If I were purchasing today, I'd get the unit with the distilled water tank and would have set up an auto fill system. Filling directly to jugs is a pain; we make it work. In the summer we go thru a lot of water, about 3 gallons/day (just the wife and I and we're in our 60's). We're using 3 gallon bottles, 5's are too heavy, and it takes about 6 hours to fill one. With the "auto" system I'd never have to worry about it.

Answer:	I originally used my 5.0 gallon dispenser to accommodate a 75 lb husky and 3 pugs, each weighing about 25 lbs. I do keep mine in the house in the kitchen as my dogs spend most of their time indoors (even the husky!). I found that this size allows for a good amount of water in the tank plus a good amount of ice cubes and it keeps the water pretty cool for a long time. I refresh the tank every day, although there have been times when I've gone 2 days and could have gone longer. But, in order to keep cool, need to add the ice. With having just one dog, you could probably use the 3.5 gal. tank, but for the small price difference and the fact that this thing will last forever, it would probably be better for you to get the 5.0 gal. if you can. The 6.5 gal. would most likely be bigger than you would ever need for just one dog, or even 2 dogs at 100 lbs. each. Hope my answer helps you.

Answer:	Yes absolutely, The dish has a plug in it. You have to turn the red handle to off but keep the lid of the tank on and tightened. The water and dirt particles will drain out. Replace plug and turn the red handle back to the open position. That's it!
