Question: I got this a few weeks ago. Minimal instructions. Does this thing only to to 160 c? I could not really melt in a very hard wax
Answer: I don't know if the iron goes over 160C, but I'm pretty sure that you risk seriously damaging your skis if it does. My iron automatically goes to 130C when I turn it on, and I always dial it down to as low as I can. I work with junior racers and many of them have damaged bases, and in some cases damaged cores, because of having been treated with too-hot irons. If you have wax that won't melt at 160C, I highly recommend a different wax. Sorry for the lecture, but wax is cheaper than skis.

A: A wax iron with a digital display of temperature allows you to dial in any temperature in 1 deg C increments and allows you to view the iron's change in temperature as you adjust the setting up or down. Q: Does the digital feature control the iron temperature or merely display it? A: Common digital irons (RaceWax PA-6000, Toko T14, or Swix T73D) have an analog thermostat with a digital readout; it does not control or set the iron temperature - it is a readout of the temperature. For true microprocessor control of the base plate temperature choose an iron such as the Toko T18 or any high-end Swix digital iron.
