14 best roach baits
Roach baits are pest control products specifically designed to attract and eliminate cockroaches, which are common household pests. These baits are widely used in homes, commercial spaces, and outdoor areas to manage roach infestations effectively. Here's what you need to know about roach baits:
Purpose: Roach baits are formulated to attract cockroaches, primarily through the use of bait ingredients that mimic the roaches' preferred food sources. Once attracted, the roaches consume the bait, which contains insecticides that target and kill them.
Types of Roach Baits:
- Gel Baits: Gel baits are a popular choice for roach control. They come in syringe-like applicators and can be easily applied in cracks, crevices, and other hiding spots where roaches are active.
- Bait Stations: Bait stations are plastic or cardboard containers filled with bait. They are strategically placed in areas with roach activity and provide a secure location for roaches to feed on the bait.
Attractants: Roach baits often contain attractants that mimic the scent of food or pheromones that lure roaches. These attractants vary depending on the brand and formulation.
Insecticides: The active ingredients in roach baits are typically slow-acting insecticides that allow the roaches to return to their hiding spots before succumbing to the effects. This helps in spreading the poison to other roaches in the colony, leading to colony-wide eradication.
Placement: Effective placement of roach baits is crucial. They should be positioned in areas where roaches are known to frequent, such as along baseboards, under sinks, in cabinets, and near trash bins. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for placement.
Safety Precautions: Roach baits should be used with care, especially in homes with pets and children. Keep them out of reach of pets and kids and follow safety guidelines provided on the product labels.
Effectiveness: Roach baits are generally effective at reducing roach populations when used correctly. However, they may take some time to achieve complete control, as they rely on the roaches' feeding habits and their ability to carry the poison back to the colony.
Maintenance: Regularly inspect and replace roach baits as needed. Roaches can deplete the bait, so it's essential to keep a consistent supply in areas of infestation.
Resistant Roaches: In some cases, roaches may develop resistance to certain types of baits and insecticides. Rotating between different brands and formulations can help address this issue.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Roach baits are often used as part of an IPM approach, which includes sanitation, sealing entry points, and reducing food and water sources to prevent future infestations.
Roach baits can be an effective tool in managing roach problems, but they should be used in conjunction with other pest control measures for the best results. If you have a severe infestation or are unsure about how to use roach baits, it's advisable to seek professional pest control services for a thorough assessment and treatment plan.

Question: | Can/should I put these behind the kick plate under my cabinets |
Answer: | Hello, Thank you for your question. Our tablets will absolutely work on oriental roaches. Spiders, however, are a different story. I would recommend our 24oz Spider Killer liquid spray specifically for spiders or our Spider Glue Traps. Unfortunately, they are not attracted to the tablets. Best, John |
Question: | If I have a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom kind of large home... will this be enough? or should I buy 2 packs |
Answer: | This listing says 4oz with 145 tablets, yet the description says ."at least 95 tablets",Sold by + shipped by AMAZON. There is another seller(not amazon but shipped by amazon) for a few cents more with a 6oz box with 145 tablets. Can anyone explain this enigma? |
Question: | What do we mean by "small" roaches? As is 1 in, 1/2 in or even smaller than that? The few I am seeing are no more than 1 inch in length. Will it work |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does the bait evaporate? It seems all my baits are reducing at same rate, which makes me think evaporation...what is rate of evaporation |
Answer: | : I dont think it is Counterfeit. I just purchased this and I got results immediately. I only used a little bit of 1 tube on Monday night and Tuesday morning I saw dead or almost dead bugs all over my kitchen. More then I thought were even present. On Tuesday I saw more dead bugs and even less on Wed. I saw 1 tiny one on Wed, and today I have not seen any so far. I do know that I watched plenty of videos on Youtube about different products and several on this product and decided to go with this. I would recommend based on my experience. I would say go to Youtube and see those reviews and how to apply it. I learned quite a bit and followed those instructions. I also think that some people may not see results that they want because they dont apply it again for the babies that will be born to eat. If the bugs that are already alive eat all of the bait then there is not any left for the born babies that come later that are protected in the sac thing. My plan is to reapply every 7 days for a month. This particular one does not have the growth regulator in it so that is why I will reapply for any babies. So I would say buy it. Look at Youtube first to see the reviews and how they say to apply it. You have to use small little drops and not spread it big or in a line. If you do bugs tend to avoid it according to the exterminator guy on Youtube. if it does not work for you return it and try the other brand that starts with a V. Advion got better reviews though but the 1 with that starts with V does have the growth regulator. This is only the first week. I live in a condo and have never had bugs before until recently so I will come back and update by review to see how it is working but so far I recommend this company and this vendor. This is long but I hope this helps. |
Question: | can they be set at different angles? #2 What about the guarantee? Hot Shot bug bombs were worthless, did nothing to the roaches, none dead |
Answer: | Works for All Roach species. Depends what you mean by Waterbug. If you are taking about the bugs on water then no. |
Question: | i am pretty disgusted" with the directions.....i want to use this and do you take it out of the black container? it falls out when you pull the tab |
Answer: | Not anymore . Syngenta now has to authorize all sellers of their products . Amazon blocks all sellers that are not authorized by Syngenta . |
Question: | They seem to dry out very quickly, in a matter of weeks. How long are these things supposed to last |
Answer: | It's questionable if it's effective for large American cockroaches, which is what I have. It's not that it wouldn't kill them; it's that American cockroaches live outside and occasionally wander in in search of food. The bait dries up and gets hard pretty quickly before they even have a chance of eating it. I can't tell if any of the bait I've put down has been touched. And it's a pain to have to keep applying fresh bait, which then dries up overnight. I think the bait stations by Combat for large roaches might be a better option. I've had success, albeit temporarily, with those in the past. |

