14 best weed seeds
Weed seeds are a common concern for gardeners and homeowners engaged in lawn care and gardening. These seeds refer to the seeds of unwanted plants, commonly known as weeds, which can sprout and compete with desirable plants for resources such as water, nutrients, and sunlight. Here are some key points about weed seeds in the context of spreaders, gardening, and lawn care:
Weed Types: Weed seeds can come from various types of plants, and they can be broadleaf weeds (e.g., dandelions, clover), grassy weeds (e.g., crabgrass, annual bluegrass), or sedges (e.g., nutsedge). Different types of weeds require different approaches for control.
Spread: Weeds can spread through a variety of means, including wind, animals, and human activity. Birds, for example, can carry weed seeds in their droppings, while humans may inadvertently transport them on clothing or tools.
Germination: Weed seeds can remain dormant in the soil for extended periods until conditions are suitable for germination. Factors such as temperature, moisture, and light can trigger the germination process.
Prevention: To prevent weed seeds from germinating and taking over your garden or lawn, you can use various methods, including mulching, regular weeding, and the use of pre-emergent herbicides. Mulch can block sunlight, inhibiting weed growth, while pre-emergent herbicides create a barrier to prevent weed seeds from sprouting.
Control: If weeds have already established themselves in your garden or lawn, you may need to employ post-emergent herbicides or manual removal methods like pulling or digging. Be sure to follow safe and environmentally responsible practices when using herbicides.
Spreader Usage: Spreaders are garden tools used to evenly distribute seeds, fertilizer, or other materials across a designated area. When using spreaders for lawn care or gardening, it's important to be cautious and avoid spreading weed seeds unintentionally. Ensure that you are using the spreader properly and not inadvertently aiding weed growth.
Seed Selection: When planting grass or other vegetation in your garden or lawn, it's crucial to use high-quality seeds from reputable sources. Using certified weed-free seeds can help reduce the likelihood of introducing weed seeds into your landscape.
Regular Maintenance: Maintaining a healthy lawn or garden through proper watering, mowing, and fertilization can help prevent weed infestations by promoting the growth of desirable plants and reducing available resources for weeds.
In conclusion, weed seeds are a common nuisance in gardening and lawn care. Preventing their spread and controlling established weeds is essential for maintaining a healthy and attractive outdoor space. Using appropriate tools and techniques, such as spreaders and proper seed selection, can aid in your efforts to keep your garden and lawn weed-free.

Question: | What kind of grass is this? Would like to see the back of the bag to see |
Answer: | How do I take a picture? There are 9+ ingrediences. I love the grass. Thick and a beautiful shade of green. That's about all I can say. I love it and it was my first time planting grass seed. I'm very pleased with the grass. |
Question: | What variety of grass seed is in this mix (i.e. %s |
Answer: | Hi, I am so I can't give you percentages of mix. The seeds are covered with a blue coating of fertilizer, which stays on for about 5 days even watering 3 times a day. This also keeps the birds from eating 20% of it. This is the 5th bag I have ordered as I have 1/3 acre of all weeds and dirt when I recently bought my house. It is an excellent blend and covers very well and spreads out and fills in. I have large areas that get 90% shade and it grows almost as fast as the seeds in full sun. Very happy with this seed. Can't tell you the blend, but it looks beautiful and no weeds at all. The grass comes up fast and full. I think You would be very happy with this product. Sincerely, Mark |
Question: | Is this grass okay for Arizona,s dry climate |
Answer: | No. The grass is similar to a winter rye grass that that does OK in the cooler winter months, but died in Texas as soon as it got hotter and dry. I would not recommend this grass for any southern hot and dry climate. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this be used in hydroseeder |
Answer: | Not familiar with a hydro seeder so I cannot answer that. |
Question: | How long it can grow after plant |
Answer: | WwR, it will take up to 21 days for all the grass seeds in the Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair Sun and Shade to germinate. |
Question: | Can this be spread in the fall |
Answer: | What Zone you are in. If you are in the North, probably not but better wait till late Winter or early Spring. However I had bad experience with Scott on this Bermuda Seed package. If you read carefully, the 10 lb package actually has less than one lb of seeds. Small percentage is fertilizer. 99% are mulch which you can purchase it much less price. It also depends how many sq. ft to plan to cover. This 10 lbs package covers less than 200 sq.ft. It also stated gauantee to germinate in any temperature, even exreme heat, it did not happened that way. |
Question: | Does this grass reproduce or spread |
Answer: | No, Tall fescue is a "bunch grass" and does not spread. Over the years a healthy "bunch" will get a bit bigger to help fill in, but not really spread |

