8 best kelp for garden
Kelp is a valuable natural resource that can benefit your garden in various ways, particularly when used as a fertilizer or soil amendment. Here's what you need to know about using kelp for your garden, related to fertilizers, plant food, soils, gardening, lawn care, and patio garden:
Nutrient-Rich: Kelp is a type of seaweed that is rich in essential nutrients, including potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus, and trace minerals. These nutrients are beneficial for plant growth and development.
Organic Fertilizer: Kelp is often used as an organic fertilizer or plant food in gardening. Its organic nature means it doesn't contain synthetic chemicals or additives, making it an eco-friendly choice.
Improves Soil Structure: When kelp is incorporated into the soil, it can help improve its structure by increasing its water-holding capacity and promoting better aeration. This can lead to healthier root development and overall plant growth.
Enhances Microbial Activity: Kelp contains compounds that can stimulate beneficial microbial activity in the soil. These microorganisms can aid in breaking down organic matter and making nutrients more available to plants.
Natural Growth Stimulant: Kelp extract, derived from processed kelp, is often used as a growth stimulant for plants. It can encourage root development, increase flowering, and improve fruit or vegetable quality.
Disease Resistance: Some studies suggest that kelp can help enhance a plant's resistance to diseases and pests, making it a useful addition to an integrated pest management strategy.
Application Methods: Kelp can be applied to your garden in various ways, including as a liquid spray, powder, or by incorporating dried kelp directly into the soil. The method of application may vary depending on the specific needs of your plants.
Seaweed Mulch: Some gardeners use dried kelp as a mulch in their garden beds. This can help retain moisture, control weeds, and slowly release nutrients into the soil as the kelp breaks down.
Environmental Benefits: Using kelp in your garden can be an environmentally friendly choice because it is a renewable resource and doesn't contribute to harmful chemical runoff that can affect local ecosystems.
Compatibility: Kelp can be used in various types of gardens, including vegetable gardens, flower gardens, and lawns. However, it's essential to ensure it is compatible with the specific plants you are growing, as some may have different nutrient requirements.
In summary, kelp is a valuable natural resource that can be used in gardening to improve soil structure, provide essential nutrients, and enhance plant growth. It is a versatile and eco-friendly option for gardeners looking to promote healthy and sustainable plant development in their gardens, lawns, or patio gardens.

User questions & answers
Question: | is this good to add to rooting specimen water |
Answer: | It's been a while since I have used this as I am now using Lugol's but I remember it remaining in solid - needing to be stirred once settled - form. Always check for the location Kelp - or any sea veggies - comes from. Look for Norwegian. Pacific sourced is a huge no-no since Fukushima.. |
Question: | Is this water soluble |
Answer: | The package says 'premium quality dried seaweed, laminaria japonica, imported by Great Eastern Sun, phone: 828-665-7790. I think the term organic is not going to apply to something grown in the sea, 'harvested from the cold waters offthe north shore of the Shandong Peninsula of China, near Korea. It is cultivated on rope nets spread between posts planted in the shallow areas of the sea bed, where it naturally attaches itself directly from the sea water.' This is on the back label and there's more. They're pretty up front about how it's grown, however, and the kombu is the best I've encountered so far. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are there any chelated vitamins or minerals in this product |
Answer: | I don't recall if there are bones. Please check with your veterinarian before feeding them to your dog. I feed canned salmon to mine. The processing makes salmon bones brittle enough to mash up for feeding without issues and its a good source of calcium but I checked with Annie's doctor before adding canned salmon to her home cooked meals. You should also be concerned about sodium as well. Wild Planet sardines contain what I think is a normal amount of sodium but again we're talking about a dog so check with the doctor! |
Question: | does anyone use this for human consumption |
Answer: | Starwest says that in a serving size of 625 mg or 1.8 teaspoon there is estimated to be 437.5 mcg of iodine. For any other questions I would message them directly on their website. |
Question: | Picture says 12.5 pounds the listing says 25 pounds which is it |
Answer: | Yes. It is first dried and then powdered, but not further processed. |
Question: | How is this product different from the Thorvin Brand kelp |
Answer: | it said made from Canada on the front of the bag. |
