| Answer: | This becomes a math exercise. 1 gallon of water weights ABOUT 8 pounds. It takes 1 Btu to raise that one pound of water by 1 degree F. Also consider that a 250,000 Btu heater actually will only deliver ABOUT 82% of that input Btu because it is not 100% efficient. So, multiply the number of gallons your pool holds by 8. This is the quantity of Btu you require to raise your pool 1 degree F. Example: I have a 12,000 gallon pool which equates to about 96,000 pounds of water. So a 250,000 Btu heater delivering (0.82 x 250,000) 205,000 Btu will raise my pool about 2 degrees in one hour (205,000 divided by 96,000). Also consider that the natural gas line to your home has a certain capacity (in Btu or Therms (100,000 Btu)). |

| Answer: | Our last heat exchanger only lasted 18 months. The previous pool heater we had lasted for years and years. Prepare yourself because the manufacturer is going to blame you for not maintaining a good water balance as the reason that their product is defective. We ended up buying a different pool heater rather than paying to get the heat exchanger replaced and putting more money into a defective product. We were very disappointed with the whole process of getting the manufacturer to honor their warranty. |

| Answer: | It's not necessarily the gallonage of the pool that determines what size heater to go with. So here are things that you need to determine: 1) the size of your gas line (look at it going into the ground by the meter and coming out by the heater), 2) the distance of the gas line from meter to heater, and 3) the size of the gas meter (if your meter is too small, you can contact your gas company to see if they will put in a larger one for you). As far as the size of the heater for your size pool, a 250k BTU heater will heat your pool but it will take much longer than a 400k BTU. If you have a large pool, then choosing a bigger heater is probably better. However, if you mostly use it for an attached spa and just occasionally heat the pool, then 250k would be plenty.
