7 best grubs killers
Grub killers are products used in pest control, specifically designed to target and eliminate grubs, which are the larval stage of various beetles, including Japanese beetles, June bugs, and European chafer beetles. Grubs can be destructive to lawns and gardens as they feed on the roots of grass and other plants, causing damage to the vegetation and potentially creating brown patches on your lawn.
Here are some key points about grub killers:
Types of Grub Killers:
Chemical Insecticides: These are often applied as granules or liquid sprays and contain active ingredients like imidacloprid, clothianidin, or trichlorfon. They work by killing the grubs when they come into contact with the treated soil.
Biological Control: This method involves introducing natural predators of grubs, such as nematodes or certain types of bacteria (e.g., Milky Spore), to the soil. These predators attack and kill the grubs without harming beneficial organisms or the environment.
Application:
Grub killers are typically applied during specific times of the year, such as late summer or early fall, when grubs are actively feeding near the soil surface.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper application methods and dosage, as they may vary depending on the product.
Preventive Measures:
To reduce the need for grub killers, practice good lawn care and maintenance, including regular watering and fertilization.
Maintaining a healthy, thick lawn can make it less attractive to egg-laying adult beetles.
Effectiveness:
The effectiveness of grub killers can vary depending on factors such as the type of product used, the timing of application, and the severity of the grub infestation.
Biological control methods may take longer to show results but can be more environmentally friendly.
Safety Precautions:
When using chemical insecticides, always follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate protective gear.
Keep pets and children away from treated areas until it is safe.
Local Regulations:
- Be aware of any local regulations or restrictions regarding the use of grub killers in your area. Some regions may have guidelines to protect water sources and non-target species.
Remember that grub killers are just one part of an integrated pest management strategy for maintaining a healthy lawn and garden. It's important to assess the severity of the grub problem and choose the most suitable approach, whether it's chemical or biological control, or a combination of both, while also considering long-term lawn care practices to prevent future infestations.

Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer Products
There’s an army of insects out there looking for the next lawn or garden to feast on. Don’t let them turn the fruits of your labor into an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer products are formulated for broad-spectrum control of outdoor insects, whether you’re controlling pests in your lawn, garden or landscape. They even take care of bugs below ground, leaving plant-munching insects with nowhere to hide.
How do you know if you have insect damage?
In the heat of summer, we all have brown patches in our lawns. If it’s irregular or mottled, the browning could be a symptom of lawn pests. To test, pick a spot in the affected area of your lawn and spread the grass blades so the surface roots are visible – this will give you a good view of turf-feeding bugs. If the browning is fairly uniform over your entire lawn, it’s most likely caused by hot and dry weather.
Aphids
These green, yellow, brown, red or black pear-shaped insects with long legs and antennae aren’t easily disturbed. They suck plant juices out of the leaves, stems or roots of plants.
Ticks
In the same family as scorpions and spiders, these tiny arachnids are blood-feeding parasites found in tall grass. They carry infections such as Lyme disease, and females inflate from flat insects to oval shape after feeding.
Fleas
Found primarily on pets, fleas are just 3/16 inch long, but they carry several diseases, including typhus, bubonic plague and tapeworm. They usually appear in clusters of two or three on human ankles or legs or anywhere on pets.
Japanese beetles
A constant source of aggravation for gardeners, Japanese
beetles eat 300 types of trees and plants. Metallic green with coppery brown wing covers, these 3/8 inch-long creatures are often found around homes and gardens, attacking flowers, fruits and lawns.
Grub control
The tough lawn grub can cause real damage to your lawn and landscape. Whitish and c-shaped, grubs feed on grass roots, making lawns incapable of drawing necessary water and nutrients from the soil. Grubs are highly active during the summer – adult females generally lay their eggs in the soil during July, and the newly hatched grubs begin to feed on turf roots in early August, causing grass to die off in irregular patches.
For grub control, use Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer products in late spring, then again in the fall if a second generation appears.

