12 best advance ant baits

Advanced ant baits are pest control products designed to target and eliminate ant infestations. These baits are formulated with active ingredients that attract ants, and once consumed, they work to disrupt the ant colony, eventually leading to its elimination. Here are some key points about advanced ant baits:

  1. Attractant Formulation:

    • Ingredients: Advanced ant baits contain specific ingredients that are attractive to ants. These ingredients are often combined with a slow-acting toxin to ensure the bait is carried back to the ant colony.
  2. Mode of Action:

    • Slow-Acting Toxins: The active ingredients in the bait are typically slow-acting. This is intentional to allow worker ants to carry the bait back to the colony, where it is shared with other members, including the queen.
    • Colony Elimination: The objective is to eliminate the entire ant colony, including the queen. This is a more effective approach compared to targeting individual ants.
  3. Types of Baits:

    • Gel Baits: Some advanced ant baits come in the form of gels. These are applied in specific locations where ants are active, and they attract ants seeking food.
    • Bait Stations: Bait stations are containers with the ant bait inside. These can be placed strategically to attract ants while protecting the bait from environmental factors.
  4. Targeted Species:

    • Ant Species: Different ant species may respond to different types of baits. Advanced ant baits may be formulated to target specific species commonly found in homes and gardens.
  5. Indoor and Outdoor Use:

    • Versatility: Advanced ant baits can often be used both indoors and outdoors, making them suitable for addressing ant infestations in various settings.
  6. Application Tips:

    • Strategic Placement: Placing baits in areas where ants are actively foraging is essential for effectiveness.
    • Avoid Disruption: It's important not to disturb foraging ants while they are taking the bait back to the colony.
  7. Effectiveness and Time Frame:

    • Patience Required: Results may not be immediate, as the objective is to allow the bait to be distributed within the colony over time.
    • Effectiveness: Advanced ant baits are generally considered effective when used according to the instructions provided.
  8. Caution and Safety:

    • Follow Instructions: Adhering to the recommended application rates and safety guidelines is crucial for effective and safe use.
    • Keep Out of Reach: Ensure that ant baits are kept out of reach of children and pets.

When dealing with pest control, including ants, it's important to choose products that are appropriate for the specific pest species and follow application instructions carefully. If ant infestations persist, seeking professional pest control advice may be necessary.

User questions & answers

Question: I have the colony under the kitchen cabinet on top of the refrigerator where do I apply the bait? I am desperate
Answer: I used it in small amounts all around, not in a perimeter line. I still have some left. I guess you can make 5 inches lines all around or something similar. Good luck.
Question: what is the shelf life of this product
Answer: They wouldn't carry it away from the nest. They would take it to the nest. Otherwise they wouldn't touch it.
Question: Barlett Tree service suggested this product to pour on the ground around a tree to kill carpenter ants in the tree. Do you think this would work
Answer: It is Protein. It is highly recommended to also use Maxforce FC Carpenter Bait Gel which is a sugar bait. You should always give ants a choice as they may be in the mood for either a protein (granule) or a sugar (gel) bait.
Question: Is this a sweet bait? Protein? Fat? All
Answer: Yes it can be applied inside and outside, sunlight not an issue, should get picked up pretty quickly, but yes easy to clean, do not over apply.

