The temperature of your brew is one of the most important factors in producing yummy kombucha. Yeast loves the heat. That's why you need to keep your brewing vessel at the right temperatures throughout the brewing process. 

The problem is, the surrounding temperature changes with the season. A heating pad that works in the summer is not going to to work in the winter.

After many test brews, I've finally found the best temperature settings for each season. Just set and forget according to the season and your tastes - you can be confident your brew will turn out great each time!

Answer:	Hello. This is supposed to be used every night before bed time. It works best at night time when a person is resting. Do not apply this with the compression stockings. It will damage stockings. Hope this helps.
Question:	Can this be used to make yogurt in a 1 gal. container
Answer:	I am not sure about the osteoarthritis, but I do have joint pain in this area both wrists. The Joint Ease Balm does ease the pain and discomfort. I find the JEBalm relieves pain and aches in many areas, at ankle, back, etc. The osteoarthritis might be more severe, but I think the Joint Ease Balm would be comforting. I find the aroma so soothing to my senses. This by itself makes me feel better. I wish you well in your finding relief for your osteoarthritis. Answer:	I believe it's 120v - works with a standard household outlet in North America. Great product, by the way.

Answer:	I would imagine it would work, has 3 temp settings, low, med, high. I have a thermometer strip on my 1 gallon jar that tells me what temp it has reached.
Question:	Is there supposed to be a slit on the other end of the wrap to loop the Velcro into
Answer:	It won't work as well with 2.5 gallons. It's designed to be used on a 1-gallon jar. That being said, you will be able to raise the temperature with the wrap on high - it just depends on what temperature you are going for and how cold you keep your house. Also, keep in mind you will have to find a way to secure it as the strap is designed to fit around a 1-gallon vessel. Thanks for the question!!
Question:	How many watts does it use
Answer:	Hi Joseph! Only a guess on my part, it couldn't hurt! I get some nasty dry skin but it probably doesn't compare to what would happen to me in the AZ sun. This might sound gross, but I've been getting flakes in my eyebrows, and this balm really helps. I'm ultra sensitive to soaps and skin care products and don't have any problem at all with this. The texture is kind of like glycerine, not greasy, and very long lasting. I've tried a few of this company's products and find the only problem (if there is one) to be the scent. I suppose it's a personal thing, and how good your sense of smell is. (I found the bruise balm scent to be nice by the way.) All the best to you Joseph, I hope I was of some help!

Question:	Can I attach the probe to the outside of the container.or must it be in the liquid? Kombucha is too acidic to have long periods of contact w/metal

Answer:	The controller uses a Triac design. I'm not an expert with PID so I can't guarantee it will work with a PID controller. Cool idea though.

Question:	How do you secure this strip around the brewing jar
Answer:	In this case you need to adjust the necessary temperature (90 degrees) initially. An automatic safety shut off occurs if the probe reads 108F which not only helps avoid ruining a brew by killing the yeast, but also reduces the risk of a burst vessel.

Answer:	It goes on the outside of a container to make good contact I use a small piece of duct tape but any tape should work.
Question:	can I rap this around a one gallon flower pot to keep the soil warm , for a rare topical plant i have , to keep it warm in teh winter months
Answer:	Thank you for the interest in our goods. This heater will work with almost any fermentation vessel up to 8 gallons. Unfortunately, we can't foresee whether our product will be too large for your particular vessel, sorry.
Question:	Anybody use this for Kefir
Answer:	Hi there! We recommend wrapping the heating pad around your brew jar for the initial fermentation. You don't want to heat a kombucha fermentation from the bottom, because you will over-activate your yeasts, who like to hang out on the bottom of the jar. The bacteria prefer the top of the brew jar because that is where the oxygen is, so it's best to keep the wrap centered right in the middle of the jar to help keep the bacteria and yeast in balance :) However, for the second fermentation, or what is referred to often as the "bottling" stage, you can lay the mat underneath the bottles. Why the difference between the first and second fermentation? Because unlike during the initial brew, once the fermentation is complete, we actually do want to activate the yeasts to help better carbonate your kombucha once they are in sealed bottles! Question:	Will this wrap around and stay put a half gallon mason jar
Answer:	No UL marking. This product has the European standard mark, CE. CE Conformite Europeenne is similar to our UL Listed, but not the same—likened to the three UL classifications,. These three tiers are UL listed, UL recognized, and UL classified.
Question:	is this product ul listed
Answer:	I'm sure you could, because it is a gentle heat hovering around 70*. You could set the planter inside another container inserting the heater between the two pots! Just be sure the plant pot is large enough for the root system, because with the warmth your plant will continue to grow throughout the winter.
Question:	How long is the electrical cord from the mat
Answer:	The optimal temperature is 37 °C (98.6 °F) so unless your ambient is at or above body heat, Kefir will benefit from a bit of extra heat. It will not grow well under 20 °C (68 °F) or over 45 °C (113 °F). Note that the 3" x 20" strips will wrap around a 6-7" jar.
Question:	How much electricity does it use
Answer:	The temperature reading is less accurate the further from the center of the vessel the probe is. More so if the probe is not making contact with the actual liquid via a thermowell.

