FOR FOLDING, THE TOP NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. THE TWO SHELVES FLIP UP AND THUS ARE OUT OF THE WAY FOR A FOLDING PROCEDURE TO OCCUR. TOP ON THE OTHER HAND IS A SOLID PIECE ADDED AND MUST THEREFORE BE REMOVED BEFORE FOLDING. I HAVE SEVERAL OF THESE AND THEY ARE EXCELLENT FOR MY USE AND I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THEM.
