Answer:	I don't think so. I put this on a sofabed in my 2nd guest room. The sofa bed has a 4" mattress and I put on a 3" pillow top. This cover was fine over both. Enough elasticity on the sides to not just hang there over a shallower mattress.
Question:	Would these work for pencils instead of chalk
Answer:	Will definitely fit a 13" deep mattress. Mine is around 12" (mattress + foam topper), and this pad fit easily with lots of room to spare. I've washed it in hot water, gentle cycle, and dried on medium heat. No problem there.
