13 best 6 in 1 pool shocks

A 6-in-1 pool shock is a multi-functional pool treatment product designed to help maintain and clean swimming pools. It is often used in conjunction with other pool maintenance products such as pool clarifiers, enzymes, water testing kits, and cleaning chemicals. Here are the six primary functions of a 6-in-1 pool shock:

  1. Chlorine Booster: One of the main functions of a 6-in-1 pool shock is to increase the chlorine levels in the pool. Chlorine is a crucial chemical for sanitizing and disinfecting the water, preventing the growth of harmful bacteria and algae.

  2. Algaecide: 6-in-1 pool shocks often contain algaecides to combat and prevent the growth of algae in the pool. Algae can make the pool water cloudy and unappealing.

  3. Clarifier: These products can also act as clarifiers, helping to improve water clarity by removing small particles and debris that may be suspended in the water.

  4. Stain and Scale Control: Some 6-in-1 pool shocks include ingredients to help prevent the formation of stains and scales on the pool surfaces, including the walls and floor.

  5. Shock Treatment: As the name suggests, these products can provide a shock treatment to the pool, quickly raising the chlorine levels to address any issues with water quality or contamination.

  6. pH Balancer: Many 6-in-1 pool shocks include pH-balancing agents to help maintain the water's pH level within the ideal range.Proper pH balance is essential for swimmer comfort and the effectiveness of chlorine.

By combining these six functions into one product, 6-in-1 pool shocks offer a convenient and cost-effective solution for pool maintenance. However, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions and use the product in the appropriate quantities to ensure the safety and cleanliness of your pool. Additionally, regular water testing is recommended to monitor and maintain proper water chemistry.

Please note that specific product formulations and features may vary among different brands and manufacturers, so it's essential to choose a 6-in-1 pool shock that suits your pool's needs and follow the recommended usage guidelines for your specific product.

Question: Hi, Does this contain stabilizers? And or copper
Answer: Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool&Spa products. The Shock Xtrablue can be used to open a pool in case there are contaminants that accumulated over the winter time. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.
Question: Is it safe to ise in an inflatable pool without a pump system
Answer: Yes for an indoor or covered spa. If it gets sun you want a stabilized product.
Question: Is this safe for Vinyl Pools
Answer: I had this issue the first time as well. Examine the red lock tab to see how it locks into place by falling into those holes. You need to pull up on that. Thing is, mine had already been pulled up. So instead of concentrating my energy on that I stood up, grabbed the top of the bucket with both hands and turned it left in order to open it. Simply grabbing it from the side with one hand was not enough the first time so you'll need both hands and grab from the top. Have another person hold the red tab up at the same time and it should open easily.
Question: is this ideal to open an above ground pool for the season
Answer: Yes, prices have changed (a lot )specially during summer.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use this instead of clorox shock for small pools? the clorox app recommended the latter, but i can't find it in my area
Answer: I use it in two different vinyl pools. These are not inground but they are common $500 pools and one of them is actually a hot tub. Absolutely zero stains. This product works great. I'm not totally sure but I'm pretty sure the only thing that's going to stay in your pool is if you leave chlorine tablet on the floor. I did exactly that once by mistake and that chlorine tablet left a 2 ft size white mark. So be careful with your chlorine and that's really it.
Question: Do you use this before/after or with the Chlorinating tablets
Answer: Yes. The sauna is (light weight) conveniently easy to fold down/dismantle and store away; when not in use. Fyi.. I have a large bathroom - and utilize my sauna on a daily basis since i purchased it; space is not a problem for me. Hope this helps.
Question: Can you use it on vinyl pools
Answer: This is a Far Infrared Sauna unit. Far infrared is better in many ways than full spectrum ones, and is the form most absorbable by the body. Far infrared are the same ones used in baby incubators in hospitals.
Question: Can I use this in an in ground vinyl lined pool? I am concerned it may damage the vinyl liner
Answer: Yes

User questions & answers

Question: Shock for small pools is hard to find around here can i use cloroxpoolspa vinyl pool shock instead
Answer: No
Question: Does this product bleach out vinyl pool liners
Answer: This is the Clorox shock for small pools this is just the better version in my opinion. I have an index pool and it works fantastic. I use half then wait 24 hrs and test again. Half normally does just fine sometimes I have to add the other half.
Question: Can I use this product with kemtek chlorine tablets I already have
Answer: Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool and Spa products. Chlorinating tablets should be used in order to maintain a 1-4ppm residual in the pool. Our shock products are meant to boost the chlorine level to oxidize material that accumulates over time like oils, greases, algae, bacteria, etc. If you're setting up a pool or are trying to clear cloudy water from over the winter, then you can add the shock before having tablets in the pool to eliminate any contaminates that may have accumulated. However, once the pool is crystal clear, then the shock can be added on a weekly basis (with tablets in the pool) to maintain clarity and to prevent contaminate accumulations. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.
Question: does this product have a seal under the cap when sold new
Answer: Yes this is the only product I use in my above ground pool and works perfect. No discoloration of pool liner

User questions & answers

Question: Do i still need to add additional chlorine to my pool?? Or is using this product once a week sufficient
Answer: It is 53.5% Trichlor, and other ingredients that you may have to use in your spa to maintain it properly. I have used it for a couple of years and works well. I am purchasing for the 3rd time. Most of the time I just add a tablespoon or 1 1/2 to a 425 gallon tub and works fine! You don't need a higher chlorine % if your test strips read properly, if not just add a little more.
Question: Can I use this in a salt water pool? I have a intellichlor ic40. Thanks
Answer: Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool and Spa products. Chemically, the Shock for Small pools and the Vinyl Pool shock are identical and could be used as a substitute. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.