User questions & answers

Question: I used to always use ascend fire ant bait. Since ascend is no longer in production, how does this stack up to it
Answer: If the colony appears to be under the kitchen cabinet over the refrigerator, that means it's spreading out fairly rapidly through the wooden cabinets. Not good news!! Apply the bait liberally all over that cabinet and look for other areas in adjacent cabinets where you can see sawdust; that 'sawdust' is caused by carpenter ants, so put the bait near that source too. The bait works fairly quickly -- just keep it away from where children and pets can eat it. Good luck!!
Question: I have small ants that attack my precious food items such as cereals and rice in my kitchen. Will this formula work its magic in my situation
Answer: 3 to 5 years if stored properly
Question: what is the difference between Advance and Advance 375-A carpenter ant poison
Answer: It may help, if the ants take the bait. Apparently Carpenter ants are picky eaters, sometimes they will take this bait, but most times not. IMHO. Also, if this bait is left outside, it seems to spoil after one or 2 days. If it rains, it's ruined. Tried this bait on my screened in porch and at first it seemed to be working. Couple nights pass and I noticed the ants were by passing the bait I had put out 2 nights before. I added some 'fresh' bait away from the old and they did start to take it. So I started putting out fresh bait every nite. Then the ants just wouldn't take it anymore. I eventually found that nest and destroyed it. The porch ants are gone. I must have another nest somewhere because I will still see an occasional ant in my kitchen.Trimming a tree last week I noticed some carpenter in it. From what I have researched, I may try a product with fipronil in it. There are two products that supposedly work well, Termidor SC and Taurus SC. The instructions for both suggest spraying a barrier around the house and on the trunk of suspected trees. Good luck!
Question: what is the difference between 375-A and 375-A 669578 Advance carpenter ant bait
Answer: Not a sweet bait. For that you would need the gel (comes in a tube applicator with plunger). The sweet gel needs only a drop here and there near the edge of their travel path and is very effective, if they are needing sweet. The granular works quite well when they need the protein/fat. It's a good idea to keep both on hand. The granular contains abemectin, which I have read is very low toxicity for people and animals.

Advance

Product description

DESCRIPTION: Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is specially formulated to kill carpenter ants. Advance can be used indoors and outdoors to control the ant population. This carpenter ant bait formulation provides for the carpenter ant's dietary needs while using the delayed-action insecticide Abamectin. This product works well when used in combination with a bait gel such as Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel. USE: Advance Carpenter Ant Bait can be used outdoors as a broadcast application around and close to the perimeter of the structure (8oz. per 1/2 acre), or on the interior inside wall voids or in areas where ants forage. Do not use in areas that have been treated with insecticides or sprays. This will cause the bait to be unattractive to the ants. Always read the label! Abamectin B1 is a GABA inhibitor that interferes with the normal functioning of an insect's nervous system and begins affecting ant populations within 24 hours. This type of insecticide allows the ants time to take the bait back to the nest where it is distributed throughout the colony. Reproduction of the colony halts once the queens have been eliminated and the workers, who carried the bait, perish. Instructions: ADVANCE Carpenter Ant Bait is a ready-to-use product for use in controlling numerous ants both indoors and outdoors. This bait formulation combines a mixture of foods and the delayed action insecticide, Abamectin. This insecticide acts to reduce the population of worker ants and can cause an immediate halt in egg production resulting in colony elimination. Avoid use of other insecticides or sprays on or near ADVANCE. OUTDOORS BROADCAST APPLICATION: Use this product at a rate of 1 lb. per acre. Apply the product as uniformly as possible. User questions & answers

Question: What’s the differences between this one and the 375a
Answer: I used to also use ascend and now I use this .. works the same .
Question: Who is the manufacturer? Is it Whitmire Micro-Gen Research Laboratories Inc
Answer: I'd give it a try! It worked for my situation, and I don't know why it wouldn't work for you, too!Sprinkle it around (near) where the ants are (not to contaminate the food) and seal all your food items... as in ziplock bags.A small amount of food can be used for bait. Keep pets away.
Question: Which ant killer is the best
Answer: I am uncertain.... I use this in Texas on fire ant beds and it works great. Sprinkle a little on the mound , walk away , and the mound goes dead in a few days. Once in a while I have to do a second treatment.
Question: Does this work on Forlieus ants
Answer: Not certain. Could be the size of the bottle. The formula is 375-A. Works great on carpenter ants. But you have to be a little patient with it.

