14 best xlr splitters
An XLR splitter, in the context of microphone cables, live sound stages, and musical instruments, is a device used to split an XLR signal into multiple paths.XLR is a common type of connector used in professional audio equipment, especially for microphones and line-level signals. XLR splitters are handy tools for various applications, and they serve a few primary purposes:
Signal Distribution: XLR splitters allow you to send a single audio signal from a microphone or source to multiple destinations simultaneously. This can be useful in live sound setups, recording studios, and stage performances where you need the same audio source to feed multiple devices or channels.
Isolation: Some XLR splitters feature isolation transformers. These transformers help to eliminate ground loops and reduce unwanted noise or interference in the audio signal. This can be crucial for maintaining audio quality, especially in professional settings.
Versatility: XLR splitters come in various configurations, including simple Y-splitters, passive and active models, and units with different numbers of outputs. Some advanced splitters even allow you to adjust the level of each output channel individually.
Monitoring: In live sound and recording environments, XLR splitters can be used to split microphone signals, sending one to the main sound system and another to a monitor mix for the performer to hear themselves on stage.
It's important to note that XLR splitters should be chosen carefully based on your specific needs. Some are passive, meaning they don't require external power, while others are active and may need power to operate. Additionally, the quality of the splitter can affect signal integrity, so it's essential to choose a reputable brand or model to avoid signal degradation.
Overall, XLR splitters are valuable tools for audio professionals and musicians, allowing for efficient signal routing and distribution in various live and studio settings.

User questions & answers
Question: | I have two condenser mics, but my interface only has one 48v supported port and I want to record stereo. Will this splitter allow me to do so |
Answer: | At first glance, I will say, "NO", the purpose of this "Y" cable is really the opposite, i.e., take two inputs and BRIDGE them into one output. So, you COULD feed your two condenser mics into this, and they would be able to work from the 48v phantom power supplied, BUT, the audio will be a summary of the two mics, that is, a monaural representation from the two mics. |
Question: | Need to split monitor output from mixer to powered monitor and venue wall plug. Will this work or do I need a splitter box |
Answer: | Im not sure what a venue wall plug is but this is definitely for sending audio signal. If you have powered speakers dont they have signal THRU, in and out |
Question: | Does it allow simultaneous use of 2 mics capturing both to 1 XLR port, or is it 1-mic use at a time |
Answer: | Dear Customer, Yes, the XLR male to dual XLR female cable allows simultaneous use of 2 mics. Any further question, please feel free to contact us. Thanks! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this to take a stereo signal from my mixer and send it to one speaker |
Answer: | Yes, it just combines any two signals into one. |
Question: | I want to use one dynamic mic and one guitar (classical electric). Would that work |
Answer: | This unit is best for two microphones, preferably the same type. In your case, you could use one dynamic microphone, but I’m betting that you’ll have to use a Hi-Z to Lo-Z transformer for your guitar. If you want to use one dynamic mic and one guitar, going into one input, you’d be better off getting a small mixer. |
Question: | Can this splitter be used to redistribute mono signals (i.e., could one hook up an instrument cable to it and run to multiple amps |
Answer: | There is one Mono input and 4 outputs which will duplicate the mono input to 4 other sources...ex: 4 amps. I use these in my PA setup to run 4 other amps from my non amped mixing consolel. I hope this helps. |
Question: | I need to take a single mic xlr output from my mixer and split to to right and left channel to my camera's two xlr inputs. will this work |
Answer: | Yes, it will work. But remember that a single XLR output is mono. You can split a mono signal and have two mono signals, but that is not the same as a stereo signal. |

Galaxy Audio JIB/Y
The Galaxy Audio JIB/Y allows you to split a microphone to 2 different inputs. One application is splitting your microphone, first to the monitor board or powered monitor on stage and second to the front of house board. This will split your signal, giving you control of your own stage mix without affecting the house volume. Phantom block circuitry prevents interference from two different phantom power sources.
A Brief History of Galaxy Audio
Galaxy Audio began in 1977 with Superior Sound, operated by Brock Jabara and his partner Jim Pearce. They both had eight years of concert sound experience, and their rental products flanked the stages of concert halls and arenas all over the country, providing sound for Aretha Franklin, The Bee Gees, Janis Joplin, James Brown and countless others.
