2 Equipment

Kratky Method and Aeration

The Kratky method is the easiest hydroponic growing technique. No pumps, no complex irrigation systems . . . just plants sitting in water. Answer:	I doubt it. They are very light even when wet. I've used them as a potting medium for cymbidium orchids and they support the plants well without adding a lot of weight but I would not use them as a ground cover or mulch.

Answer:	Yes you can use this for aquaponics but you may want to look into clay pebbles as well.

Answer:	Coco Coir has no nutrients on it's own so you need to provide them for your plant. I use General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Bloom, Micro Combo plus Cal Mag. For auto's you use less nutrients then photo period strains. Answer:	You should not have a problem using HSCP for your purpose. Some customers received great results in using it with a combination of other ingredients to make rock gardens. Combined with Portland cement, peat moss, and water, the combination make great light-weight planters.

Answer:	Organic is plants or animal products that are raised without the use of man made fertilizer, feeds or sprays to kill bugs. I am not sure if this product is organic or not. I use it in my orchid mix, but not on my vegetables I grow them organically.

Answer:	1/4" is about the largest in our bag, and most were slightly smaller. Still works perfectly in our hydroponic buckets (with strainer nets), and the 100L bag is HUGE, but the pieces are much smaller than we expected from "super coarse".

Answer:	They are bigger than most perlite. We tried to order it locally at any of the gardening centers here and could only find small. My husband was very particular and wanted the space in his soil. The pieces are a little bigger than popping corn.

Answer:	No; Peas and beans are usually treated with rhizobian inoculant, which is soil bacteria that form symbiotic relations with plants (mostly with legumes) and are instrumental in nitrogen fixing. This product is mycorrhizal inoculants, which contains fungi to help plant roots. It's used for many or most all plants to reduce plant stress and increase growth and yield.

Answer:	Propagate the amount you purchased in some compost - then spread the compost - that will stretch the microbes....over a larger area.

Answer:	I won't be using this cable for a few weeks. I can't give you a definitive answer except to say that they are designed to heat the soil from 70-76 degrees.

Answer:	Yes, the heater is designed to do exactly that. There may be limits to that -- extremely low temps may overwhelm the device -- but I don't live in such a cold climate. My use is generally restrict to cold nights during the fall and winter growing seasons and it accomplished that easily. Good product IMHO.
Question:	I am planning on using this on my concrete patio deck and putting my plastic Bonsai pots above the cable. How hot does the cable get
Answer:	The built-in thermostat designed to maintain 77°F-85°F, but the cable needs to be buried in a sandy substrate with a plastic cloth on top to protect tools from damaging the cable when working in the garden. Question:	In the reviews people say there is a thermostat. Does the cable turn itself on at a certain temp? If so what is the temperature and is it adjustable
Answer:	There is a tiny thermostat built into a bump on the sub-soil wire. It is not adjustable. I found it capped the soil temperature in my raised bed at about 70F. I'm very satisfied with this heating cable. Just make sure you follow the instructions about laying the cable out in a close zig-zag pattern, a certain distance apart and not crossing any wires. If used outside in cold and very cold temperatures, the soil temp can drop below 55--due to much greater heat loss, not the thermostat. In cold situations, it is much more effective with 1" styrofoam insulation laid flat about 4" below the surface and a tight fitting plastic or glass cover to put over your raised bed or coldframe on cold nights.

Answer:	Mostly, yes. They should become saturated after about 24 hours. But some may always float no matter what. Don't know the application, but you can either add more of them or lower the water level. As long as the bottom pebbles are wet, the water will sick upward through capillary action.

Question:	Does it has smal peices of sand and plastic like othe cheap brands
Answer:	I have been using this brand for a couple years and I have not found any foreign objects in it. I usually mix about 1/3 of the hydrated coir with 2/3 potting soil. I find most potting soil mixes, like Miracle Grow, too strong for most house plants. My observation is it definitely helps prevent potted plants from becoming root bound.