Question: | most comments say counterfeit ..is that true |
Answer: | I put it on the ridges of the insides of the kitchen drawers (the piece that makes them slide in and out), and underneath of my refrigerator and stove. The little applicator makes it so easy, and you never have to touch anything (which is great!) I put this down after seeing one bug a couple of months ago, and I’ve not seen another one. I don’t plan on wiping the paste up anytime soon at all, but when I do clean it away, it will be after at least a solid year and then I’ll reapply more. This product works amazingly well! And the sticky bait can be put in places that are totally out-of-the-way. I’m planning to wait one more month before removing the black plastic baits and washing the insides of my kitchen drawers and all utensils (again). But I’ll still leave the black plastic baits under the kitchen sink. That will be around 90 days or so for me, before I even move any of the originally placed baits at all. This stuff really works! If you do wipe it off, and you still do not see any bugs, please come back and let us know how long you actually ended up leaving it down for. I’ve worked in apt leasing and seen terribly infested apartments treated by a professional only one time, and then maintained with Combat. It is the only product I know of that really does work! :-) |
Question: | Does this product kill waterbugs |
Answer: | Hi there, I wouldn't recommend putting the cases on counters but would recommend to put where the sink cupboard is and warm places like hot water cupboards and under fridge/freezer, or places out of reach. The paste on the combat didn't stick well when I used but I had already bought Advion Syngenta Gel Bait as it had high reviews. I had put this around the counter and door ways and under the cupboards (places where you don't usually wipe clean often) Depending how bad it is I backed it up with borax and lightly powder areas to keep the critters out. The reason why I bought all these products as follows was because I had professionals in and the roaches kept coming back. The steps and items I used are as follows:1. Bed bug and flea Spray - I used this first, empty all cupboards and wipe clean, Use a mask as the spray is highly potent and old lace up shoes and gloves, then spray inside and under fridges, this draws them out from hiding and kills the roaches on contact. After a couple of hours, sweep and mop clean all areas (try to avoid using the vacuum, unless you have an old one to chuck out)and dispose away from house. 2. Then I used the borax and lightly powdered areas ie, under fridges and ovens, hot water cupboards, and on high sills, as this dehydrates them on contact.3. Advion Syngenta Gel Bait - was a breeze to use, the gel was pasted on the counter but more on the wall where under the tiles unseen. Also under and around cupboards and the kitchen door way areas.4. Lastly planting bait traps, hot water cupboard, under the fridge/freezer, behind the oven, under the sink etc.. I disposed of these after a few months.I used all of these products before christmas 2015, and all roaches are still gone. I still have plenty of gel, borax and bed bug and flea spray but keep it just in-case. Hope this helps :) |
Question: | How do you make sure you’re not getting the fake knock off that doesn’t work? Sometimes Amazon sellers send a fake version of this |
Answer: | Combat Max Defense System Brand, Small Roach Killing Bait and Gel is geared to smaller roaches like German roaches. For larger roaches like American and Oriental, we recommend Combat Max for Large Roaches for bait stations and Combat Max Roach Killing Gel for those cracks and crevices that crawling bugs hide. |
Question: | Does this also kill large American cockroaches |
Answer: | There's no definite time in terms of hours or minutes, but there is major Death each morning you check, especially the first week. The first day I put 4 of the circles surrounding the bottom of my fridge and the next morning there was like 100 or so dead under there and 100 or so under the sink. I never thought there was this many as I see maybe 3 roaming in a day so it was shocking. There were also a lot of "dust" from all the fallen legs/wings/parts of the dead roaches. Then after 7 days I only saw 20 adult roaches dead there. The third week I saw maybe 3. Now I see 1 or none after a month so I know the nest was destroyed. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long can you leave the gel on the cracks before needing to clean/wipe it away |
Answer: | If you have pets you do not treat their food or water. You put Advion where roaches are most likely to travel. Put it where they poop also. I put it under the fridge and the stove, in cracks and crevices where they hide. |
Question: | Can you use this on kitchen counters |
Answer: | No, the product is excellent as long as is fresh. I purchase a 4 tube pk. in January of 2019 and I was not able to eradicate the problem because of the leftover gel wouldn't work, not even 3 months later. Make sure is fresh stock. I have to buy again and I am looking between sellers to see if one put expiration dates. The product is really good works well it is just the shelf life is short. |
Question: | Are the disk openings large enough for large cockroaches (American and/or Oriental species |
Answer: | Currently this product is 0.6% indoxacarb and the Advion Ant Gel is only at 0.05% indoxacarb. This has 12 times more indoxacarb than the ant product. If the ants find this palatable they will eat it. Some ants like carbohydrates like roaches do, so they they will probably eat this. I would not put the weaker ant stuff out with a roach infestation, because it will not kill them and instead they will get more resistant to indoxacarb. |
Question: | How long until roaches die |
Answer: | I reapply once every year usually. But I’ve been known to do every six months as well. It all depends on how bad you have it. |

