Usage Directions



√ Remove the coating, the ferro rod comes with a paint of coating that prevents oxidation

√Prepare effective tinder, such as cotton balls, jute twine, sisal fiber, very fine organic fibers,

dry grass and tissue etc.

√ Scrape some ferro powder on tinder, use the serrated end of the scraper, angle the scraper

at about 45-degree angle. Place the end of the rod right next to the tinder, place the scraper on

top of the rod and drag the rod back. If you whittle the scraper, you may bump your tinder away

from the sparks.

√ Put it in a ziplock bag after you use it so the moisture doesn't get to it.

Answer:	Perhaps they have reduced the number of rods in an order from 10 to 8 and did not change the photo. That's all I can think of.

Answer:	Sometimes there is a coating on them. I take mine to a wheel grinder and knock off some of the black. I also take a piece of sawzall blade, wrap some duct tape around 1 end and use that. Worked on every rod I have and I have a bunch of makes and sizes.
Question:	Do you get 1 orange and 1 black one for a total of 2 in the package? What is the difference between the orange and black one
Answer:	3 inches. Drill a hole in a wooden dowel. Crazy Glue the ferro rod into the dowel. Then drill a hole at the far end of the dowel and run a piece of 550 paracord through it to hang it around your neck.

Answer:	My experience with this rod is you cannot scrape off bits of rod material like the inexpensive fire starters you can get at Harbor Freight. BUT... you do not need to. Striking this rod produces some very strong and hot sparks. I have had no problems starting a fire by striking sparks into a cotton ball coated with petroleum jelly.

Answer:	The rod is likely Ferrocerium and not Magnesium. Magnesium firestarters usually have a light grey block where you can shave flakes off that burn white hot when introduced to spark. The ferro rod creates the spark when struck with a sharp steel blade.

Answer:	I'd like to be informed why Amazon is blocking any reviews of this item? It is an item I purchased and by luck not pleased with is craftsmanship in anyway. By blocking the reviews but at the same time still selling the item it gives the impression of trickery. Amazon needs to ensure that they don't give any impression of improper dealings especially when they are personally involved in the daily sales of an item in question. I just learned that Amazon is blocking 12 items that I'm attempting to review after purchase. Answer:	Corn can make deer and mule deer very sick. It upsets the PH of their system and will not allow them to absorb nutrients. Try Monster Meal or Purina Antler Max instead - both are good for makes and females and young deer too. I’m in CA and we support a herd of mule deer and mistakenly tried corn and it was a huge mistake. Made a female lose her fur. Monster Meal is a sold buy and it lasts a long time.

Answer:	For me a 40 lb bag lasted about 5 minutes while I dumped the whole thing out around my property. It just depends how much you want to feed and where. I'll tell you that corn is like candy to squirrels, deer, hogs and more. No matter what it wont last very long once you've dumped it.
