9 best oriole feeder

An oriole feeder is a specialized bird feeder designed to attract and provide food for oriole birds. Orioles are known for their striking colors, melodious songs, and distinctive preferences when it comes to feeding. Here are some key points about oriole feeders:

  1. Design: Oriole feeders are typically designed to accommodate the unique feeding habits and preferences of orioles. They often feature bright colors like orange and red, which are attractive to orioles, as these birds are drawn to these colors in nature. The feeders are also constructed to be easily spotted by orioles.

  2. Food: Oriole feeders are meant to hold specific types of food that orioles enjoy. The primary food offered in oriole feeders is a sugary solution, often referred to as "oriole nectar" or "hummingbird nectar." This nectar closely mimics the natural nectar from flowers that orioles feed on. Additionally, orioles may also be attracted to fruits like orange halves and grape jelly, which can be placed in special compartments of the feeder.

  3. Construction: Oriole feeders are typically made of materials such as plastic or glass, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance. Some feeders have multiple feeding ports to accommodate several orioles simultaneously, and they may have perches or platforms for the birds to land on while feeding.

  4. Placement: Proper placement of an oriole feeder is essential for attracting these birds. It's recommended to hang the feeder in a visible and open area, preferably near natural food sources like fruit-bearing trees or shrubs. Orioles are often more attracted to feeders that are placed at varying heights in the yard.

  5. Maintenance: To keep oriole feeders attractive to these birds, regular maintenance is required. This includes cleaning the feeder and replenishing the nectar or fruit regularly, especially during the warm months when orioles are active. Keeping the feeder clean prevents the growth of mold or bacteria in the nectar, which can be harmful to the birds.

  6. Birdwatching: Oriole feeders can provide an excellent opportunity for birdwatching and enjoying the colorful and melodious orioles in your backyard. Bird enthusiasts often find great joy in observing these striking birds up close.

In summary, oriole feeders are specialized bird feeders designed to attract and provide food for orioles, which are known for their vibrant colors and sweet-toothed feeding habits. Properly designed and maintained feeders can enhance your backyard birdwatching experience and help support the well-being of these beautiful birds.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this really take 1-2 months before it is shipped
Answer: no
Question: Are ants attracted to this feeder
Answer: I did notice ants on the platform of the feeder last time I turned the knob but I have seen bigger ant problems. There is a red cup that you can hang before the feeder. You fill it with water and that helps to prevent the ants from getting to the feeder. I love this feeder and the birds do too.
Question: What material is used for the base
Answer: The base of this feeder is made from durable plastic.
Question: Aren't bees attracted to the jelly? Can you keep them away
Answer: Bees may be attracted to the jelly. If bees are a problem we would recommend removing the feeder for a few days from that location.

Perky-Pet Oriole Jelly Feeder

Did you know that like hummingbirds, orioles have a sweet tooth? They do! What better way to attract them than by offering their favorite sweet treat – jelly! Other jelly feeders on the market expose the jelly to the elements, causing it to mold and spoil quickly. The Perky-Pet Oriole Jelly Feeder has an inverted jelly jar, ensuring that your jelly is kept fresh and covered. The 32 oz jar can also be interchanged with most standard jelly jars. The built-in stirrer allows the perfect amount of jelly to be dispensed into the tray. In addition, this feeder boasts a vibrant orange color to draw more orioles to your yard!

Jelly Remains Fresh Inside the Jar

Jelly that is exposed to the elements quickly spoils and molds, which is bad for your birds. To keep your offerings fresh and protected from the elements, this feeder holds all of the jelly inside the inverted weatherproof jar so it lasts longer. In addition, the included bottle can be swapped with most 32 oz jelly jars, so there’s no need to scoop jelly when refilling. Clean your feeder every few days to ensure that your orioles are receiving the freshest jelly supply.

Circular Feeding Tray and Perches

This jelly feeder features a large circular feeding tray with a wraparound perch so your orioles have plenty of room to feast! Orioles are known to be attracted to the color orange – the tray’s vibrant hue is sure to catch the eye of passing orioles and draw them to your yard.

Built-in Jelly Stirrer

Jelly can be clumpy and sticky. Thanks to the built-in stirrer, this is no longer a problem. This simple device allows the perfect amount of jelly to be distributed into the tray every time. Simply turn the knob on the bottom of the tray to dispense more jelly.

Sturdy Hanging Chain

With the Perky-Pet Oriole Jelly Feeder, you can have ultimate flexibility in placement thanks to the built-in hanging chain and hook. In addition, the chain’s sturdy metal design provides the perfect balance to the tray so it won’t tip under an oriole’s weight.

