-To detect leaks while minimizing false alarms, turn the sensitivity dial upward toward (+) until the device begins to alarm away from any gas leak. Turn sensitivity dial downward (-) slightly until alarm stops and 1st LED just turns off. Now, any small increase of gas level (as from a leak!) will cause the alarm to sound.

-If alarm sounds prematurely, sensitivity needs to be decreased to prevent false alarms.

-Each leak varies in leak rate and background gas concentration, so adjust sensitivity level to find any leak.

-Allow device to warm up sensor for 10s until yellow “Warm Up” light turns off.

Answer:	I suspect it can. If you have wind conditions of course that would affect how much gas the detector would pick up but if it was close enough to the source it should work

Answer:	I looked at the instruction manual and the box and it doesn't say anything about being UL listed. It is built in China but I don't know if that has anything to do with what is or isn't UL listed. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Answer:	Generally yes although you could attach it to a portable external battery for smartphone as the power input is 5 volt micro USB. Hope this answers your question.
Question:	What does it mean if it flashes blue & talks
Answer:	It depends on the ambient conditions but generally the limit for operation of a gas detector is around 4-5 years. Most gas detectors fail in 2-4 years due to the filament type sensor used. Consequently, regular testing of the device is essential to ensure operability.
Question:	i had to unplug this from the wall. I plugged it back in it turned blue then keeps saying something that I don't understand. can't find instructions
Answer:	Yes, the alarm will continue sounding until the concentration of combustible gas is less than 5% of the lower explosive limit.
Question:	About how long will this product last before it needs to be replaced? And how do you know when it needs to be replaced
Answer:	You could theoretically use the product with a battery and USB solar panel power supply but there is a limit if using with only a battery. For example, physical limit for 4000 mAh battery is 4000 mAh/110 mA = 36.4 hours assuming the FULL 4000 mAh is available for discharge which it is not usually as the 4000 mAh seen is rated by the battery manufacturer for charging of phones, not powering alarms. There is a natural drop of voltage as the battery discharges from ~5V to 3.6V. What can be done is get a battery with a larger capacity such as a 6600 mAh battery (or put multiple batteries in a parallel circuit if done safely).

Testing/Tips:

Charging NOTE: When you plug in usb cable,the indicator in side switch will show steady blue light or a rapid dim fast-flashing of red,which means a power source is detected, but the battery didn't connect to power source. 1. Tighten the End Cap and the Body properly. 2.Press the tail switch to turn the light on (the same as you turn on the flashlight). Then the charging indicator slow blinking red. Steady blue light shows fully charged. Charging 1. Press the switch enter the open mode, and then connect the flashlight to a power supply with the USB cable. 2. Answer:	Don't worry, it's normal, the large moisture change can affect the sensor performance, and may lead to false alarm, but the data on display only switch to 1,2 or 3, but won;t trigger the voice and light alarm. Answer:	I really don't know. Frankly, I must have missed a directive about the unit must be near the ceiling. I don't know any homes with outlets near the ceiling. My understanding was the outlet not be ground level to detect gas properly. I have an outlet about mid high on the wall. My understanding of direct plug into outlet is to prevent any other device failing in between or becoming unplugged. The only way the manufacturer can say his device works is to use it as designed. Techamor Portable Gas Leak Detector/Sniffer - Y201

The Y201 portable sniffer is an easy-to-use device that provides sound and visual alarm in presence of methane, propane, such as LPG, fuel and natural gas.

It’s mainly used to find and locate exact gas leak point along gas pipeline, around fittings or connectors at home & VR, and other similar applications. Helps to save hundreds of diagnostic fees from technician or plumber, and makes it's possible to debug gas leakage anytime by DIY.

2.1 Warm up process: around 10s

The speaker will always have “di didi…” until we turn off device, except one moment in step 2.2. At warm up period, ticking noise frequency is slow: around 2~3 times/s.

The knob is used to adjust sensitivity of detector after finish 10s warm up process, during the process, no matter how to adjust the knob, the device won't have any reactions.

