User questions & answers
Question: | does this product kill wild onions?, if not what does |
Answer: | There is no residual for GroundClear Weed and Grass Killer, so once the weeds have died you should be able to replant. |
Question: | Does this product gave any fertilizer in it? I recently applied weed and feed and had an unexpected thunderstorm wash it away and need an alternative |
Answer: | I couldn’t get it to kill anything |
Question: | will it kill quackgrass |
Answer: | as long as the grass is established, it should in no way affect it. if you lay down a barrier of pre-emergent and then sow grass seed, it would then prevent the grass from germinating properly, if at all. |
Question: | will it kill bind weed |
Answer: | What does the label say? For southern lawns (I live in Orlando, FL), during the summer months only, I use Celsius WG. Very expensive, but a little goes a long way. Mixes at 1 tsp per gallon of water at the standard rate. And this stuff really, really, really, works. It is the only thing I have found that will kill crab grass. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long before you see results? I used it on an end of hose sprayer, and not seen a change in 2+ weeks. Thx |
Answer: | You will need to spot treat the weeds as well before seeing results. Use a one gallon hand pump sprayer with a few glugs of the chemical, then fill the rest with water. Good luck! |
Question: | can I use it in an area behind my garage that has poison ivy |
Answer: | This will work well with most broadleaf weeds, including poison ivy. Watch in a few months: Poison ivy has a strong root system that might survive first application of herbicide. Glyphosphate will do the job too. It will kill anything green. |
Question: | I understand that this product is also recognized as being "Agent Orange |
Answer: | It was half of the concoction. The other was 2,4,5-t which is now a restricted use product and can only be bought with a license. |
Question: | Is this product safe for use on St. Augustine lawns |
Answer: | 2, 4-D is a generic broad leaf weed killer found in almost all broadleaf herbicides. Since St. Augustine is a grass (and not a broadleaf), 2,4-D will not kill it. However, if used again and again in a particular location, it will eventually kill the St. Augustine which is what I experienced in a small patch which had oxalis (yellow sorrel) weed. I later found out from Texas A&M that oxalis, albeit a broadleaf, is very, very hard to kill since it has underground rhizomes which regenerate the weed even if it appears to have been killed. Their recommendation for a broadleaf weedkiller a homeowner could use (i.e., you don't have to have a applicator's license) was $64.99 for 2 ozs, so I passed. Think I'll try to hand dig my oxalis. |

Question: | Does this work to get rid of Poa Annua |
Answer: | Use a Pre-Emergent in Late Summer The Poa annua seeds produced in the spring wait patiently in the soil for the cooler temperature of fall to arrive before they sprout. You can stop them from sprouting by applying a pre-emergent weed control product, like Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts®, in early fall (August through early September). Follow up your pre-emergent weed control application with an application of Scotts® Turf Builder® WinterGuard® Fall Lawn Food to help your lawn recover from the stresses of summer and keep it thick and green. |
Question: | In central KY am I considered southern or northern for weed control |
Answer: | I also live in central Kentucky. Not so important for weed control but it is important for grass seed. Go with northern to be safe. |
Question: | How long after application before I can plant new seed |
Answer: | Normally it’s 3-4 weeks. Keep in mind, I always spread a thin layer of top soil later and throw down seeds and starter fertilizer. I do not throw seed directly on grass. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I spray weed and feed directly in grass |
Answer: | Jerry, If I'm understanding your question. I would only use it attached to your hose pipe as the directions indicate and if so then yes you can spray it directly on your grass. Hope this helps. |
Question: | How often can i use this on my lawn |
Answer: | I use it once every 6-8 weeks, no weeds and green grass! |
Question: | Should this be applied after overnight temps are above freezing |
Answer: | You should wait till temps are above freezing and more importantly until dandelions etc. are coming up to spray, this is after all weed and feed. If you spray before emergence of dandelions you won't kill them. |
Question: | Can I spray weed and feed directly |
Answer: | This needs to be connected to a hose. They do not give an amount to dilute this, as if it were other concentrated sprays. |

Question: | Will this get rid of quackgrass |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | How much do I use for crabgrass |
Answer: | This stuff contains Quinclorac which is the same stuff we used commercially with good results. The thing about crabgrass, (or any undesirable grasses), is they take a long time to kill. You can up the dosage but take the risk of killing the good grass as well. When Crabgrass starts to die, it first turns colors or red, purple or orange. It will not disappear completely like dandelions or any broadleaf. However it will not come back the next year. That said, this Quinclorac does not prevent any new seeds from sprouting which is what you might have had. Crabgrass puts out a tremendous amount of seeds each year if not killed early enough. (They only spread by seeds and all of it dies at the first frost. ) The key is to hit it hard and often early when it first sprouts before it goes to seed. Any weed seeds can last up to 5 years in the soil before they germinate depending on the soil moisture and temperature. This is why you may see new weeds when you disturb the soil in any way. A lush thick lawn will keep the soil temps down and many seeds will rot before germinating. This is why crabgrass and other weeds tend to sprout next to driveways, etc. because the temps are higher. A neglected, (problem) lawn can take 3-4 years of constant attention to become weed free. Your first application in the spring should be a strong fert with pre-emergent. This will kill off any seeds, (including grass seeds), that try to germinate. Pre-emergent lasts about 90 days. As the temps get hotter, back off on the fert, (unless you water in between the raindrops), and spot treat weeds as needed. No need to weed control the whole lawn as this is a waste. In the fall as temps drop and rain comes back, step up the fert and weed killer again. If you plan to spread new seed wait until fall. The temps are lower, there is usually more rain, the pre-emergent is done, and traffic on the lawn is mostly done. When reseeding, stay off the lawn as much as possible. No foot traffic, dogs, or weed control. I always told my customers to seed an area that they could cover with a few sprinklers and an automatic timer. Otherwise the seed won't take. Also, stay off the lawn when there is frost on it as you can kill the grass. Unfortunately, a very lush, thick lawn is fairly expensive as it can require a lot of water and or chemicals. A full sun lawn requires much more water than a shaded lawn, but recovers from damage quicker. The best lawns I have seen had an underground sprinkler system and had a good, timed lawn care service. Once we got the weeds under control in such a lawn, they required little, if any, weed killer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | I want to put this in a small, hand held sprayer to hit small spots and not have to drag a hose around. What is the desired concentration in water |
Answer: | 3200 sq ft. Active ingredient is Triclopyr, trimethylamine salt 8% 5.74% Triclopyr acid equivalent (0.49 lb / gal) |
Question: | This or Sedgehammer for Bermuda |
Answer: | Not recommended. Many grass seedlings are very sensitive to herbicides depending upon the variety. In my experiencethat herbicide will kill mature red fescu in the recommended concentration and make perennial rye grass look sickly. Establishedbluegrass other grasses will tolerate it. Seedlings of most any grass will be more sensitive to herbicides and fertilizers. Wait untilthe seedlings are a couple of months old before applying herbicide for the clover. |
Question: | How quickly can you see results for the nutsedge |
Answer: | I am not a Vine reviewer and cannot answer your question. Sorry |
Question: | How long should I wait until a second application? Wait until the nut grass starts turning yellow or just wait six weeks |
Answer: | Yes, this stuff works great on a large variety of weeds. It is the only thing I have found that kills wild violet. It was easy to use but it didn't cover as much area as the bottle says it will cover. That was probably because I was overspraying. Some weeds are so resistant that I had to spray them a second time 2 weeks later. Now I have a weed-free lawn and that is saying a lot. |
