User questions & answers
Question: | Will this rack accommodate a Fat Bike with 4.5" wide tires. Do I need to purchase the cross braces from Yakima or VW and Chevy as we have a VW TiguanR |
Answer: | No it won't accomodate a fat bike unfortunately. I am using ford factory cross bars it will work with I think most aftermarket cross bars |
Question: | Will it fit a Prius V |
Answer: | The ForkLift is compatible with the Prius V with a base rack (Crossbar) system installed. There are no known issues that would prevent installation. Please refer to rack manufacturer specifications for weight load/carrying capacity restrictions. |
Question: | How many SKS lock cores will I need for this rack |
Answer: | Terri,The Front loader will require 2 locks for each bike. 1 will lock the bike to the rack, the other will lock the rack to the vehicle. Thanks,RAck Attack |
Question: | Can you install the frontloader and the fairing together at the same time |
Answer: | not sure what you mean. the unit is one piece which easily clamps to the cross bars. Then very easy to secure the bike. I use this carrier to get a fourth bike on my car (3 on a Thule back rack) and one on top. Works great. If the bike is heavy can be a bit of a bear to get it up on the roof by yourself but otherwise an easy deal. As someone else mentioned, I have to install it "backwards to get proper clearance from the back hatch. |

- CARRY ANY BIKE: DoubleDown 4 is a hanging rack, which allows you to carry any type of bike with traditional frame geometry (bikes with slanted top tubes require TubeTop adapter, sold separately)

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it actually hold 4 four bikes for sure |
Answer: | Sure! I’d just switch out the type of screw. You literally screw two pieces of wood to the wall to then slide the shelf onto. Super easy to change the screw if needed. |
Question: | Would this fit on a 2012 Subaru Outback |
Answer: | I'm not sure. To install brackets have to be screwed into the wall; so if you are able to drill holes in the tile and insert anchors you may be able to mount on tile. |
Question: | Does this rack fit childrens bikes |
Answer: | It would probably depend on how secure it is on your wall. For instance, ours is not very secure because it is attached to a very uneven brick fireplace, so I have pictures and candles on it and it is fine, but it would put a lot of pressure on it if I put anything over 10 lbs. If you have it on a flat and secure fitting, you will know about how much weight you can put on it by pushing down on it with your hands. |
Question: | Is there any way to lock/attach the rack to my hitch to prevent someone from simply unscrewing the bolt and stealing the rack |
Answer: | Hi there, we do not recommend putting a lot of weight on this. Not super heavy things, but it can definitely hold up things like vases, picture frames, decorations, etc. |