Brock and Jim soon developed the Hot Spot Personal Monitor. It was immediately a hit among musicians who used them. It was obvious that with some refinement, the new products could fill a long-standing void in the marketplace. Superior Sound began to metamorphose from speaker rental company to speaker manufacturing company. Galaxy Audio was born.
Galaxy Audio began enhancing the performance and quality of their product and expanded to include many new products and categories. We have experienced growth in areas we never expected, and our goal remains to provide great products and service for many years to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these sturdy, good quality |
Answer: | Very sturdy. |
Question: | Will these work with phantom power |
Answer: | It should work with phantom power, but I haven't tried it. |
Question: | Will this fix on sony Z150 video camera |
Answer: | You don't need this for the Z150 since you can already assign the external XLR input channels on the camera to be combined or separate using the camera's internal menu. Look for the INPUT1/INPUT1 option which will set the audio input on channel 1 to record on both channel 1 and channel 2. The INPUT1/INPUT2 Option keeps them separate. |
Question: | Im thinking of purchasing the behringer powerplay p1 and it has a l and r input xlr. can i use this cable as a splitter to get the full sound |
Answer: | Yes but you'll end up feeding the same signal to both inputs on the P1. Since the P1 has a stereo/mono switch, there's really no need to feed the same signal to both inputs, just switch it to mono. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work the other way? I need to pull two separate mic outs from a Shure wireless handheld/lav combo into a single input for house sound |
Answer: | I recommend you don't do this if the two inputs are used at the same time. This will cause a degradation of the sound from both of them due to patial signal cancellation. To do this, you need a combiner such as a Pro AV2. However, this device uses 1/4" inputs to a single 1/4" out but it properly combines the two signals. "Y" connectors such as the one you've asked about are designed as splitters; not combiners. |
Question: | Can I use this to go from a R and L XLR into a single XLR out |
Answer: | No. Not according to schematic on the Hosa Technology web site. http://hosatech.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/YXM-100_Pinout.pdf There are cables available to do what you want, this isn't one of them. look for "stereo XLR adapter" or "stereo XLR to mono XLR" |
Question: | Can i use it for clippers like to put the male nd the female in the middle of the clipper's cable |
Answer: | Actuality it works , I use it like that once . |
Question: | Connecting a shotgun to Zoom h5. if mic needs phantom power, do you power from both channels or just one? Any risk of damaging your microphone |
Answer: | Sorry, just re-read your question. I am not familiar with the Zoom h5. If it provideds phantom power, then I would only power the mic from one channel. |

New Professional Studio Series Noise Free Cables by GLS Audio. They have a 6mm thick, high quality, flexible rubber jacket (not that cheap stiff plastic jacket like others sell). They are heavy duty Noise Free "True Balanced LO-Z" and have 3 pin XLR connectors on each end. These cables have dual insulated copper conductors plus they are shielded. They are hand wired & hand soldered and have high quality metal ends. The XLR's have the famous GLS Audio internal Tri-Grip strain relief and external rubber booty. You'll notice the newly developed GLS Audio Y-Grip technology. This special injection molded piece was designed to allow 6mm cable to be joined in a Y connection. Normal Y-Cables can't use thick 6mm cable because the connectors can't accept 6mm cables. Typical Y-Cables use 2mm, 3mm or sometimes 4mm cable. Our Y-Grip technology allows 6mm cable with 21g Copper Conductors.

