Everything you need to secure (1) boat to one side of your vehicle comes in one box. And if you want to carry (2) boats then place an order for (2). I nearly placed an order for (4) solely based on description… Or lack there of… but due to the cost of this particular product I ordered (2) instead. Which led to the pleasant surprise of getting (2) of everything in each box. This should clear up any questions or concerns when ordering this product in spite of anything anyone may tell you about package contents. We love them and the fold down option allows the car to be stored in the garage. (Plus it looks better).... We carry 2 Current Design 12 foot kayaks (plastic) without any issues. The weight and hight of our vehical requires both of us to load, but it's not a problem. Hope this helps. |

I don't use them for this purpose because I firmly strap our kayaks so that the straps are in front and behind the raised cockpit flanges. This keeps the kayaks from sliding back and forth in the mounts. I check the tightness periodically when taking rest stops during our travels. I've never found a need to use the tie down cords. I use them for other uses. We typically travel about 65 mph when the kayaks are mounted and we're towing the travel trailer. And we've been in some 50+ mph head winds that add to the 65 mph car speed forces with no issues. |

| Answer: | Most of these answers seem to be from rec boaters. In the whitewater community it’s common to load as many boats as will fit on their sides on the bars for crowded river shuttles and then add more on top in extreme situations (short distance shuttle roads). Because of this whitewater vehicles typically go with bars much wider than usually recommended by Thule / Yakima. A whitewater kayak takes up about 12 inches of rack space and most whitewater kayakers who have medium length bars will set these up so you can put one kayak on one side and fill the other side with as many as will fit on the bar (i.e. off center). This makes it much easier to load just one boat when you are carrying one boat for yourself and load more boats on the other side with you are with friends. With the longest crossbars some set them up so you can load 2 on one side and the rest on the other. There’s no need to put the stacker in the middle of a wide set of bars - just makes loading and tying 1 or 2 boats that you usually carry more difficult. One other solid piece of advice - if you don’t want to see a boat bouncing down the interstate or off of expensive vehicles following you or torn to bits by trucks ... you get the picture, always always always run the rope or strap through a security bar or handle on every boat so it is impossible for the kayak to slip out from under the straps. It’s happened to me twice - once on the interstate and once on a bumpy dirt shuttle road. I was lucky on the interstate that it didn’t hit another vehicle or cause an accident. |

| Answer: | It actually has the 4 adjustable straps PLUS a bickle that accepts one strap on each side of top if you choose to and have your own strap. You can buy those snaplocks cheap and i make my own up for all sorys of things.I have installed mine in the middle of a 2 person kayak so i have greater weight capacity with a faster kayak as it floats higher so i can go in more sjallow too. I just installed some of those fastener points that the brass clips snap on to so this seat would fit any kayak i think. But if you didnt have attachment points for 5 or 6 dollars you can buy some nice forged stainless ones that wont break like nylon ones. Then you can position it anyehere on any kayak. I has great nack support so no kayak seat nack required to go up against. The straps support it fine. And i am 6'2 and 350 so anyone should easily be supported by the strap mounts as long as you mount them securely or use a piece of plastic or other backing if mounting location is thin. Dont use screws use stainless bolts woth locking nuts on other side with fender washers. I sometimrs buy cheap thin polyethyleme cutting board for nacking and cut strips yo spread forve from my leaning back hard on it. It is awesome and supports my nack like loungimg on a lawn chair. I bought these for all my kayaks. Bit my girlfriend likes a lower back. But i think it is best seat ive ever found. |