Hope this info helps you. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this Yakima PRODUCT |
Answer: | Thank you for your inquiry. To contact us you need to do one of the following: Go to the product listing on Amazon.com and click the seller's name. Click the Ask a question button. Go to Your Orders, find your order in the list, and click Get help with order. We can customize almost any piece in terms of length and color. |
Question: | Is it fast and easy for one person to attach AND remove the extra attachment if you only want to use when occasionally taking 4 bikes |
Answer: | Thank you for your inquiry. The process involves locating your studs in the wall (preferably two if the piece is long enough to span that distance). It involves drilling two holes in the back of the piece to fit over the provided mounting hardware. It requires a level, drill, 1/2" drill bit, a tape measure, a pencil, a screw/drill driver and a stud finder if you have one. For Example: a 54" piece would cover the distance of at least 3 studs. Mark the height of the middle of piece and draw a level line. Mark the middle of where the mantel till go and make a mark on it and a mark on the wall to always keep you centered. Find and mark the studs and screw the provided hardware into a stud an inch or so below your line so the top of the piece still is at or near the desired height. The brackets are wider than a wall stud so the other screw will go into the wall with provided wall anchors and screws. You will then mark on the back of the piece where the holes need to be drilled. We recommend measuring from the center line to each hole and then confirming the distance is correct by measuring the distance between the wall support hardware and making sure it is the distance you have your holes marked for drilling. Once you have done so you can drill the holes using a 1/2" drill bit and the piece should then slide onto the wall hardware. We recommend using screws from the underside where they will be hidden and securing at least one through the piece and into a wall stud to ensure the piece does not move. Thank you again for your question and please feel free to contact us directly with any further questions. |
Question: | Will this work with the older grey base rack ( also 2.0" receiver |
Answer: | The exact size is 183cm so it's exactly 72.05" |
Question: | I need this extension, but our rack is grey - any chance you have the extension in grey or know how we can find this |
Answer: | Hello, The 60'' mantel is around 27-30Lbs. This will need the mantel to be connected to studs for a stronger/safer attachment. We don't suggest to mount it directly to drywall. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it work with a sprinter van and 29in bike tire |
Answer: | I don’t know about the sprinter vans. We have a Suburban and it works great. I set the rack up on an Expedition and the rack was not able to be put in the upright setting with that vehicle, but it still worked fine. I have used this rack to transport mountain bikes of all sizes, from 20” tires to 29” tires. The 29ers fit great. |
Question: | Will this work with a rigid fork mountain bikes |
Answer: | No, this is compatible with suspension-fork bikes only. |
Question: | why doesnt this work for RVs |
Answer: | I believe that Yakima states that because of the extra forces applied to the rack. The amount of RV body that extends past the rear tires causes more bounce and therefore more stress to the rack. That being said my RV is a converted school bus and the back end bounces like crazy. I have put a 1000 miles on the rack with 6 bikes on it, I constantly check it for damage and so far it is holding up exceptionally well. But consider the liability of what you are doing. Depending on the price of the bikes you are putting on there you are looking at risking $3000 dollars upwards of $20,000 if your hauling all your friends top tier trail bikes. |
Question: | Does this bike rack hold 24" wheel kid bike |
Answer: | I use it also with my kids 20 inch and 24 inch Trek mountain bikes with front shocks. I did have trouble hauling a friends cheap 24 inch mountain bike that has narrowing than standard front shocks. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many SKS locks do I need to buy for the rack |
Answer: | You will need a 2 pack of the Yakima SKS lock cores to lock the JayLow's to the crossbar. |
Question: | Any ideas on how to get a 52 lb. kayak up on the Jaylows by yourself |
Answer: | My 16' kayak weighs 56 lbs. I line it up on the side of my car so that the cockpit is between the front and back bars, more or less. I lift the front and "walk" it with my hands until my hands are up over my head, then I lean the front 1/3-1/2 of the kayak against the front jay hook (cockpit out). It helps if the rear end of the boat is in grass or something that doesn't slide. Next I step a couple of steps to the rear of the cockpit and, with one hand grasping the cockpit and the other cradling under the back of the boat, I heave it up onto the rear jayhook. I'm 5'7" (female) and can do this in about 1 minute. I can barely lift the kayak by myself, but doing it 1/2 a boat at a time is super easy. |
Question: | Can i please get a detailed answer on how to stop the whistling that these jaylow carriers make? i have a faring already |
Answer: | Duct tape over holes on bottom will stop the whistling. |
Question: | Will this rack really carry two kayak's? To carry two kayak's do you need additional hardware or straps |
Answer: | We have not used these racks for 2 kayaks, we just bought 2 racks. BUT..... We have 4 kayaks and will try it someday. I can see how this rack will work for two, it just needs to be positioned perfectly vertically, instead of leaning back slightly. You will need another set of straps, preferablly two for around the main body and a bow and stern strap. We really like our Jaylow carriers, they are very easy to install and adjust, and very easy to load one kayak onto. You will need two people to put on the second kayak though, because the second kayak won't have the cradle bracket to hold it in place on the back of the bracket. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Locking skewer for thru axle fork? The regular one is too short |
Answer: | This would include a mounting bracket . You would need to purchase the screws for your proper installation, drywall, brick ect |
Question: | Does sks lock work with thru axle |
Answer: | Either an 1/8” metal drill bit, or use a nail and hammer. It’s sheet metal, so it’s not terribly thick. |
Question: | Will this fit factory crossbars that dont adjust on 2013dodge grand caravan |
Answer: | I don't have them anymore but it's basically a piece of wood that looks almost like quarter round only thicker that you screw to the wall. You then hang the beam on it. Very easy & a beautiful piece. Also sturdy. |
Question: | Will this fit my 2004 Chevy Suburban factory crossbars? Thanks |
Answer: | The flat side is on the bottom and the angled side is on the top. |

Hanging racks tilt or swing out of the way to access your vehicle’s trunk or hatch. They’re great options for carrying multiple bikes (fit up to 5 bikes), but be aware of the type of bike - anything without traditional geometry may need a top tube adapter.
HITCH MOUNT - TRAY RACK
Tray racks can carry virtually any type of bike (and fit up 2 bikes or 4 with an extension). They offer more spacing between bikes to minimize interference and can either tilt or swing (with an adapter) out of the way while loaded.