User questions & answers
Question: | How should this splitter be used with condenser mics and phantom power? Such as when sending audio to both a recorder and mixer at the same time |
Answer: | When dealing with phantom power and mic splits, you should really have an isolation transformer involved. The isolation transformer will pass audio, but provide DC isolation between the two systems. The transformer would have an XLR female input (going to the mic), and two XLR male outputs (one direct output, in parallel with the input, and one isolated output which is on the other side of the transformer). The console connected to the direct output of the splitter has phantom power turned on. The console on the isolated side of the splitter has phantom power turned off. Since the iso transformer provides DC isolation between systems, there is no risk of damage to either console. |
Question: | Are the ends serviceable? I need to reverse polarity on one end for briding an old proceed amp |
Answer: | I am not looking at my Y cables, but I am 99.9% sure they are removable just like any other good XLR plug. The Y cables I bought have 2 Male XLRs on them so you may already have what you need. These are good rugged cables, so much better than the ones I made for myself before I found & bought 5 of these. NOTE: If you do take one end off, you may want to un-solder the wires off the plug & onto the new plug so you don't lose any length. All you need is a steady hand and patience. |
Question: | Can i use this to split a telex/audiocom ifb feed |
Answer: | Yes, definitely. |
Question: | I would think they would work in reverse, splitting a XLR output to two sources? Would there be any loss of signal |
Answer: | I use them in forward and in reverse, there is normal splitter loss, these are very useful at gigs as a plug gender switcher for signal distribution for powered speakers, mixers etc. No extra hiss is heard when I use this product, good quality, I have many. |
Product description
Use this handy box when you need to split a line level signal up to 6 times*. Features 1 female XLR input wired to 6 male XLR outputs. Perfect when adding extra amplifiers to a system, connecting multiple powered speakers, splitting intercom lines, etc. Line level outputs can usually be split 6 times without noticeable loss of signal quality. The actual number of splits that can be accomplished depends on the level of the source signal and the impedances of the source and destinations in a particular application. It is not recommended that the SPLIT 6 be used to split a microphone level signal to more than two outputs. Attempting to do so may result in poor frequency response and reduced signal level. The SPLIT 6 may be used to split microphone level signals in most applications if this limit is observed.
User questions & answers
Question: | Does the signal in have to be balanced for the line outs to be balanced? I ask since I have an unbalanced source plugging into the input |
Answer: | Yes. It’s not a DI, only a 6 way split. There is no isolation or balancing between the input and outputs. |
Question: | Would this work to split a monitor send signal from a mixing board |
Answer: | Yes, this will split one line level signal six ways. |
Question: | Will this work if I have a camcorder that only has to xlr connections, will this allow for me two use more then two xlr devices now |
Answer: | I'm not sure of your application but essentially this device allows you to split 1 x XLR 6 times. So, whatever you put in to the input comes out of all 6 outputs. |
Question: | Is this thing powered? 12V power cord |
Answer: | No. No power cord needed. Just plug in a monitor feed input and split up to 6 monitor outputs from the same input feed. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i connect 2 power speakers into my sound system |
Answer: | No, this allows you to connect the left and right channels outputs to one speaker. |
Question: | Can you plug this directly to a PA speaker |
Answer: | Yes you can I have a couple of them myself. |
Question: | I'm trying to run 2 sm57s through a dual cloudlifter with a y xrl to an external behringer phantom power supply. would this work without signal loss |
Answer: | The SM57 microphones are intended for instruments so if you are using the dual Cloud Microphones CL-2 Cloudlifter 2-channel Mic Activator to amp up your signal then it should work just fine. However, you will lose the individual sound control from each microphone as it is combined in the splitter cable. Since you are using 2 identical microphones it ensures balance as the signals are combined. |
Question: | I have two condenser mics, but my interface only has one 48v supported port and I want to record stereo. Will this splitter allow me to do so |
Answer: | No. This is a sum of two sources, or double mono. What is does, it takes two mics and sums them together into one input. All stereo signals need two inputs. This splitter would work if you had an extra tom on a drum kit. You could record or mix two toms into one channel, however panning would pan BOTH toms, not give you the option to pan them left and right. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Arrgh, why only 6 inches? How about 24 inches, is such available |
Answer: | The longest I've ever seen them is 0.3m or 1 foot. Cable creations. |
Question: | Can this splitter be used to bring two microphone signals in to a single mixer preamp input |
Answer: | This is the one you need, at least this is what I used in multi mic depositions: 6" Y-Cable Cord Splitter XLR-M to Dual XLR-F |
Question: | Hey, I want to have two different signals, 1 to the main mixer and 1 to the monitor mixer. Can I use this splitter |
Answer: | If you are talking about studio monitors, you can go to from an out to left and right monitors if the have an XLR input. Live the Y cables work better for if you want to combine mic signal into 1 channel. I currently use a Y cable for overhead drums due to my limited channels in the board. |
Question: | Are these good for recording in stereo |
Answer: | This splits a mono channel into 2 mono channels. It is not related to a stereo use. |
