User questions & answers

Question: Can this be grown in a container and moved to a protected area in the winter
Answer: Sorry, I really don't know for sure, my plant did not make it. I feel I am in the wrong growing Zone.
Question: How long for it to bear fruits
Answer: Biwa (loquat) trees take 16 years before fruiting. I read that somewhere, but I tried it anyway, and it did indeed take exactly 16 years. Biwa seedlings are not true to the cultivar from which it came; they revert back to the original wild species with small fruits, nothing like the original tree from which it came. They will grow into wonderful specimen trees, but you will have to get rooted cuttings in order to get fruits worth eating.
Question: How tall will it be? can it be planted in the pot? and moved into side during the winter time
Answer: in Japan, there are many of this tree naturally grown and most of them grow big. It can be the same size as apple trees. I got mine last winter and came in like four inches tall but it is already big like maybe 12 inches, 8 inches wide. It grows fast. I never seen anyone grow this in the pot but you may try it, keep tree size same by cutting roots?
Question: Does it need to be grafted to produce fruit
Answer: If it is from seedling, yes. Or it will take 8 to 10 years to bear fruit. But if you bought your loquat from the nursery it will bear fruit a year or two. The one I bought from seedling did not make it. Last year, I bought loquat from Lowe's so far it's still alive. It's about 5 ft tall. I'm not sure if it's going to fruit this year. This info I'm giving out is what I read from the internet. You can go to "Google" to find out also.
