Answer:	Dear Ms. Benson,Usually a garden trowel has what I think of as a "traditional" shovel shape, and is held in one hand. A spade (at least the ones I've used) has a full-sized handle (meaning if the blade is resting on the ground the handle comes up to a height somewhere between your belly and chest) and rather than coming to a point - the end of the blade is straight (square).
