3 best rated lawn fertilizer spreaders
Lawn fertilizer spreaders are essential tools for maintaining a healthy and lush lawn. These devices are designed to evenly distribute fertilizers, seeds, and other granular materials across your lawn. They come in various types and have different features to suit various lawn sizes and specific needs. Here's what you should know about rated lawn fertilizer spreaders:
Types of Spreaders:
Broadcast Spreaders: These spreaders are the most common type and are suitable for larger lawns. They distribute fertilizer in a wide, fan-shaped pattern as you push them. They are efficient for covering large areas quickly.
Drop Spreaders: Drop spreaders are ideal for precise application. They release fertilizer directly below the spreader, making them best for narrow or small areas where accuracy is crucial.
Capacity: Fertilizer spreaders come in various sizes, typically measured in pounds or gallons. The capacity you need depends on the size of your lawn. Larger lawns may require spreaders with greater capacity to reduce the need for frequent refilling.
Settings and Calibration: Most spreaders allow you to adjust the settings to control the rate at which the fertilizer is distributed. Calibration is essential to ensure even coverage and prevent over or under-fertilization.
Material Construction: Look for spreaders made from durable materials like rust-resistant metal or high-density plastic to ensure longevity, especially if you plan to use them frequently.
Wheels and Tires: The size and quality of the wheels and tires impact the spreader's maneuverability and stability. Larger, air-filled tires are better for rough terrain, while smaller solid tires work well on smooth lawns.
Handle and Controls: Comfortable handles and easy-to-use control mechanisms are crucial for user-friendliness. Some spreaders come with ergonomic handles and convenient on/off controls.
Spreader Type vs. Lawn Size: Choose a spreader type based on your lawn size and specific needs. For larger lawns, a broadcast spreader may be more efficient, while drop spreaders are better suited for smaller, precision-required areas.
Maintenance: Regular cleaning and maintenance are necessary to keep your spreader in good working condition.Cleaning after use and storing it in a dry place can prolong its lifespan.
Price and Brand: The cost of lawn fertilizer spreaders can vary widely depending on their features and quality. It's essential to choose a reputable brand known for producing reliable and durable lawn care equipment.
Reviews and Recommendations: Reading user reviews and seeking recommendations from gardening enthusiasts can help you make an informed decision when choosing a fertilizer spreader.
In summary, the choice of a rated lawn fertilizer spreader depends on your lawn size, the type of material you plan to spread, and your preference for features and durability. Consider these factors carefully to select the right spreader for your gardening and lawn care needs.

User questions & answers
Question: | How fast is it |
Answer: | the bracket came with mine. I bought pins from local hardware. Contact seller for bracket and the bracket will fit on the front or back of 4-wheeler by using two u-bolts also got at hardware. |
Question: | What is the guarantee on 12 volt motor |
Answer: | I don’t think this spreader would spread native grass seed very well. It doesn’t have an agitator. The tufted native grass seed would just sit in the hopper. You might be able to add or mix in some type of carrier like wheat seed and it would spread okay. |
Question: | will this fit on my john deere ridding mower |
Answer: | The mounting plate is 8" or 10" square with four U bolts to mount it to the tubes on the rear carry rack of a ATV.It has two has two hitch pins to mount the spreader to the plate. I just welded the plate to a 2"x2" square HHS tube and mounted in the receiver of my Polaris Ranger works great! I used a choke cable to open and close the gate. |
Question: | can this carry two 10 year old kids |
Answer: | Yes you can. The tub is plastic and the spreader mechanism is metal so it can rust if left in for long periods. I use it to spread salt, fertilizer, lime, sand, and seed. Fertilizer and salt are the most corrosive and I rinse the inside when finished for the season and give it a light coat of WD40 and have had no issues. Make sure the salt is dry or it will clump up and not spread. You might not want to start with a full load at first and see how it does before filling it all the way up. I did make a brace to mount under the spreader to help sturdy it up and it makes it solid as some materials are pretty heavy when you fill it all the way up. |

User questions & answers
Question: | would it work well for powdered lime |
Answer: | Just bought a Classic Drop Spreader for use with pulverized (powdered) lime. Worked great with a 40 lb. bag and a setting of 14. Took a few passes to use up the bag at the recommended application rate found on the bag of lime. Cross (perpendicular) application was recommended by the lime supplier. Tried to apply a bag of lime with a rotary spreader (Scotts 2000) and wound up with clogging due to the insufficient hole size even at a setting of 11. Recommend you use granular lime with the rotary spreader. Seems to work well for me with the Scotts 2000. |
Question: | can you buy replacement tires |
Answer: | Replacement wheels are available from Scotts. Please reach us through the "Contact Us" page on scotts.com. |
Question: | Does it say where this spreader is made |
Answer: | The spreader is made in California. |
Question: | How is the spread when used for salt in the winter? Does it have a good spread or does it just trickle to the floor with very little spread |
Answer: | I bought this 5 years ago and only use for salt in the winter, the metal frame finally gave out in the beginning of the 6th winter. Spreads salt fine as long as the wheels turn. Not great for built up ice pack on driveway. Works great for normal use at home. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is this product made |
Answer: | Price $61.00 thats all I got |
Question: | what size hitch pin is required and does the hitch pin come with the spreader |
Answer: | 22" spreader. Description clearly states that. |
Question: | How wide, in feet, is the spread/throw of the material you are spreading when you're moving |
Answer: | Replacement wheels are available from Scotts. Please reach us through the "Contact Us" page on scotts.com. |
Question: | What size pin and how wide is the hitch opening |
Answer: | You do have to pump out the air. It’s a good looking product and I felt it did an adequate job the 3x I was able to use it, but, it ripped during the 4th attempt to get it over my foot cast. Go to Walgreens and get their cast cover for about $22. I’d give the Walgreens version 5 stars, as it reaches all the way up to the knee/thigh, and it’s much easier to pull on and take off (no tugging). |