User questions & answers

Question: Are the dishes glass
Answer: The dishes are plastic.
Question: do you sell replacement cups for the oriole feeder
Answer: The cups are not really necessary and I have found that if you hang the feeder it isn't used as often as if it sits on a flat stationary surface. Also since I have many Orioles that respond to this excellant feeder I find that putting a small diameter bowl works fine and holds enough grape jelly to feed the beautiful birds!
Question: Is this red or orange and if it’s red will it attract orioles
Answer: It's bright orange and mine eat tons of jelly from it. I'm sure they would come to it if it was red as long as you have grape jelly.
Question: Do the squirrels bother or raid the feeder
Answer: yes. and the racoon. My bowls were always on the ground and the orioles were not even coming to it. I bought this feeder below which is wayyy better. First off I get tons of orioles unlike the other guy. Secondly, unobstructed view of the orioles. With this one 2 out of the 4 sides are blockes by a wall. not good. Buy this one below. https://www.amazon.com/Birds-Choice-Flower-Oriole-Feeder/dp/B00ULK4WDA/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1DI3ZHESE6BKY&keywords=birds+choice+oriole+feeder&qid=1558033130&s=gateway&sprefix=birds+choice+%2Caps%2C271&sr=8-2

User questions & answers

Question: Are bees a problem with this feeder
Answer: I have never had a problem with bees with this feeder; I have with other types of feeders. This feeder is very easy to clean.
Question: Is this feeder dishwasher safe
Answer: Believe them when they say this isn't dishwasher safe. I ruined my first one in the dishwasher... I really like these feeders though, so easy to clean, which is very important to me.
Question: Will humming birds drink from this feeder? I want to attract them both but only put out one feeder
Answer: I have 5 of these feeders and am purchasing 2 more. In Northern California where I live humming bird live year round and some migrate here in spring and summer. Orioles migrate here each summer so that is why I changed to these feeders. I use the 4:1 ratio to make my nectar and both hummingbirds and Orioles (also wasps!) will consume this nectar. In the summer I have to fill 6 32oz feeders every day.
Question: So what is the difference between hummingbird feeders and oriole feeders? I am familiar with hummingbirds and have feeders for them, but until now I never knew that there were similiar feeders for orioles. Wouldn't the hummers feed on the oriole feeders also
Answer: The feeding ports are larger on the Oriole feeders. Yes, the hummingbirds will use the Oriole feeders. Orioles can't use the hummer feeders because the feeding ports are too small for their beaks.

Answer: Yes, the colors show through the bottom of the bowl.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where do you place oriole feeders?

A. Place your oriole feeders in an area that is open enough for the orioles to see it. This area should be protected from strong winds. Since you will be filling up your oriole feeders with nectar or jelly, if the feeder is out in the sun too long, it’s more likely to spoil. You also want a location that is going to be easy for you to reach since oriole feeders will need to be refilled often and cleaned every couple of weeks.

Q. Are orioles in my area?

A. Orioles can sometimes be elusive birds, so don’t worry if your feeders don’t attract orioles immediately. Keep at it! Prepare your yard early, brighten up your landscape and offer sweet treats, like oranges, around your yard. It may take a few seasons before you see orioles in and around your yard. The colors and songs of these birds are lovely and well worth the effort.

Q. How often should I clean my oriole Feeders?

A. We recommend cleaning your oriole feeders at least every other week with a warm soapy water solution. Ensure the feeder is completely dry before refilling with your favorite nectar or Jelly.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this come with ball ports? one expanded-view shows slits. how can i know i'll get the ball ports
Answer: This feeder features ball ports. We will work to get the photos updated, thank you for pointing this out.
Question: Orioles are coming but liquid food does not appear to be going down. Why
Answer: While it may take some time to see a difference, the nectar levels should be dropping over time as more orioles feed. If this is not happening, feel free to contact us directly at 1-855-737-5973 for additional assistance.
Question: Can hummingbirds also drink from this feeder? Do the bee guards prevent them from accessing the food
Answer: Yes, hummingbirds can drink from it. But the bee guards do not work very well and a swarm of bees hung around the feeder all day. I had to stop using it, so it was a waste of my money.
Question: What type of ports does this have, ball or rubber flap
Answer: This feeder has rubber flap ports.

Product description

The first feeder ever to accommodate nectar, one-half orange and four places for jelly. It has been known for years, that the color orange attracted orioles. • Include 2 suction cups

User questions & answers

Question: Mine tips and nectar comes out sides. Can orioles actually get the nectar? It's far down through the hole with the flip guard
Answer: It is indented
Question: ok someone please tell me will house sparrows bother this feeder? do they eat grape jelly
Answer: They are a hard plastic but I usually handwash them and the bottles daily and then spray them with peroxide to keep the slime away. I'm not sure if it's dishwasher safe or not. And don't like to mix chicken stuff with human stuff. Just my own paranoia about the germs. Small flocks RULE! ;-) Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Question: Is it possible to use grape jelly in the reservoir? I'm wondering if the summer heat will make it liquid enough to be used instead of nectar? TIA
Answer: I would get the 1 gallon version for cats if your going that route. The base is small on this model so the risk of the cats tipping it over is real and coming home to water on the floor isn't always fun. The 1 gallon version is much wider and I doubt a cat would flip it when it has at least a half fill of water.
Question: Bees are drowning - do you have bee guards
Answer: Not sure, but I am sure it will.