2.2 Rotate the knob to adjust sensitivity

If the alarm sounds prematurely and LED lights are on after warm up, need to decrease sensitivity to prevent false alarm (dial downward "-", shown as red arrow) .

Rotate the knob to adjust sensitivity until the first bottom LED turn off or at the threshold of lighting up, and the moment that ticking sound stops. This is the best status.

But if it's inconvenient to get the best status, we can just make the first bottom LED be on and have slow ticking "di di...." sound. Because once encounter leakage, all the rest 4~5 LED will be triggered on together at just one moment.

2.3 Ready to sniff or trace leakage

Move the probe along pipeline or around the suspected leakage points, such as fittings, connectors and switches, once encounter gas leakage, all 5~6 LED lights will be triggered immediately and the low frequency (2~3 times/s) ticking will change into piercing sounds (frequency 6~7 times/s, too fast and human ears cannot distinguish one time by one time) .

4.1 Could tell more related to use?

1) Easy to understand video will be good choice, refer to “How and where to use the Y201 gas leak detector” around pictures area at beginning . 2) Get service support, engineers on staff from factory online will help to answer any questions related to leakage if above video can't help to understand.

4.2 Why always has ticking sound?

The design of ticking sound has two purposes: 1) Indicates the device is working.For some cases, we need to extend the probe to the area that we can't see LED lights, customers could judge thru the sound changes. The green power LED light is also used to indicate the device is working. 2) Represent different levels of gas leakage. Low frequency (around 2~3 times/s) means warm-up period or no leakage, if changed into high frequency (around 6~7 times/s) during detection process, means encounter leakage issue.

Notes: above is based on we set sensitivity well, because if we rotate the knob at anti-clockside too much, even there don’t have any leakage, all the 6 LED will be triggered on and sound will become piecing high frequency.

4.3 Some batteries only use 10~15 minutes, then low battery indicator is on.

According to our experiment data at lab for different batteries brand, usually last from 15 minutes to 4 hours. Different brand batteries have very different quality. Indeed, the device is hungry for batteries. The sensor in the probe needs large power for micro burning process and we can feel a little warm if we use finger to hold the probe. Another reason maybe product itself, components (resistor, capacitor......) tolerance or damage on the PCB board may also lead to large power consumption, but the rate is very low.

Usually when we find customers from home inspection company, we will suggest purchasing rechargeable Li-batteries, because their technicians or plumbers use the device frequently and Li-batteries will help to save some batteries cost.

4.4 Is it normal or safe if get 1 red bar when move to high moisture room, around connectors or simply blow on probe?

Don't worry, it's normal, the large moisture change and CO affect the sensor performance, and may lead to false alarm by 1~2 LED red bars, but only last for 1~3s (very short time) if we move probe away. If we encounter leakage along the pipeline or connectors, all 5~6 LED bars will be triggered on at one moment, light and piercing sound alarm will last at least for 6~8s.

4.5 what's best distance between probe and pipeline/ranges/connectors.... during check process?

Recommend 1~10cm, if too far, concentration will become smaller as distance increase from leak point, and maybe not enough find and locate tiny leakage.

4.6 How about bubble method to check leakage compared with Y201?

Bubble is very good way and can be used to check all kinds of gas leakage while Y201 is mainly used for combustible gas. But for very tiny leakage and very strong leakage, bubble method maybe not good enough: 1) too tiny leak can't blow up bubble, too strong will blow the liquid away and can't have bubble, 2) some areas we can't extend to apply bubble liquid, 3) need good luck and skills to control the bubble liquid concentration if DIY bubble liquid, 4) in some case, liquid contact may lead to equipment or device damage.

The best way is: use both methods for double confirm if allowed, since bubble is more visible.

Y301 combustible gas detector is located in a fixed place to monitor constantly and can give out a visual and audible alarm when gas concentration is above 5% LEL. Alarm level ranges from 0% to 20% of LEL for multiple combustible gases including methane, propane, coal gas, town gas, LNG etc.

