| Answer: | Hello, happy to answer your question. I own the Waterman Exception and I can confirm that the nib is 18kt solid gold and the nib bears the 18K 750 engraving. You didn't ask about the color of the nib but it is shiny white/silver because it is Rhodium-Plated. Here's a snip of info from Reddit, but I don't know if it is uninformed opinion, or fact. "Gold always needs to be plated. Gold is very easily damaged if it's being rubbed against surfaces all the time. Rhodium is used because it is in the platinum family and is way harder than gold. So plating with Rhodium gives you the buttery smoothness of gold and the ruggedness of this exotic metal." I might also add that rhodium plating is also a design choice, where its silver/white appearance simply looks better on the pen than would a yellowish gold nib You can find lots of info on this subject just by searching Google. Finally, it is a great pen and the square body is a unique shape that stands out from the traditional round barrel pens. It is one of the best-writing pens I own and I can recommend it highly. | Answer: | How to Load a Fountain Pen: If you are new to fountain pens and how they work, it can be confusing and even frustrating. But once you get started, you will truly enjoy your new writing instrument. Here are some tips when getting started with fountain pens. First, let’s review the parts of a fountain pen: a. The fountain pen nib - you will be inserting either a converter or disposable ink cartridge into the back of it when you are ready to use the fountain pen. To get to it, you would remove the pen cap and then unscrew the nib from pen body to load the ink. b. A disposable ink cartridge. If you use this, you will press / insert the narrower end of it into the back of the nib until you feel it puncture the seal. c. A converter - used only with bottled ink. You use a converter instead of a disposable ink cartridge. You fill the converter with ink from the bottle of ink you purchased by putting the narrow end into the ink and twisting the end of the converter to draw ink into it. Then insert it onto the back the nib. |
