12 best baritone mouthpieces
Baritone mouthpieces are a crucial component of wind instruments, particularly in the context of brass instruments like the baritone horn and the euphonium. Here's what you need to know about baritone mouthpieces:
Function: The mouthpiece is a critical part of a wind instrument as it is the interface between the player and the instrument itself. It's where the player's airstream is converted into sound.
Design: Baritone mouthpieces are designed specifically for baritone horns and euphoniums. They have a unique shape and size to fit these instruments and produce the desired tonal qualities.
Materials: Baritone mouthpieces are typically made from brass or other metals. The choice of material can influence the sound produced. Some mouthpieces may also have a silver or gold plating for aesthetic reasons.
Cup Depth: Baritone mouthpieces come in various cup depths, which affect the tone and playability. Deeper cups often produce a darker, mellower sound, while shallower cups may result in a brighter, more focused tone.
Rim Size and Shape: The rim of the mouthpiece varies in size and shape, allowing players to choose one that is comfortable for their embouchure (the way they use their lips and facial muscles to play). This can impact playability and endurance.
Throat Size: The throat size of a baritone mouthpiece affects the airflow and resistance. Players can select a throat size that suits their playing style and desired sound.
Brand and Model: Various manufacturers produce baritone mouthpieces, and different models within a brand may offer unique characteristics. Musicians often experiment with different mouthpieces to find the one that best suits their preferences.
Sound Characteristics: The choice of a baritone mouthpiece significantly influences the sound produced by the instrument. Musicians may seek mouthpieces that help them achieve the desired tone for different musical genres or performance contexts.
Maintenance: Proper maintenance of the mouthpiece is essential to ensure its longevity and performance. Regular cleaning and sanitizing are important, as saliva buildup can affect the sound and hygiene.
Compatibility: It's crucial to ensure that the chosen mouthpiece is compatible with the specific make and model of the baritone horn or euphonium. Not all mouthpieces fit every instrument.
In summary, baritone mouthpieces are integral to the sound and playability of baritone horns and euphoniums. Musicians carefully select mouthpieces based on factors like cup depth, rim size, and throat size to achieve their desired sound and playing experience. These accessories are an essential part of the world of musical instruments and wind woodwind accessories.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a small or large shank |
Answer: | Good question and yes it’s a small shank. Like you I didn’t know and had to do quite a bit of research to figure that out. Hope my answer helps and that the product works out for you. |
Question: | Will this work on a Euphonium |
Answer: | If it's a true euphonium, you would need a large bore adapter. This mouthpiece has a standard size mouthpiece shank, so it will be too small for a euphonium which has a large shank mouthpiece receiver. They make adapters which would allow you to use this mouthpiece, but you would probably be better off with large shank mouthpiece. |
Question: | Is this the small shank |
Answer: | yes - it will fit most baritone horns, but not most euphoniums. Will also fit small bore trombones, but not most large bore horns, at least not without an adapter. |
Question: | Is this for the small shank or large shank |
Answer: | This mouthpiece has a small (standard) size shank. It will work with most baritone horns, but I believe most euphoniums have a large shank mouthpiece receiver, and would require an adapter to fit. |

User questions & answers
Question: | This mouthpiece comes with ligature and cup |
Answer: | No. |
Question: | What is the difference between the models |
Answer: | The tip opening is the difference between the models. |
Question: | What ligatures (preferably cheap) would fit well on this mouthpiece |
Answer: | Rovner L-2RBL (aka: L-7.5). It is made for slim hard rubber bari sax mouthpieces ( e.g.: Berg Larsen and V16) and works very well with the Vandoren V16. |
Question: | What style of vandoren reeds would be good this mouthpiece |
Answer: | I use Vandoren Java Green unfilled 2.5 to 3 reeds. The style of music you play may determine the reed. (Jazz/rock/funk/classical) You may want to try the Vandoren Sampler reed pack that has 4 different Vandoren reeds. I would use the reeds you have first. You may already have a reed that works well. It is generally a very "reed friendly" mouthpiece. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is is primarily a classical or jazz mouthpiece |
Answer: | Classical. If you're looking for a classical bari sax mouthpiece, the BL3 and BL4 (which is a little more open) are a good choice. |
Question: | Is it good for jazz |
Answer: | I don't own the BL5 I own the BL3. I would endorse this mouthpiece for classical or jazz due to the rich warm sound it provides. You can of course create additional colors with your airstream. This mouthpiece along with the optimum ligature are a winning combination. |

Question: | Es para trombon fino o ancho en la entrada de el tubo del trombon |
Answer: | Excellent for the price! I recommend it! |
Question: | Will the mouthpiece fit kn in a tenor trombone or just an alto trombone |
Answer: | This mouthpiece is for an alto trombone and will not fit in a tenor trombone. |
Question: | How long can the hawk baritone horn last with good maintenance care |
Answer: | The valve guide's are cheap plastic, and once broken are virtually irreplaceable. Even with perfect maintenance, these parts wear fast. Our's lasted about a year, and once the guide broke, we and any shop we went to could not find a replacement, and we tried all major manufactures. |
Question: | Does the baritone horn play in the treble clef and use the exact same fingering chart as the trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn |
Answer: | It plays bass or treble depending on your preference or location and it is in Bb so I has the same fingerings as those instruments. |
Question: | My daughter plays the baritone in the school band is this going to work for her concert baritone |
Answer: | yes, this is a Concert Baritone Horn. |
Question: | Is this model full size or 3/4 size? One review mentions it is "smaller" and "more lightweight |
Answer: | It is the same pitch as an American Baritone horn or Euphonium. It is smaller bore and much lighter weight. So it is not a "3/4 size" of another kind of instrument, such as an American baritone/euphonium, but a completely different instrument of the same pitch. Much easier to hold up than the heavier/larger euphonium, and with a lighter tone. Fully useful for any standard baritone or euphonium band part, but with a lighter sound. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this ligature fit in a selmer s80 d mouthpiece? Thanks |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | Will this fit on the yamahah 5c standard beri sax mouthpiece with ease |
Answer: | There's a chance, but I am not sure. I have 4 Bari Mouthpieces and they are all different sizes, hence would take different Rovner ligatures. My Kessler is a jazz MP and is torpedo shaped. My Selmer 190 is fatter and produces a more controlled tone. Rovner supposedly has a chart for all their variations (rovnerproducts.com), but it's iffy. My Rousseau 6R MP came with a Rovner ligature on it so that of course guarantees a fit. Try getting in touch with Rovner directly. |
Question: | Does it fit to an otto link rubber mouthpiece |
Answer: | I don't know. It does fit to my original Yanigasawa mouthpiece, and gives a nice, mellow sound. Being a fabric, it molds quite well to the mouthpiece, so I'm thinking it will work on most standard sized mouthpieces. |
Question: | Is the cap included with the ligature |
Answer: | yes |