Bayer 10072 Max Force Fleet Ant Gel

Bayer

Based on 488 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Maxforce Fleet contains the active ingredient Fipronil, for fast and effective control of ants in 3-5 days. The speed of Fipronil is formulated for ants trophallaxis, which is slow enough for foraging ants to return to the colony to feed the bait to larvae and the queen so entire colony is killed in a domino effect. The gel is a moist, carbohydrate-rich gel to enhanced the bait's attractiveness to target ants and enable it to stay where it is applied-even through vertical applications. It offers broad-spectrum control on carpenter, argentine, pharaoh, pavement, honey, acrobat, odorous house, thief, big-headed, cornfield and field ants. It can be applied indoors and outdoors in commercial, industrial and residential areas. Super attractive bait that works on hard to kill ants and has better formulation. This product comes in a box with 4 reservoirs. Application within food/feed areas of food/feed handling establishments is limited to crack and crevice treatment only. Apply with syringe applicator or bait injector directly into cracks and crevices. Place applicator tip into cracks and crevices and where ants may travel. Apply gel (up to 1 gram) per spot. Apply gel in spots in cracks and crevices. For best results, place many spots or dabs of gel where you see ants foraging and entering the structure. Place the bait as follows: Gel can be placed in cracks, crevices, corners and any out of the way place, such as under and behind kitchen appliances, along baseboards, under sinks, in pantry, around pipes and water heater, window and door frames, and in the garage, attic, or crawl space. Do not treat food preparation surfaces.

  • Kills Carpenter Ants, Argentine, Pharaoh, Pavement, Honey, Acrobat, Odorous House, Thief, Big-headed, Cornfield, and Field Ants
  • Fast acting - Colony elimination in as little as 3-5 days
  • Thick gel bait is effective even when applied to vertical surfaces
  • Contains Fipronil - Works slowly enough for foraging ants to get back to the colony to feed the queen and larvae
  • Ants die from "domino effect" after being fed, groomed or touched by infected foraging ants

User questions & answers

Question: why are there two types of tips for the syringe? which is best for outside application
Answer: Size of the granules.
Question: How do you put this product out so my cat won't get it
Answer: used to be .. BASF bought them years ago .
Question: There are two types of tips for the syringe, metal and plastic. Why? which is best for outdoor use
Answer: This ant killer is great because it wipes out the whole nest - not just the ants you actually see. Ant workers carry the granules back to the nest where the other ants will eat it and die. After a week or so you should see a major difference in ant activity until eventually you will see no activity at all because they are all dead.
Question: Are there four tubes in this package
Answer: I only used it on carpenter ants and I could not get the ants to eat or carry it back to the nest. I ended up using another ant poison.