1.1 Extension Type (Y301) Installation

Smooth walls use 3M circular double side adhesive sticker or fasten the detachable back plate by 2 sets of mounting screws.

Rough walls only use 2 sets of mounting screws to fasten the detachable back plate， pay attention to the direction of the detachable back plate, refer to the up arrow.

1.2 Plug-in Type (Y302) Installation

1.3 Natural Gas (Methane) VS LPG (Propane)

Natural Gas is typically supplied through a main utility line connected to your home, which is comprised of methane gas and much lighter than air, in case of gas leakage, natural gas rises towards ceiling and accumulates in areas near ceiling, mount your detector around 30cm (12 inches) away from the ceiling and 1.5~3 meters away from gas supply to ensure the earliest opportunity to detect a leak.

Propane is typically supplied to homes via delivery truck in liquid form and stored near the home in propane tanks, and much heavier than air and will collect at lower levels. Mount detector around 30cm (12 inches) away from the floor and 1.5~3 meters away from gas supply to ensure the earliest opportunity to detect a propane leak.

2.1 Step 1: Enter into 180s Warm-up period

• 180s for warm-up process when power on.
• During warm up process, short press TEST Button can switch language, default is English.
• Don’t apply gas to test during the warm-up process because the gas won’t be detected.

2.2 Step 2: Normal working

• Periodically observe the detector to make sure the Green Power Indicator is on. Press the TEST button, the three lights flash and there’s a voice prompt.
• Test your alarm with butane from a cigarette lighter or propane source to make sure its function, recommend at least 1 time per 3 months.
• Ocassionally, the data may skip into 1, it's maybe enviroment humidity lead to the sensor tolerance. Don;t worry, it's normal and will recover to 0.
• Don't paint, don't apply abrasive solvents or other cleaners. Chemicals can permanently damage or temporarily contaminate the sensor inside.

2.3 Step 3: Alarm level ranges from 1% LEL (500ppm) to 20% LEL (10000ppm)

• Pre-Alarm set point is 5 (= 5% LEL, 2500ppm).
• The detector will give out a voice prompt and Red Alarm Indication flashes when the gas concentration is equal to or above 5.
• Visual and audible alarm will continue until ambient gas concentration falls below alarm set point (5% LEL, 2500ppm).
• When the gas concentration is more than 20 (=20% LEL, 10000ppm), the number on digital display will be changed into letter A.
• Press the TEST button can mute/silence the Alarm noise, but red Alarm light will continue flash until gas concentration drops to normal status.

2.4 Step 4: Get after service support when Yellow Fault Indicator Flash on

• If the Yellow Fault Indicator flash on or Digital Display will show ERR (abbreviation of error), which means sensor has lost efficacy and can’t finish data collection.

How to install?

1. The gas leak detector is equipped with mounting adhesive and screw,adopts easy to install, plug and play design,you can choose the installation method according to your needs.

2. Natural gas is comprised of methane gas that is lighter than air. In case of gas leakage; gas rises towards ceiling and accumulates in areas near ceiling. Therefore, for natural gas, the detector shall be located in a position of 30cm under the ceiling and 1.5-4 meter(s) away from gas supply.

3. LPG is comprised of mixture of propane and butane that is heavier than air. In case of gas leakage, LPG falls down to ground. Therefore, for LPG, the detector shall be located in a position of 30 cm above the floor and 1.5-4 meter(s) away from gas supply.

Display real-time

When a gas leak is detected, the level ring is displayed and "There is gas leak. Check now" is heard. When gas leak level raises continuously and preset level is reached, the detector alarm sound, the red alarm indicator flashes.

Heat alarm

When the temperature around detector increases to preset value, the red alarm indicator flashes, the value ring is displayed, "Heat alarm, Check now" is heard and a same text notification is pushed to your mobile.

Notice: The temperature display is the temperature of the host. The temperature will be a little higher than the ambient temperature.