Prep, Apply, Water
Scotts EZ Seed is a revolutionary seeding mix that takes care of the seed for you, so you can grow thick, beautiful grass anywhere!* Scotts unique growing material absorbs water like a sponge, expanding to surround the seed in a moist, protective layer. Just prep the ground, put it down, water and let it go to work!
*Subject to proper care.
Prep
Prepare the area you want to grow grass by removing dead grass and loosening hard soil to help tiny seedlings root.
Apply
Evenly apply EZ Seed so the area is mostly covered, but bare ground is still visible, so that seed can reach the soil. The mulch will expand 4x upon watering to help cover the seed and keep it moist (use half as much for thin areas). Only apply the recommended amount so that seedlings have enough space to access water and nutrients. The seed germinates best when daytime temperatures are between 60°F and 80°F.
Water
A deep and thorough watering is the key to success. Gently water the area until EZ Seed is completely saturated and no more water is being absorbed (this may take several minutes). Avoid pooling water. When EZ Seed begins to turn light brown, it's time to water again. Keep kids, pets and lawn mowers off newly planted seedlings until the grass is 3 inches high.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can I just sow these seeds directly into the ground in late spring |
Answer: | Not really. Milkweed seeds, like many wildflowers, require stratification: several weeks of winter cold and moisture. Best sown in the fall or treated in a refrigerator as described on the seed packet. |
Question: | I live in Southern CA, is there a certain time of year that is best to plant these |
Answer: | I live in SoCal too: I bought a few common milkweed which grew well and self-seeded but since I wanted more I collected a lot of seeds which I had no trouble germinating and have planted out 90 all of which are now starting to flower early Feb - are they the highest quality? I think not so also for variety am buying seeds but growing my own from seed wasn't a problem and I never put them in the fridge. |
Question: | In kansas we have some milkweed growing in ditches. i've googled the butterfly plant and your answers seem to differ. are they perrinial in zone |
Answer: | If you're referring to Butterfly Weed, it's a perennial here in Michigan in zone 6A. Common milkweed grows wild everywhere here, along with Butterfly weed and Swamp milkweed. Here is a link to various species of milkweed and the states and zones they're native to: https://monarchbutterflygarden.net/milkweed-plant-seed-resources/ |
Question: | Are these annuals or perenials |
Answer: | The mexican (bloodflowers) are annuals when grown in the USA The other varieties are perennials but need to be replanted from seed periodically to enhance 'health' and vigor. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these need Stratification |
Answer: | No great germination rate I was very happy with what I recieved |
Question: | Once established, does plant require much water. I live in a fairly hot dry location in San Diego |
Answer: | I live in the southeast zone 7B. Never watered it once other than rainfall. Very drought tolerant once established. |
Question: | What is the best method of germinating these seeds |
Answer: | I just put the seeds in a pot in my kitchen and keep wet til they sprout, then I put pots outside. They need alot of water until "established" which takes many months. I live near Miami, since the dirt is sand here they seem to do best in pots in the yard, even when the pots disintegrate. Since this packet has so many seeds I'll just let them fight for space since I have only so many pots and I'll see how it goes : ) |
Question: | What kind of soil mixture does it do best in? sandy, wet, etc |
Answer: | Milkweeds do well in average good draining garden soil - nothing special required. While germinating the seeds and establishing the seedlings you do want to keep the soil on the moist/damp side (but not sitting in soggy wet soil). |