Question: | What size is each single station |
Answer: | Not very big but they work better than i expected. |
Question: | The product description says it's for large roaches while the picture says it's for small ones. Which one is true |
Answer: | The ones I got (several) say on the box Small) but what is small? And for that matter what are large? Looking inside each small trap 2" X 2" X 3/8 tall, there are 4 rectangle holes where the roaches go in and get poison to take back to the nest. Each rectangle hole is 1/4 inch wide by 1/8 inch tall. |
Question: | Is it safe to put this in my laundry room where it can get really humid and moist |
Answer: | yes, I use them in my laundry rooms and bathrooms, inside the area where the pipes come into the room. They work. If you have larger roaches, you will need to get the Combat Roach motel. |
Question: | Do you see dead bugs with this or do they eat it and take it to their nest |
Answer: | They take it to their nest, and the entire nest dies over time. You won't normally see any dead bugs around this bait. |

Question: | Why wont it ship to Floral park NY |
Answer: | Actually it really doesn't matter, if you put it under the kick plate of the cabinet or not. ....put it where you think roaches stays a lot or where you see them most. I put mine under the sink, cupboards, corners and near the ovens....I'll suggest to get the gel combat with it to get the maximum protection. ...my problem with roaches is history and I feel safe now that they're not around in terms of getting diseases cause by them. And if I see them, they're dead.....hope this help because I know how it feels to have roaches around. Good luck! |
Question: | once opened does it dry out in the syringe |
Answer: | I also live in a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment and I've been using the single pack of 16 pieces for the past several years with success.I strategically place the units on all walls that are adjacent to other units. |
Question: | Alright so it's gel, what do i do with it? put spots around the house and they eat it |
Answer: | That's about the size the ones I was dealing with were. I believe they were German roaches, if that helps. Just make sure you use the 12-month ones, the other kinds don't work. I think they probably use stronger stuff in the 12-month ones. |
Question: | After the soft gel is applied it hardens overnight .... Is the gel just as effective once it hardens... thanks |
Answer: | The first question is whether your cat can ingest the "poison". The bait stations are little plastic containers. They have small openings that the roaches go through to get to the bait. I doubt a cat could get its tongue through such a small opening. But they could possibly chew through the plastic container. The second question is if the car did eat the bait, would it harm them? The active ingredient is Fipronil. This is The primary ingredient in many flea treatment products for pets. So dogs and cats apparently tolerate Fipronil well. Fipronil is the active ingredient of this product and is only 1/200 of the bait so the amount contained is very small.given that it is difficult to get at, the amount is very small and Fipronil is already used on cats. .. this world seem to be pet safe. But ultimately you need to make that decision. I would ask your vet about whether your cat could be harmed if they ingested Fipronil from a roach bait trap.i hope this info is helpful. I used peteducation.com and parasitepedia.net as resources - good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many traps come in this box |
Answer: | No, but don't let that be a major concern. It has been my experience the roaches will go to the bait. Maybe they can smell it or something. If you are really concerned, put some of that tape that has two sticky sides on the bottom of the bait. We put ours in drawers, under appliances and behind furniture. We especially targeted the kitchen and baths. You will also have to keep your grass short otherwise the roaches can hide there. Also, keep all leaves and other debris swept from all outside walls of your home. Be especially careful about spilled water and food crumbs.Other than that, check the bates every week. If it is getting empty, replace it. They sent us a lot of the bates.Good luck.Yvonne |
Question: | Do you have to inject bait from a syringe into the product |
Answer: | I had the same experience with these roach bait arenas from advion, completely ineffective. What worked wonders for me was the combat roach bait traps that kills the nest. the only roaches I've seen after putting down the combat roach traps are dead ones. Problem solved. |
Question: | Does it work on ants |
Answer: | My renters have lived in the house for over a year with approx 72 of these in the home in that time. No complaints. Just make sure you follow the instructions for safety and placement. |
Question: | Does the bait in the traps become ineffective after a while? I bought some a while ago and there’s still poison in them |
Answer: | I have not used this product, but I did use the syringe version of Advion Roach Gel and it worked amazingly for large flying roaches. The results lasted several years. If in doubt about the size of the opening, there is another option. |

