13 best guitar xlr cables

Guitar XLR cables, also known as microphone cables or XLR cables, are essential components in the world of musical instruments and live sound production. These cables are commonly used for connecting electric guitars and other musical instruments to amplifiers, audio interfaces, or sound systems. Here's what you need to know about them:

  1. Connector Type: XLR cables have three-pin connectors. These connectors are balanced, meaning they have two signal-carrying conductors and one ground conductor. This design helps reduce interference and noise, making them ideal for transmitting audio signals over longer distances.

  2. Applications: While XLR cables are often associated with microphones, they are also widely used for connecting electric guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, and other musical instruments to audio equipment. They provide a reliable and noise-free connection.

  3. Cable Construction: Guitar XLR cables consist of three main components: the cable itself, the connectors, and internal shielding. High-quality cables use materials that minimize signal loss and interference, such as oxygen-free copper conductors and braided or foil shielding.

  4. Length: XLR cables come in various lengths, typically ranging from a few feet to several meters. It's essential to choose a length that suits your needs while avoiding excessive coiling or tension.

  5. Signal Quality: XLR cables are known for their ability to transmit audio signals with high fidelity and minimal noise. They are particularly useful in professional audio settings, including recording studios, live sound stages, and concerts.

  6. Compatibility: XLR cables are standard in the audio industry, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of equipment, such as mixers, amplifiers, audio interfaces, and DI boxes. However, it's crucial to check the type of connector your instrument or gear requires (e.g., male or female XLR).

  7. Durability: Quality XLR cables are built to withstand the rigors of professional use. They often feature robust connectors with strain relief and rugged outer jackets that protect the internal components from physical damage.

  8. Cost: The price of XLR cables varies depending on factors like length, quality, and brand. While there are budget-friendly options, investing in higher-quality cables can provide better signal integrity and long-term reliability.

  9. Maintenance: To ensure optimal performance, it's essential to inspect and maintain your XLR cables regularly. This includes checking for loose connectors, cleaning the contacts, and storing them properly to prevent tangling and kinks.

In summary, Guitar XLR cables are versatile and reliable tools for connecting musical instruments, including electric guitars, to audio equipment. Their balanced design and quality construction make them a staple in professional audio setups, ensuring clean and noise-free signal transmission for high-quality sound reproduction.

User questions & answers

Question: will these work for speaker wires when it says awg #23 when most speaker wires should be 12 to 14 guage
Answer: I would not use these cables for speaker wiring. They are 23 gauge for flexibility, but intended only for microphone cables. In addition, they have 3-pin XLR connectors that are standard connectors for microphones, but not for speakers.
Question: How does the "guaranteed for life" work
Answer: And Anh N. Lam doesn't work like supposed to be either.
Question: Where/What country are these made in
Answer: China
Question: This is a shielded/balanced cable. Can someone tell me if it is mono or stereo
Answer: XLR cables are used for microphones or patching equipment together - they are mono they are balanced but the 3 pins do not represent that they are stereo.

User questions & answers

Question: Hows the soldering job on these cables? Do you happen to know how these compete with other brands like Pro Co and Mogami
Answer: The soldering job is every bit as good as the other brands. These cables are a fantastic value for the price and the only difference between these cables and ridiculously-priced cables like Mogami is thicker shielding and sometimes over-marketed "braiding." I would use the most expensive cables only if I had a real professional recording studio and even then it would only be for instruments and microphones.
Question: Guitar = boss looper pedal = mixer board. cable going from looper to mixer. will this work and achieve a balanced l/r sound? help
Answer: The problem with going into the mixer with a balanced TRS cable is that most single 1/4 inputs on the board are mono, which makes the L/R irrelevant. If you want a true L/R stereo sound on the board, you have to run two different cables for each side. Hope that helps!
Question: Can i use this to connect my outboard compressor (xlr) to my interface (1/4" trs
Answer: When making any kind of adaptive connection there are a number of issues and concerns. Any connection using XLR requires phantom power for the XLR device, you need to have that available at some point that will satisfy the XLR device. Phantom power will not usually be transferred through all adapters. It has been my experience that phantom power is not always where you want it to be when you need it. Another issue is pin-out; you would expect that there would be some standardization with this stuff, but not the case sadly. What I have done in the past is just try it, I've never had any damage caused by this trial and error method, but still, be aware that it could happen. Consider calling Sweetwater and speaking to one of their experts, then buy the adapter from THEM if they think it will work. May the Force be with you! :) 7/21/20
Question: Are this cables balanced or unbalanced
Answer: They are balanced cables. In fact the reason I purchased them was to replace unbalanced cables with them. They are well made and perfect for recording and sound reinforcement.