User questions & answers
Question: | is this biodegradable |
Answer: | I question your competency. Yes it is biodegradable |
Question: | How often is reapplication needed |
Answer: | Here in Western PA we have been having some serious rain issues. I don't doubt the manufacturers specs on the package about using the product every ninety days. However, in my case? About three days after application we had RAIN. The resulting plethora of gnats, skeeter's, flies, no-see-ums" leads me to doubt the product was invented by Noah and could survive a flood. So, if the rain is scheduled to leave for at least a week. I will re-apply. I have had great success with Ortho products in the past. |
Question: | Can pets be in the yard |
Answer: | I put it out in my yard and let my dogs loose in the yard couple of hours later and they were fine. I also have a few stray cats that were go though my yard and lay around in my yard and they were fine also. |

Ants
Ants are common pests throughout the world. They are a nuisance, largely because of the annoyance caused by their presence - constructing mounds in the lawn or invading the home from the yard in search of food.
Fleas
Adult fleas are no larger than 1/8 inch long. They are reddish-brown, wingless insects that are laterally compressed, so they look as if they are walking on edge.
Ticks
Although ticks are commonly thought of as insects, they are actually arachnids like spiders and mites. They have 4 pairs of legs and no antennae. They lie in wait for a passing deer, pet, or person to walk near the shrub or grass they are perched on.
Spiders
Spiders can be found throughout the country. If you have the occasional fly or gnat in the house, chances are you’ll also have spiders in the house. Spiders live on bugs, but not enough to be considered for pest control.
Chinch Bugs
Adult chinch bugs are about one-fifth of an inch long and black with white wings folded over their backs. Chinch bugs feed on many kinds of lawn grasses, but St. Augustine grass and Zoysia grass are favorites.
Cutworms
If you see spots of brown grass and birds pecking at your lawn, you could be facing a cutworm infestation.
Mole Crickets
Mole crickets can be twice as long as their singing cousins - and their tunneling can ruin your lawn.
Sod Webworms
Sod webworms are the larvae of lawn moths. They live in the root level of your lawn and munch up the grass leaves. At root level, you’ll see small white tubes made of silky web. At dusk, you might even see the worms themselves.

WHY USE BUFFERED COIR SOIL: You bought the best / heirloom seeds or saplings of precious herbs at a premium price. It is time for them to get a head start using our Buffered Coco Coir Grow Cube.
ADDED NUTRIENTS AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY: Our premium buffered Coir absorbs nutrients rapidly and makes it available to the Roots immediately, no time wasted to get the plants growing.
IT'S ALL IN THE ROOTS: Roots develop rapidly due to the fluffy nature of the coir. Water, air and added nutrients are readily available to the roots due to the tubular structure of the Coir.
GROW CUBE AIR PRUNING: The rapidly growing roots reach the biodegradable cellulose cloth and get exposed to air and stops growing. This enables more strands of roots that grow thick and strong instead of thin long roots that go in circles and suffocate the plant.
EASY TOTAL TRANSPLANT: No more shock to the plant, No more trying to pry the plant and pulling the plant without the Roots or losing half the roots. Transplant the entire Grow Cube without disturbing the roots to the 3 Gallon Grow Bag.
PROFESSIONAL USE: We supply the same products to professional growers and large scale growers of Hemp family of crops.
CONTENTS:
Nine pieces of 32mm sleeved discs, a grow tray with a transparent lid to create a Greenhouse effect for starting the seeds.
Three professional grade buffered grow cubes. Seeds can also be started directly in the Grow Cubes. Plant cuttings can also be grown initially in Grow Cubes.
The 3 Gallon Grow Bags comes perforated to drain excess water. Grow Cubes can be transplanted in to the Grow Bags.
PLEASE NOTE: Buffered Coco Coir is an inert natural fiber containing minimal nutrients. For best results follow fertilizer, lighting, watering and ventilation recommended for your plants.
- EVERYTHING NEEDED TO GROW YOUR OWN MEDICINAL CROPS – **SEEDS ARE NOT INCLUDED** - kit includes 3 gallon professional grade buffered coco coir grow bags - 3 grow bags (9 gallon of Coir), 3 professional quality grow cubes, 9 grow discs and 1 tray with lid to create a greenhouse effect. Contains No Seeds or Fertilizer.
- WHY GROW IN COCONUT COIR – coir growing medium is a renewable resource and is eco-friendly. Coir is increasingly used worldwide as a preferred growing medium for large scale greenhouse cultivation of cannabis. Now we bring it to your home!
- SUCCESSFUL TRANSPLANTING - no more shock to the plant, no more pulling the plant without or losing the roots. Just transplant the disk into grow cube and grow cube into 3 gallon grow bag without disturbing the roots.
- WHY USE BUFFERED COIR – it is our premium coir that’s washed multiple times to remove sodium chloride and then treated with calcium nitrate to further reduce excess salt to enable rapid growth of sensitive medical crops.
- **SEEDS ARE NOT INCLUDED** - SUCCESSFUL CROPS – because the natural fibers allow plant roots to absorb the ideal balance of water, oxygen and nutrients.
User questions & answers
Question: | Will the nutrients in the included coir be sufficient for full bloom, or will other nutrients need to be acquired in addition to this kit |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. The Kush Kit contains great building blocks for your grow. Coir as a growing medium does not contain adequate nutrients to for bloom. Question: | Do I need to soak the seeds before placing in the disc? Growers choices recommends 14-18 in spring water |
Answer: | Pre-soaking the seeds in water is a common method of seed starting. If you use this method be sure not to let the seeds soak for more than 24hrs as this can "drown" your seeds. Here is a link to more info about soaking the seeds for germination: https://www.greencultured.co/pre-soaking-water-germination-technique/. Please note that Enroot Products is not a grower. For best results we recommend that you speak directly with a grower in your geography as environmental factors have a profound effect on your results and methods that work for you. Happy Growing! Question: | So besides the seeds and rock wool, do I need starter solution, ph down and a ventilated cover |
Answer: | A ventilated cover is helpful. No starter solution necessary, but probably helpful to test water for photos insure balance. |
Question: | I am going to use these to plant seeds. Can I put the cube directly into the garden when the plants are large enough |