Question: | This does not work for us at all. we purchased advion syngenta cockroach tubes version, it works wonders. did we do something wrong |
Answer: | Medium is fairly universal. I have all 3 sizes. If you have moles stay close to the surface I used small successfully. If huge mounds and potential mature mole I have adjusted to large. |
Question: | Are this baits safe to put all over the house wile we are in the house |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work on the little brown roaches that you find in the south |
Answer: | If they are house centipedes, they are beneficial and don't sting. Best to keep them around as they eat bad bugs. If you don't want them in your house, keep your house dry. I keep my centipedes s d even give them water to drink. They eat spiders and then you don't need to be cleaning up spider webs here and there. |
Question: | Does this come with bait already inside |
Answer: | 1 Lbs. in each bottle. |

TERRO Multi-Surface Roach Baits
Do you have a roach problem, but just can’t seem to find the perfect spot to place your bait? With TERRO Multi-Surface Roach Baits, you can place them almost anywhere! The unique, multi-surface application allows you to lay them flat or adhere them to surfaces around your home. Simply use the included adhesive strips to place the ready-to-use bait stations on walls, under cabinets and a variety of other locations where they won’t be in the way. Use the see-thru window to monitor bait levels so you know when it’s time to put out a new one.
Attracts and Kills Roaches
The paste found inside the bait station is made up of a protein-based bait that attracts and kills roaches. This unique bait formula is designed to attract the target pest, so you may initially see more insects as they discover the bait station. As the active ingredient takes its toll, populations will decrease. In addition, there are four entry points to increase the effectiveness.
How to Use Multi-Surface Roach Bait
TERRO Multi-Surface Roach Baits are very easy to use. Before placing the bait stations, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting them elsewhere.
- For adhesive applications, apply removable adhesive strip to bottom of bait station. Remove remaining printed strip paper backing. For non-adhesive applications, skip to step 2.
- Apply/place bait stations near where roaches are present. For adhesive applications, press and hold bait station firmly against surface for 10 seconds to ensure proper adhesion.
- Place additional bait stations anywhere roaches are present. Heavily infested areas may require additional bait stations.
- Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait stations. Replace when bait is depleted and continue until roaches are controlled.

User questions & answers
Question: | How is this compared to combat max gel |
Answer: | It is still good for 1 year after applying. If it's not eaten by then you can remove it. But it lasts a year once applied. Inside the tube it lasts 5 years if stored correctly. But no it does not disappear unless its eaten. |
Question: | does it work as well as Advion or better |
Answer: | Cockroaches are cockroaches! I don’t know the difference between Turkestan cockroaches any other but this product works! Be patient! Follow the directions and they will die! This might sound nasty but don’t clean up the dead ones. They eat each other and the poison kills the live ones. 30 days and you won’t see any. You’ll know it’s working because they won’t run away when they see you. They become disoriented and die. |
Question: | I have never used this before so do you HAVE to use a plunger to get the product our of the tubes? One review said their order did not include the advertised plunger so the product was useless until they could order a plunger. Please advise |
Answer: | Yes. When you take the cap off, they have included in a small sealed bag, mine had two of them needle like applicators, I figured cause two tubes come with it. And it has one plunger. You screw the needle like ends on simply and then squirt away. :-) A helpful tip is, when moving from one spot to another, pull back on the plunger or it'll keep letting it come out and drip cause the pressure., just pull back and it won't make a mess. :-) |
Question: | What is the difference between this and Vendetta Plus |
Answer: | At first we noticed a few dead ones, it took a few days (guessing it's from ones lingering around). Then after about a month, we had realized we hadn't seen any lives one in a while. So far this year, I live in South Louisiana so the tree roached that show up are pretty active and large, plus we have had a lot of rain and we have hardly seen any maybe 4 or 5. I am about to re-applicate just to make sure we don't start seeing an influx of them coming out. |
