least more consistent if you are in an area with limited GPS access, such as in a tunnel or canyon or among buildings, also speed in very steep terrain may be under reported by GPS since horizontal measurements are more accurately reported than vertical measurements. GPS needs at least 4 satellites to accurately triangulate. For a cyclist the differences are probably not significant. |
Question: | Does the read out show kph and mph |
Answer: | It supports both, you can switch it |
Question: | Has it sensor on the wheel |
Answer: | No it does not. ANT+ sensors available |
- GPS BIKE COMPUTER: High-sensitivity GPS receiver for fast positioning, live-tracking your place, speed, distance, be of instant upload and riding data sharing capabilities.

Question: | Is there a current distance and accumulation distance. I ride 100 miles a week and load current distance to Strava after ride and use accumulated for |
Answer: | There is a current and a total odometer. |
Question: | Does it give turn by turn navigation |
Answer: | It tracks your route as you move however it’s not a gps that commands you to turn left in 1 mile...as an example. It will provide you with data after you complete your travel route. The digital readout shows speed, distance, time of day, outside temperature and slope. |
Question: | How do you reset the trip odometer back to zero |
Answer: | Turn it off n on |
Question: | Is there a way to change the distance from feet to miles? The instruction only provide for mph. Why would I want to measure a bike ride in feet |
Answer: | Doesn't just measure the first .1 mile or so in feet? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this display/record cadence & HR |
Answer: | No, this just displays Current / average / maximum speed, Trip distance, Total distance, Moving time, and Clock. |
Question: | how does it track bicycle speed |
Answer: | This Cateye has a sensor that wirelessly connects to a receptor attached to the front fork. This receptor aligns with a small magnet attached to a spoke in the front wheel. You must program the circumference of your front wheel and it will accurately calculate speed and mileage. The receptor meets with the magnet every rotation with spacing at approximately 7mm apart. |
Question: | Has anyone tried this on the rear wheel? I want to use this on a stationary trainer, but the front wheel doesn't spin on that setup |
Answer: | I don't think it matters which wheel you use as long as you can attach both of the necessary parts to activate the devise. The rate at which the small magnet passes the receiver is what is used to establish speed and distance. Just be sure the the diameter of the rear wheel is within the adjustments allowed. |
Question: | Is this unit only auto start/stop or does it have manual start /stop |
Answer: | It is auto start/stop only. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work on 20 inch wheels? (Recumbent wheels |
Answer: | This has a manual that allows for the coding of dozens of tire sizes. I’m sure it would work on a 20” rim. I would have to get home and look at the owners manual. I’m safely assuming you can. |
Question: | how can I keep the cateye padrone from resetting during a ride |
Answer: | 1. I was told this is a battery slightly loose problem and to add a piece of scotch tape to the back of the battery and re-install. I folded a 2" piece of tape in half to get rid of the sticky. Re-installed - It worked. NOTE: Don't forget to write your Odometer mileage down - it will reset 000 when you open the battery door 2. Also mounting the Pedrone on a stem that is angled up can cause resetting problems (was told this by the factory). |
Question: | There are several cateye padrone cyclo computers on thise site with different prices. Is there a difference in these computers |
Answer: | it seems to me there is a version without stopwatch feature ...and version with ... check !!! I bought the latter ...... the earlier may be an older model ... |
Question: | Does the Padrone have the interference issue with led lights like cygolites? I have a strata that drops out when I turn on my head light |
Answer: | I purchased a new bike recently and decided to buy a new Cateye Padron & head light (Kryptonite) at the same time. Mounted the extras to the handlebars and calibrated the Padron. No issues.....until....riding at night with my light on. It took me a few night rides to put 2 and 2 together, but I finally discovered the interference PROBLEM associated with the Padrone. Quite frustrating as I ride almost exclusively at night during the summer months. My FIX is putting a layer of foil tape around the light. Somehow that mitigates the interference problem and I can once again log Ride miles on the Padrone....but man, my light is ugly as sin now! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does it show total altitude gain for current ride |
Answer: | Yes, it does however let me give you some great advice - are you a road rider or a mountain biker? Because the elevation tracking cuts out when you ride under thick trees. Somewhere in the manufacture literature (it's buried) it talks about trying to stay our from underneath thick foliage as it could interrupt the GPS signal. Well, it did - big time. When comparing to my wife's VDO computer after a ride the M7 was nearly 50% off on the elevation gain. That was day one of our ride. So the next day I paid more attention to it and saw that it would stop registering whenever we hit heavily wooded areas. So I returned it. So if you're a road rider it will probably work fine however if you're a mountain biker unless you only ride in wide open areas I wouldn't buy this. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work with an older Airdyne stationary bike? The computer stopped working and it can’t be replaced |
Answer: | I hate to try and guess, kind of like when you call customer support for something and they ask questions like "is it plugged in?" The only thing I can suggest is to make sure the computer is completely in the cradle with a "click." Other than that, maybe it's a short in the wire going to the sensor. Hope any of that helps. |
Question: | Are the listed product dimension of 8”x9”x10” correct |
Answer: | The main computer has a clip that is installed on your handlebar with zip ties (the base) There is a wire that runs from this clip which you run down you front fork. There is a magnet that must be in line with the sensor on the wire. The magnet is mounted on a spoke. The product comes with zip ties. Question: | Is the display the same size as the Padrone model |
Answer: | Hi Laura, I have it set to MPH. I have not been in a rain storm yet so I don't know about water tightness. I am so pleased with this bike computer!! |
Question: | Why do folks respond with "I don't know the answer to that question |
Answer: | Yes. Just stick the magnet to the flywheel. No glue or anything necessary. On my Proform 290 I was able to ziptie the sensor to where the flywheel attaches to the frame of the bike. Wheel size is 18" on mine. Finding a spot for the sensor is the trickiest bit. You may have to "MacGyver" something. The speed and distance don't really mean anything as it is a spinner but since you probably have a good feel for your resistance setting it is nice to have a few numbers to compare from one workout to the next. Took about 5 minutes to install and about the same to program. |

Question: | Can the light be turned on and off manually |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | I have a sunseeker fat tad csx recumbent trike. Can you please lookup the bike and let me know if a rear or front mount will work |
Answer: | It looks like a nice set of wheels. I like the fat tires. Regarding the mounting of the computer. I would think you want to mount it on the stem where the cranks are ( pedals) The display is pretty large. You should be able to see it from the seat. Check out a site named bentrider.com. It’s a forum for recumbents and trikes. Search, computer mounts. There are several offerings that will allow you to mount almost anything. Have fun,, |
Question: | Looking for odometer for a senior's walker with 6 inch wheels. Would this work? Other suggestions? Thanks |
Answer: | No the wheels are too small. They have an app from under armor for your smart phone that is called MapMyRide and I believe it also is for walking, you may want to give that a try |
Question: | The backlight have a on/off switch or does it stay on during 6pm-6am |
Answer: | You can set the time you want the light to be on when you press the mode button. I have mine set for 8:00Pm to 6:00Am. |

User questions & answers
