11 best stands with boom arms
Stands with boom arms are essential accessories in the realm of audio and music production, particularly for microphones. These stands provide a flexible and adjustable support system, allowing users to position their microphones precisely for optimal recording. Here's an overview of stands with boom arms:
Adjustability and Flexibility:
- Stands with boom arms are prized for their adjustability. The boom arm allows users to extend and position the microphone at various angles and distances.
- This flexibility is crucial for achieving the desired sound capture and for adapting to different recording setups.
Boom Arm Design:
- The boom arm is an extendable arm attached to the stand. It can be adjusted vertically, horizontally, or even rotated.
- Some boom arms have multiple articulation points, providing a high degree of freedom in positioning the microphone.
Types of Stands:
- Stands with boom arms come in various types. Tripod stands are common, providing stability with three legs. Desk-mounted stands are also popular for those working in confined spaces or home studios.
Microphone Compatibility:
- These stands are designed to accommodate a range of microphones, from small condenser microphones to larger dynamic microphones commonly used in recording studios.
Use in Studios and Podcasting:
- Stands with boom arms are widely used in recording studios for vocals, instruments, and podcasts.
- Podcasters often use desk-mounted stands to position their microphones conveniently during recording sessions.
Shock Mount Compatibility:
- Many boom arms are designed to work seamlessly with shock mounts. A shock mount isolates the microphone from vibrations and handling noise, enhancing the quality of the recording.
Cable Management:
- Some stands come with integrated cable management systems, allowing users to route microphone cables neatly along the boom arm.
Portability:
- Some stands are designed to be portable, featuring collapsible or foldable designs. This makes them convenient for musicians or content creators who need to set up and break down their equipment frequently.
Weight and Stability:
- Stability is crucial to prevent the stand from tipping over, especially when supporting heavier microphones. Many stands have sturdy construction and adjustable counterweights for balance.
Compatibility with Accessories:
- Stands with boom arms often have compatibility with various accessories, such as pop filters and windscreens, further enhancing the quality of recordings.
Recording Efficiency:
- The adjustable nature of boom arms enables users to quickly and precisely position the microphone, improving efficiency during recording sessions.
When selecting a stand with a boom arm, considerations include the type of microphone being used, the desired positioning flexibility, and the specific requirements of the recording environment. The goal is to find a stand that provides stability, adjustability, and compatibility with the necessary accessories for optimal audio capture.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this hold the Elgato wave 3 without the shock mount? What is the minimal weight for the engagement of the spring |
Answer: | It will. One of my closest friends is using this arm with that exact microphone. He is using the shockmount but the weight difference is negligible. The positioning of the arm is more pliable than you think. In my experience, it simply stays where you put it, regardless of whether it is bearing any load or not. |
Question: | Will the small version hold the Elgato Wave 3 with shock mount and pop filter or Will i need the large version |
Answer: | I have the larger-size stand and would recommend it if you want the stand to stay out of the way of multiple computer monitors (the lower arm raises it above the level of a 26" monitor. My stand has no problem holding an sE Electronics X1-s condensor mic with a plastic shock mount that together weigh over a pound. It easily supports this mic and shock mount with confidence. The Elgato Wave 3 weighs only about 10 ounces, so it should be just fine on this stand even with a shock mount. I've very pleased with this stand (again, I bought the larger size and highly recommend it). |
Question: | Can this rode podmic be screwed into this arm? also, can this hold the rode podmic |
Answer: | Yes I have a PodMic on this exact arm (the large size one) and it works perfectly. I was uncertain if the weight of the PodMic (which is surprisingly heavy) would be able to be held with this arm but it does so without a problem. I've been using it for a few months now and it hasn't sagged or had any problems. And yes, it does screw in to this without an issue. |
Question: | how does it compare to rode PSA 1 in terms of reach length and movement |
Answer: | Same measurements. Same sturdiness. I own both and this one is a bit better when paired with a Shure SM7B as the part that screws into the mic is a bit longer which allows for more pivoting movement of the mic while mounted. With the Rode PSA the XLR jack comes in contact with the mic mount which prevents rotating the mic. |

Question: | How do you get it to work with the blue yeti? The adapter that came with mine was too small for my yeti |
Answer: | There is an adapter that is in the piece with 2 circles what can be removed that should fit in the mic. That is what I had to do and it works for me. The metal adapter will not be suitable at all though for it. But the plastic screw adapter will screw directly into the actual stand. |
Question: | Will a Blue Yeti mic fit in the shock mount |
Answer: | The shock mount is *too small* for the Blue Yeti, however, you can still connect that microphone to the stand as-is - you do it without the shock mount. I purchased this item from 'J&JOYCE' on June 6, 2020 (barcode X0023PNL07 on box - no other identifiers available). I can confirm that *the stand works perfectly with both my Blue Yeti and my Blue Snowball*. Both these mics have the same threaded 5/8" female connector underneath. (Normally the trip pod for the Blue Snowball screws into this connector. For the Blue Yeti, the connector is not used when mounted on the heavy stand it comes with). The stand came with a 5/8" male-to 3/8" female adapter, which you screw into your Blue microphone. This then connects to the peg on the stand. You will *not* use the shock mount that comes with the same for these types of Blue mics. |
Question: | Why some early reviews titled "cute""i love the kitty""makes the best burgers ever"? this can't be the description of the microphone stand |
Answer: | I am very surprised that these review, malicious do I have to admire the rivals, all first give me a bad review and now has nothing to do with my reviews, want to every means to put my most real products don't let it consumers for everyone, so I opened a CASE to find amazon help, hope you can give me a fair reply. Now my customers are all from old customers.Only when they use my products will they be surprised by their quality. Let's hope the market is fair, not rigged. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do I need to buy a microphone mount for this? Will any fit on there |
Answer: | Yes, you need a mount. There are several on amazon - look on the stand page under what other people bought ..., or do a search of MS7701 microphone adapter or mount. |
Question: | will the stand work with a blue yeti |
Answer: | It absolutely does. This stand screws in perfectly to the Blue Yeti, and it hold the mic up no problem. Just make sure you tighten all the screws. |
Question: | Would this be too heavy to use as a boom mic stand for a movie |
Answer: | Actually it's too light and tends to fall over. It also would be a terrible way to hold a boom mic. If you need a low budget boom mic holder use a painters extension pole and rig up a shock mount from the mic from rubber bands and PVC pipe cult into rings. |
Question: | Can you unscrew the boom arm and use the base as a normal vertical microphone stand? Does the vertical part end in a standard 5/8" thread |
Answer: | Hi Kevin. Sorry for the late response. Yes you can unscrew the boom. The base of the stand is wider than a standard round base so you would have to be careful not to step on or bump the base leg as you would be standing closer to the microphone stand without the boom extension. Hope this helps. |