Answer: Hi, We are the manufacturer of Clorox Pool and Spa products. When used according to label directions, this product will not bleach liners. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-800-SOS-POOL.
Question: There are conflicting answers posted for this product, is it 99% dichlor? Or 55% trichlor? Or what? Thanks

HTH 42017 Ultimate 3" Chlorinating Tablets

The hth ultimate 3" chlorinating tablets are an effective swimming pool water sanitizer. They are convenient and easy to use and are formulated to protect against chlorine loss from sunlight, and can be used in feeders. They are designed to dissolve slowly to provide a steady source of available chlorine to control the growth of algae, kill bacteria and destroy organic contaminants.

hth Sanitizers

Your pool stays clean and clear with hth sanitizer products, designed to effectively guard against bacteria, algae and other organisms. We offer two types of chlorine-based sanitizers: stabilized and unstabilized.

The hth Benefit:

These convenient and easy to use hth 3” chlorinating tablets are formulated to protect against chlorine loss in direct sunlight, and can be used in feeders. Add 1 tablet per 10 000 gallons of pool water every week, or as often as needed, to maintain a chlorine residual of 1 - 4ppm.

Application instructions:

Place this product in a feeder, floater or skimmer designed for this product. Use in a new feeder or any device which has previously contained only this product, trichloro-s-triazinetrione. Do Not use in feeders that have been used with other water

treatment products. Do Not add other chemicals to the feeder while this product is present. If placed in the skimmer, run the pump a minimum of

eight hours daily. Do Not throw tablets directly into pool or pool surface damage could occur.

Re-entry into treated swimming pools is prohibited above levels of 4 ppm chlorine due to risk of bodily injury.

Test Your Water

How often you should test and balance your pool can vary based on how often you use it and a number of other variables, but it’s important to remember that, for chlorine and pH, you should usually test your pool two to three times a week. That may sound like a lot, but water balance is vital for your pool’s health and the health of the people who swim in it. When your pool is out of balance, your sanitizers can be less effective, the water can cause irritation to the skin and eyes, and if the water gets imbalanced enough, it can even damage the pool’s surfaces, structure, or equipment.

Shock weekly

In ideal circumstances, shocking your pool just once a week will keep it looking clean and clear, but any heavy rainfall, signs of algae, use by lots of swimmers, or periods of very sunny weather can deplete free chlorine levels, which means an extra dose of hth Shock is needed.Sundown is optimum time to shock your pool because the chlorine can work without fighting the sun's ultraviolet rays and has more time to restore water clarity.

Overstabilization: What is it?

While small levels of CYA (20 – 40 ppm) do serve a purpose in protecting chlorine from sunlight degradation, too much can cause problems. Over-stabilization (> 90 ppm) is the buildup of cyanuric acid (CYA) in swimming pool water resulting from the use of stabilized sanitizers and stabilized shock products. It significantly decreases the effectiveness of chlorine in killing germs, bacteria and algae.

hth Pool Care offers sanitizer and shock products that are non-stabilized. These are calcium hypochlorite (cal-hypo) products, do not contain stabilizer and will not cause over-stabilization. Symptoms of overstabilization:

Green water.

High chlorine reading with algae.

Adding chlorine does not get rid of algae What is the Solution to Overstabilization? If the CYA level is > 90ppm, adjust this by partially draining some water from the pool, refilling with fresh water, balancing the water and switching to hth non-stabilized sanitizers and shocks.

Why Shock?

When to Shock

In ideal circumstances, shocking your pool just once a week will keep it looking clean and clear, but any heavy rainfall, signs of algae, use by lots of swimmers, or periods of very sunny weather can deplete free chlorine levels, which means an extra dose of hth Shock is needed.Sundown is optimum time to shock your pool because the chlorine can work without fighting the sun's ultraviolet rays and has more time to restore water clarity. Luckily, shocking is very easy and we're here to walk you through it.

Follow the 4 Steps

Step 1 Make sure your pH level is between 7.2-7.6. Adjust accordingly if needed. Also make sure your pump is running.

Step 2 Snip the corner off the shock product you've chosen for your pool and sprinkle it along the deepest end of the water.

Step 3 If any granules settle at the bottom, use a brush to help disperse them evenly.

Step 4 Finally, wait until your free available chlorine levels are between 1 and 4 ppm (parts per million) before using your pool.

  • Shows results in 24 hours
  • Available in a 1lb size
  • Sold in a 6 pack

User questions & answers

Question: Why can I not return this item
Answer: More importantly is knowing the available chlorine (AC) which is 54%. There are other shocks with 65% or 70% AC. the higher the AC level the more disinfectant is going into your pool
Question: Can I use this for a kiddie inflatable pool
Answer: The volume of a cylinder is pi x r^2 x h. If the diameter of a round pool is 14 feet, the radius (r) is 7 feet, and 7 squared is 49. Pi is approximately 3.1416. The height (h) is 42 inches, or 3.5 feet. That gives us 3.1416 x 49 x 3.5, or a little less than 539 cubic feet. There are approximately 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot, so filled to the brim, your pool would hold approximately 4030 gallons. If you fill your pool to 90 percent capacity, you have about 3600 gallons.
Question: What percentage is the calcium hypochlorite
Answer: Yes. You should be able to use it in your above ground pool. You will need to find out how many gallons your pool is holding to determine how much to use. One bag treats 10,000 gallons. Our pool is saltwater, so we only really use this for shock, not as a maintainer of chlorine. It works very well, and we can usually get almost a whole summer out of one box of 5.
Question: What is the calium hypochlorite percentage
Answer: Don't buy .... These are 1lb bags... I was totally disappointed and felt this was a rip off... You can buy an entire box for approximately $22.00 at KMART and not pay any shipping/handling...
