8 best pondmaster uv sterilizers
Pondmaster UV sterilizers are specialized equipment designed for use in water gardens and ponds. These devices play a crucial role in maintaining water quality and clarity by utilizing ultraviolet (UV) light to control algae growth and eliminate harmful microorganisms. Here's what you should know about Pondmaster UV sterilizers and their relevance to water treatment, outdoor decor, and patio lawn garden maintenance:
Function: Pondmaster UV sterilizers work by exposing the pond water to ultraviolet light. The UV radiation effectively sterilizes and kills algae cells, bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms present in the water. This helps in preventing the overgrowth of algae and maintaining clear, healthy pond water.
Algae Control: One of the primary purposes of UV sterilizers is to control algae blooms.Algae can make pond water green and cloudy, and excessive algae growth can negatively impact the overall health of the pond ecosystem. UV sterilizers help to keep algae in check.
Bacterial and Pathogen Control: UV sterilizers also eliminate harmful bacteria and pathogens, promoting a safer environment for fish and aquatic life in the pond. This can help reduce the risk of diseases affecting the pond's inhabitants.
Water Clarity: By eliminating suspended particles and microorganisms, Pondmaster UV sterilizers contribute to water clarity, making your pond more visually appealing.
Types: Pondmaster offers a range of UV sterilizers designed to meet different pond sizes and requirements. These sterilizers can be installed as standalone units or integrated into existing pond filtration systems.
Installation: UV sterilizers are typically installed in the water circulation system of the pond. Water is pumped through the sterilizer, where it is exposed to UV light, and then returned to the pond. Proper installation is essential for effective sterilization.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure the UV sterilizer's effectiveness. This may include cleaning the quartz sleeve (which protects the UV lamp) and replacing the UV lamp itself according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
Compatibility: Pondmaster UV sterilizers are often compatible with other pond equipment, such as pond pumps and filters, allowing for a comprehensive water treatment system.
Outdoor Decor: While primarily functional, UV sterilizers can also contribute to the aesthetics of your water garden or pond. Their compact design and discreet installation make them a practical yet unobtrusive addition to your outdoor decor.
In the context of outdoor decor and patio lawn garden maintenance, Pondmaster UV sterilizers are valuable tools for pond owners seeking to maintain a clean, clear, and healthy pond ecosystem. They are particularly beneficial for those who want to enjoy the beauty of their water feature without the nuisance of excessive algae growth and poor water quality.

User questions & answers
Question: | does this come with bulb or is that sold seperatly |
Answer: | It comes with the bulb. |
Question: | why dose the uv light stop working after a week |
Answer: | I am not an electrical expert and I have never in the three years of operation of the Pondmaster 40 watt UV clarifier had multiple bulbs burn out. But, two possible answers occur: 1. You have been unfortunate enough to purchase defective replacement bulbs. 2. The other possibility is that the transformer is defective and is burning out the bulbs. My suggestion is that you contact Pondmaster and request a replacement transformer. It readily threads off the end of the unit. The manufacturer will undoubtedly request the return of the original. Depending when you purchased the unit, the transformer may be replaced free of charge. One thing to be alert to is the presence of water inside the glass tube that houses the UV bulb itself. That should have NO water inside. Water inside the tube would indicate the rubber seal at the end of the protective glass tube is either broken, damaged or was not properly/fully seated at the end of the transformer housing. Be certain that you have disconnected the electricity before you handle the unit. The bulb must NOT be illuminated when you disassemble the unit. UV light at that intensity will damage your eyes. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How to install |
Answer: | Thanks for your question. Basically you plumb the unit into the tubing that's being pumped water from your pump and then plug it in. Anything specific will depend on your application's needs. If you need more help you can call Pond & Garden Depot toll free at 1-866-305-5459Cody H.Customer Service |
Question: | do the 4 - 90 degree bends, 2 in & 2 out, adversly affect (increase speed/restrict volume/force pump to work harder) the water flow to the waterfall |
Answer: | Every 90 degree bend adds about a foot to the total dynamic head of your system. This means that flow is reduced the same as raising the water up 4 foot in height. The length of your tubing and its size also affect this number. However, the important thing to remember is that UV units work best when the water flows through them slowly and allows a longer contact time between the water and the UV. Many customers opt for a separate small pump to power their UV rather than try and run water through too fast with their existing pond circulation system. A general rule of thumb is that adding a filter or a UV will lose about 15% of your flow of water. hope this helps. John from Graystone |

Question: | What model number is the replacement bulb |
Answer: | upc#025033129725 model#12972 item: 20 watt replacement lamp koi smart pond supply 561-408-2739 |
Question: | Does this product come with any type of warrenty |
Answer: | Not sure about a warranty, but it the only thing that can really go wrong is for the uv build to cease to be effective, and that would not be a warrantied part anyway. It will continue to shine, but will not continue to kill the algae. I run mine all summer and pick it up in the fall, and am on my second bulb in probably 5 years. |
Question: | how long does it take to clear up your pond on average with the Pondmaster |
Answer: | Thanks for your question. Most customer's report satisfactory results in approximately a week but we've heard of customer's saying they got over night results. Make sure you buy the right size unit for your pond and also have the proper waterflow from the pump. Question: | Can I use this for a jacuzzi |
Answer: | The fittings could be adapted but the water would move through to fast to be effective. The manufacturer is very specific about the amount of water flow over the light as too great a flow does not allow enough light exposure to the water passing around and through it. GREAT sterilizer for a medium size pond with proper sized pump. |

Product description
The Pondmaster Supreme 02910 UV Clarifier is the only submersible unit on the market. It can also be used outside the pond when connected with tubing. The ultraviolet light helps to inhibit algae from reproducing by damaging its DNA. It also kills parasites in the water. The quartz sleeve and UV lamp are not installed and are located in separate boxes inside the main box. To install the sleeve insert the round end into the main body until the rubber ring is all the way down into the main body. A flange will prevent the ring from going any further. It will rest against the main body. To install the bulb, unscrew the transformer from the main body. Align the center slot and pins with the mating connector that is inside the transformer. Push the bulb down firmly. Slide the bulb and transformer into the quartz sleeve and screw the transformer onto the main body. Hand tighten until snug so as to not over tighten.
- Powerful pump clarifies and cleans water in your pond
- Can be used outside the pond when connected with tubing
- Only submersible unit on the market
- Ultraviolet light helps to inhibit algae from reproducing
- Kills parasites in the water
User questions & answers
Question: | Can i use this UV clarifier in different country that have 220V power |
Answer: | I would doubt it. My clarifier is plugged into a 120. That question should be answered by the manufacturer. |
Question: | What are the dimensions / size of this |
Answer: | A little larger than a paper towel center tube. |
Question: | How many gallons per hour can this handle |
Answer: | This pump handles up to1500 gallon ponds at 700 gph. I have a 1000 gallon pond and this uv clarifier will clear up water within a day. |
Question: | Can this just lay in the bottom of the pond |
Answer: | It can lay on the bottom of the pond, but to have it do any good, you have to pump water through it. The UV light inside will kill the microbes that cloud the water, but if you don't move the water through the chamber and past the light source, it won't expose the UV to the water you're trying to clean. |