Question:	Is it OK to use an extension cord with this product
Answer:	Usually when using extension for heaters or heavy draw.Have to use a heavy extension 12 gauge or a line strip with built in circuit breaker they are also 12 ga.Pays to have 1 or other at home anyway.
Question:	It says auto shut off so how warm does it keep things at? I’m geting a snake and it needs to be between like 74-76 degrees on one side and was thihnki
Answer:	It does shut off in case of emergencies. Keeps my two and a half liter continuous Brew at about 76 degrees
Question:	Has anyone used this to help keep a sourdough starter warm in a cool room
Answer:	I think that it would work OK, but that it might not be the best solution for the problem. I use my oven (heat off) as my bulk rise chamber, and use a heating pad — the sort of thing you use for an aching back — to get the temp in there up to 80–85ºF. The heating pad sits on the floor of the oven to add heat to the entire space, and that heating pad itself is not too different from this heating pad. However, for just sourdough starter itself, unless you’ve got commercial-bakery quantities of that going on (in which case, you’re probably not asking this question) I think that you’d be better off with a small lunch cooler and a night light incandescent bulb if your room is really too cold. You’re going to waste most of the expensive electricity you’re paying for with a 10 inch circle radiating its heat into the room.
Question:	If hooked to an inkbird inside a chest freezer inside a garage, can it hold ale fermentation temps overnight when it dips into the 30s
Answer:	This is exactly my setup, but with a former kegerator. I have an Inkbird with kegerator plug on cool side, and this connected to heat side. It has dropped to freezing a couple of times in my garage, but I never saw a noticeable dip in the fermentation graph (15 minute recording).

Answer:	I’m not sure but I would ask the seller because they were quick to respond when I wanted to know what was in the culture.

Answer:	I'm no electrician but the thing is so much smaller than I thought, it worked great for my Brewsy wine, keeping it warm....
Question:	How long is the cord to plug it in? It looks very short? thks MM
Answer:	I use a rubber band to secure mine. Velcro strips or gaffer's tape would also work. If you're using this to brew kombucha or a comparable drink, whatever you do, don't set the jar on the heating pad, which is what another user recommended. That's the last thing you'd want to do. Doing this offsets yeast growth and will ruin batches. The variance in temperature throughout the container will also be greater.

Question:	Since the sweet spot to brew kombucha is between 78-85, it appears that from the settings of low, med, and high is to warm for the perfect brew
Answer:	I assume it depends on the starting temperature of the room. My house is about 65 degrees most days, so I put my jar on a high shelf which brought it up to about 68 degrees without the heater, but my kombucha was taking about 2-3 weeks to brew. With the heater running continuously it is about 78 degrees. So for me, it heats to 10 degrees higher than room temperature.
Question:	does this heater have a battery back-up
Answer:	Not if the electric temperature strip is laid across the stick-on temperature stick. Be careful using tape or angling it in a way not to touch the stick- on temperature stick and it will be correct.
Question:	What temp is the medium setting
Answer:	Sorry might be hard to find in the description but it's 6' long (72 inches) Thanks
Question:	I just received my heating strip and noticed it buzzes when it is on. Normal
Answer:	It comes with a large rubber band to help it stay where you want it. It is not rigid so it won’t mold to the jar on its own if that makes sense. Think heating pad just in a smaller package. Secure it with the rubber band and you should be just fine!

Answer:	Not sure but would guess NO. They provide a very gentle heat for liquids when the temperature in your home is too cold. e.g. Raising the temp in a jar 5 - 10 *F when making Kombucha.

Answer:	The wrap around doesn’t go all the way around. It is held in place by a rubber band. You will need a rubber band that fits around the caboy. I have a 2 gallon glass vessel with 1.5 gallons of kombucha in it. It keeps that amount of liquid at 82 degrees with the room temp at 72 degrees.

Answer:	Attach the suction cup to the inside enclosure.
Question:	How long can this be left on continuously
Answer:	I've left this on for weeks at a time. Almost going on a month. I use it for my Leopard geckos.
Question:	Could i put this inside a 10gal hermit crab tank and put moist sand on top of it? Or would i need to put it under the tank
Answer:	It is not waterproof so i wouldn't suggest using it in the tank. Careful using it under though, it can warm up the glass and sand much warmer than it'll get the air, it may overheat the crabs unless the temperature probe is also under the tank.
Question:	Can the Sensor be placed in liquid? I'd like to use it to brew Kombucha
Answer:	No. I use it for Kombucha. Wrap the mat around the container. the first one came with an insulator sheet too. Just put the sensor on the outside of the container and get a temp strip for the container that will tell what the temp is for control. Done this for over a year with another mat and had no issues. This one since it did not come with the insulator sheet I am putting a towel around it to help hold in and keep a consistent temp.