Answer: | This works fine in the midwest. I would recommend you plant it in an area that gets alot of sun. You will also want to water it at least twice a day for the first couple of weeks until you see growth and then once a day for another couple weeks. |
Question: | Will this grass grow in the northern part of South Carolina? Will it do good on sun and shade areas too |
Answer: | Zoysa or any grass as long there water (grass is a weed) |
Question: | This doesn't seem to show Florida on the map.. i live in central florida and am looking for something to grow in a fairly shady spot in the yard. This |
Answer: | Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Heat-Tolerant Blue Mix should grow well in most areas, as long as it's not in the deep southern regions. |
Question: | Can scotts turf builder starter food for new grass + weed preventer be applied to scotts turf builder grass seed - tall fescue mix at the same time |
Answer: | This is a mix of Tall fescue and KBG (about 30-40% of the seed is a form of KBG called hybrid KBG i.e kBG crossed with Texas blue grass. The kbg blades on here are a medium width blade (essentially looks like normal kbg) . The tall fescue varieties in here are also medium bladed - will blend really well with the kbg. The caveat is though, like any tall fescue, if the turf stand is thin, the tall fescue blades will widen significantly to fill the space. Once the space thickens, the tall fescue blades width will come back down to normal. The trick is to to keep your stand thick via good cultural practices and this will be a good looking turf. What's nice about the kbg in here (the cultivar is called Thermal blue) , is that its aggressive and will rapidly fill in any voids to keep the stand thick. Thermal Blue is known for having very good heat and drought tolerance, it will be able to hold up to the same conditions as tall fescue. It's only draw back is that it's not quite as dark as some of the more elite kbgs and has a bit of a dull look. The tall fescue counters it very nicely and as a mix, it's a very attractive and hardy stand overall. |

Answer: | I use this frequently to keep the deer from chewing on plants. |
Question: | Rechargeable? If not what size batteries |
Answer: | I believe the label says to apply every 30 days or as needed. I found that I needed to apply it every 10-14 days or so. And of course after it rains you need to reapply. I found it works well but it got kind of expensive having to reapply so often. |
Question: | Will it spread rock salt or only the smaller, more evenly sized (and more expensive) chemicals |
Answer: | No it won't keep plants from growing. We use it to keep animals away from our bamboo. It works to keep them away. |
