| Answer: | For a 40g tank, I would buy at least 2 bags for minimal coverage; 1 bag ended up giving me about 1" deep gravel in my 10g tank (11" wide x 13" long) if I recall correctly. If you want to do a planted aquarium, you'll need at least 3"-4" of substrate, and an unplanted tank will probably need 1"-2". You could always mix the gravel with other substrate too though! I recently mixed this gravel with black sand and some flourite in another aquarium and really like how it looks. It'd probably look great with white sand too. |