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used under fruit trees ie. Apple, pears, blueberries etc?? I need to be 100% sure and would like responses fro those whom are certain |
Answer: | I always want to give good information on this poisen. I can not answer your question. I use Bayer poisen for the yard and around the headges and for flea controll. I contacted Bayer about useing it during the hot summer months in Fl when the tempature reaches above 90*; Bayer informed me that it stops killing insects above 90*. For fruit trees you need to call their 800 # and ask them or your county Agracultrial Agent. Have a safe growing season. Dallas |
Question: | Will this work in flower beds with weed fabric and ceder mulch on top? Worried it won't get down to the grubs |
Answer: | This substance is a solvent. it will eventually dissolve and absolve in ground, so it would work when spread over mulch. |
Question: | does this kill chiggers? the normal insect killers won't work because they're arachnids, but noticed it does kill spiders and ticks |
Answer: | Yes it specifically lists chiggers as a pest it will control. Thanks for considering your purchase from Amazon through AgCareDirect. |
Question: | will this kill honeybees |
Answer: | Thats a good QUESTION. I dont know I would call Bayer and talk to them. Also make sure you read the MSDS INFORMATION and the instructions on how to speead it. Bayer is good for killing fleas and ticks. It lasts three months and use it untill the out door temps hit 90* or above. I live in Jax Fl. I use a comertial pest controll service year round and I have them spray for fleas during the 90* hot summer months. Comertial liquid poisen kills the fleas and ticks above 90*. I either just dump the bag in my spreader or sometimes use rubber gloves and speead it around the foundation of my house to kill roaches before they have a chance to get in. Also, BAYER does not kill anything if you use it during the hot days of summer when the tempature is above 90*. I called Bayer and read it on the MSDS sheet. Hope I helped you out. I was a Hamat Tech when I was a Firefighter now I am retired. Have a good spring. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you use this in vegetable garden |
Answer: | No strap. Easy to carry by the handle though. |
Question: | will it harm earthworms |
Answer: | I no longer have the box it came but the tank has "20020" in raised plastic written on it. However, in looking at the item listed as 'Chapin 20020" there is a differnce in the wand tip, the spray lever does not lock 'on' (looks like there is a place for piece of plastic to slide for locking), and there may be a few other differences. It may be that Chapin uses the same tank and takes away some bits of plastic to make stripped down models. |
Question: | Can I use with crabgrass preventer |
Answer: | This is NOT the right model for spraying sealers and/or stains. The correct models are 25010, 25012, 25020, and 30600. See the Chapin website. |
Question: | Does this kill Vine Weevil grubs? Thank you |
Answer: | It will vary based on the product you are using so read the directions carefully for every product you spray. But in general, 1 gallon for 1,000 sq. ft. That said, I just used it on a lawn bowling green which is about 14,000 sq. ft. The pesticide I used said 1 gallon to cover 1,000 sq. ft. That would have been 12 gallons to cover the green, but when I had finished I used half that amount. This may have been because I walked too fast (I walked about the pace I do when I spread fertilizer). So, depending on how fast you walk, how comprehensive you want your coverage to be, and what the pesticide label suggest, I would say 1 gallon covers at least 1,000 sq. ft and at most 2,000 sq. ft. I also recommend using a dye/colorant so you can tell where you have sprayed and how think the coverage is. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this work for gofers as well |
Answer: | No. Gophers are vegetarian so they want roots mostly. There are products designed for gophers, but gopher traps are a good choice with some practice. |
Question: | if the product poisons the mole and kills it and another animal eats the mole will it kill the other animal |
Answer: | I do not know. I have no data. I have not seen any dead moles on the surface of my lawn. That being said, I would think the affected mole would die in its habitat (underground tunnels) and therefore the risk would be minimal to other animals, unless the other animal digs it up and eats it. |
Question: | Not sure i'm understanding this. do you use this with a trap as bait or is this some sort of poison you use by itself |
Answer: | It is a poison. You find active tunnels then poke a hole and insert the bait. When i find an area of activity I flatten all the surface tunnels then watch closely for new activity (I wait an hour then check every 30 minutes). Once some new tunnels pop I insert bait that way I don't waste bait. I have a 1 acre yard and had activity in 3 spots. Two have ceased but the third is stubborn. 66% is pretty good IMO. |