User questions & answers

Question: Why is the pricing so weird? It's actually 2x more in bulk! Did someone make a mistake? Sorry for the rhetorical question, silly vendor person
Answer: It has to do with who the actual "seller" is. If you select a quantity of "1", in this case, it is "sold and fulfilled" by Amazon. If you select a quantity of "2" it is "sold" by another company while still being "fulfilled" by Amazon. Yes, both quantities are, as of this writing, "fulfilled" by Amazon but that just tells you that Amazon stores, packages, and ships both items(1 and 2 packs) even though there are, in reality, two different "sellers". If you click back and forth on the quantity selector you'll see the "sold by" name change. Look just under the price after you switch. The seller of the 2 pack sets the price whereas the seller of the 1 pack(Amazon) sets its own price. I'm sure Amazon buys the 1 pack in very large quantities and, therefore, can get a bigger discount, per piece, than the other "seller" can get, per piece, for the 2-pack.
Question: How safe is this product in the kitchen? We have a few ants crawling around our kitchen sink and would like to place one of these bait stations on our kitchen counter. Bad idea? Thanks
Answer: This is a generally safe product according to my research. Make sure to read the packaging and follow direction. (FOR INDOOR USE READ THE FOLLOWING) One lesson I learned the hard way: the sugary syrup is irresistible to ants, even though it is laced with poison. This means when you use Tarro, you're actually providing access to free food! The poison will work on the ants and it takes about 18-24 hours to kill them... but as you wait after 24 hours, Tarro syrup will attract other thriving colonies into your home. They'll follow the same rich trails laid behind by the previous colony and even scavenge on the carcases of the previously fallen colony. This cycle will continue, attracting ants from far away reaches and allowing them to setup massive colonies within your home. This is especially true with Argentine ants (available throughout the world), which form massive colonies with multiple queens - a trait unique to this type of ant, whereas others will battle for territory. So the lesson learned is simple... once the initial 1 or 2 swarms die down, remove all baits and all forms of food from open spaces in your home; patch up all openings in walls, baseboards, cracks around windows, etc; apply perimeter pesticide around your home; and look for signs of wandering ants in the next week. If you see more ants then you missed an opening and already have an established colony in your wall.... repeat!! Just don't leave out Tarro and keep replenishing, especially in the case of Argentine ants.
Question: Is this safe to have around pets? I have a curious cat
Answer: I'd say no. My cat knocked one of these over once and licked the syrup. She was fine but it wasn't a fun afternoon (trip to the vet, etc.). Terro sells a version of this that encloses the bait in plastic and has sticky squares to attach them to the floor, counter, or other surfaces. I use those instead now.
Question: I have a baby in the house and I would like to use this product to kill ants in my house. Any precautions you suggest before I use this product
Answer: The ant trails at my house sometimes go from the floor to the ceiling. I turn the bait so that the liquid will not run out and use Scotch tape to tape it to the wall next to the ant trail. I tape the bait high enough that babies and grand children cannot get to it. It usually takes two days for the ants to disappear. Then three days after they disappear, they return to the trap. Another two days and they disappear again. The second time they disappear is usually the last time I see them at that location.

TERRO Liquid Ant Baits

Ants can be a problem anywhere – in the home, at work and everywhere in between. To kill common household ants, place TERRO Liquid Ant Baits in areas where they attract foraging ants that take the bait back to the nest. As the bait circulates through the colony, it kills the ants you see and the ones you don’t. The new and improved snap-off tab makes the stations easy to use. To open the bait, hold the station vertically and twist the tab. This opens up the station and allows ants to access the bait. Place the entire station on a flat surface, keeping the ant bait inside the station. Plus, the closed bait stations prevent the bait from drying out to provide the ants with a continuous supply of liquid, day and night. Note: complete control may take up to two weeks.

How Liquid Ant Bait Works

Since this is a bait, initially you will see more ants – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. Why? As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet, sugary liquid inside the bait stations. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants in the beginning.

Meanwhile, the active ingredient, Borax, is slowly interfering with the ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing it, but leaving enough time for the ant to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that foraging ants can make several trips to the bait. The communal nature of an ant colony allows the bait to be spread to hundreds, if not thousands, of individual ants.

How to Use Liquid Ant Baits

TERRO Liquid Ant Baits are very easy to use. Before placing the bait stations, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting ants elsewhere. Do not place bait where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the bait stations.

  1. Hold the bait station firmly with bait pack tab facing up. Break off the tab being careful not to spill the bait.
  2. Place the bait station label side up on a flat surface near signs of ants. Place additional bait stations anywhere they may enter your home. For best results, use all bait stations to ensure a sufficient supply for the ants.
  3. Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait stations. Replace when bait is depleted. Complete control may take up to two weeks.
  4. Once ants are controlled, replace the baits every 3 months to keep them from returning.

Question: How do i open the trap
Answer: I'm not exactly sure, but I only used about 1/8 to 1/4 of the bottle to solve my problem. So, I would guess there would be enough to do a pretty large area.
Question: does it contain Hydramethylnon
Answer: Advance 375a is great for ants and their nests. Granules best for outside. What it does is the ants take the granules back to the nest and that kills the queen ant. Without her the nest is destroyed. This product is used by Anderson Pest Control. Best product ever. For in house I would use 2-3 inch lengths of Advion Ant Bait Gel also used by Anderson. Same principle as granules for ants.
