User questions & answers

Question: How wide is the neck at the nut? I have short fingers and I need a narrow necked 12 string
Answer: I don’t think you’ll have an issue with it. It is narrower than some others that i have. 12 string ovation round back, a Taylor and Yamaha. I enjoy playing the Gretsch as it has a good sound and easy to tune with the built in tuner. By the way I have short fingers as well.
Question: Is it already tuned
Answer: They are factory tuned, but in some circumstances changes and variations in weather can cause slight on tuning of the guitars. A simple nine dollar Korg tuner can help you to keep the item in tune.
Question: what are the body specs, upper, lower bout, length, depth and what cases will work
Answer: The overall length is 43". Lower bout 17", upper 12 1/2", Body length 21", body depth 4 3/4". A Jumbo case will fit. Roxy Music has jumbo guitar cases from $99.00
Question: What is the radius
Answer: Widest is 17 inches. Depth is 5 inches. Length is a whopping 43.5 inches. If your looking for a case, the (crazy expensive) case Gretsch sent me specifically for this guitar BARELY accommodated the length and width. It’s gonna be hard to find a case big enough.

Question: What would be a good amp to match with this guitar for in Home play
Answer: To me it sounds best with a good clean amp. I've used it with a Hotrod Diville and it was good inn the clean chanel. However, my favorite with this is a solid state Holmes Mississippi Bluesmaster. This is a 100watt amp wit 4 10 inch speakers. The attack is instant and the speakers move enough air for the bottom to sound great. I was also impressed with an old Peavey tnt bass amp. My suggestion would be a solid state with at least a 12 inch speaker. The Peavey had a 15.

User questions & answers

Question: will this fit the g5022cwfe-12 rancher™ falcon jumbo 12-string cutaway
Answer: Yes it will. I purchased this case specifically for that guitar.
Question: I just bought a 6 string jumbo white falcon acoustic. i have seen info that i need the 12 string case to have clearance for the headstock. is that so
Answer: I think the jumbo hard case is more for the G5022CE it has a smaller headstock, the G5022cwfe has a bigger headstock that will fit better with the jumbo xl G6302. You can put your 6 string guitar inside the G6294 but it will fit strongly tight, do not like it, maybe with the time you can bend or damage the neck at the headstock.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between exp 16 and exp 16 3d strings
Answer: It means that its part of a three pack. Simple as that! So no difference in the product at all.
Question: Do the d'addario *coated* strings offer more resistance to *string bending* than the *non-coated* d'addario strings
Answer: The d'addario coated strings are heavier than the non-coated ones, although it is still custom lights which I find easier on the fingers than regular lights.
Question: I have a very bright sounding guitar that I want to warm up. How do these strings sound in the range of warmth vs. brightness? Suggestions please
Answer: I prefer the Phosphor Bronze to straight Bronze because they have a warmer sound with more bottom end and noticeably less brightness at the top. EXPs are the most natural sounding coated strings I've tried, as well.
Question: If you've tried the EXPs and their non-coated counterparts, have you noticed a difference? Are the EXPs a little less bright, a little warmer
Answer: Hi Jason- I play both types of strings. The coated strings are less bright but they stay fresher a little longer. For me, coated strings are less rough on my fingers when I play for a long time. I use coated phosphor bronze on my practice and jamming guitar. For performances, I like a fresh set of uncoated phosphor bronze strings because they're bright and metallic sounding. All the players I know prefer the D'Addario strings. Elixers sound a little thuddy and dull. Martin strings are not much better. The difference between phosphor bronze and 80/ 20 has to due with their composition of course. Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. 80/20 are 80% copper and 20% tin. Phosphor bronze are 92% copper, 8% tin, and a little phosphorus. The phosphorus keeps the strings from oxidizing. This way they sound better longer than 80/20 strings. For me, uncoated strings start to sound old after a couple of weeks. The coated strings sound good for about a month. It's all really subjective though. I know a guy who only changed a string when one breaks! Hope this info helps you out.

Product features

EXP NY Steel Pitch Stability

D'Addario EXP strings with NY Steel deliver the natural, vibrant sound of regular phosphor bronze and 80/20 bronze acoustic strings with an unparalleled pitch stability. EXP strings not only last substantially longer, but they hold their tune better than any competitor strings.

Elixir

Product description

Strum confidently with the same premium acoustic guitar strings that experienced players worldwide trust to keep their incredible tone longer than any other string available. Unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. Anti-Rust Plating on plain steel strings ensures longer tone life for the entire set. Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes? Engineered to endure, these acoustic strings constructed with phosphor bronze wrap wire boast a dynamic balance of rich, full-bodied tone and sparkling high-end clarity. Compared to our original POLYWEB Coating, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating allows a more traditionally textured, “uncoated” feel. For a slicker, gentler feel, try a set of strings with our original POLYWEB Coating. The 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with POLYWEB Coating, for example, might be a good fit if you want a more robust and rounded tone. On the other end of the tone spectrum, our 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating deliver a brighter, crisper tone alongside the same traditional feel as these phosphor bronze strings. Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Not sure what tone or feel is right for you? Try them out for yourself, and find your new favorite string from Elixir Strings. For a more in-depth look at what makes our strings so special, scroll to the branded info further down the page. User questions & answers

Question: Would you recommend this for a Taylor 816ce
Answer: This is a full set of 6 strings for acoustic guitar.
Question: how many strings are in the package
Answer: On the individual strings' paper packets, only the wound strings (G-3 through E-6) have "Nanoweb coating" text. The E-1 and B-2 strings say "anti-rust plain steel" instead.
Question: Are all 6 strings supposed to be bronze and nano coated, or are the E-1 and B-2 anti-rust plain steel
Answer: 80/20 is very bright and crisp... Phosphor bronze is far more articulate and warm. And over all a more balanced sound. Hence why they cost a bit more than 80/20. As for poly vs nano? Poly has more coating to protect the strings.. But dull the sound a bit. Nano has less coating but last a bit less than poly. Hope that helps.
Question: What is the difference in sound between an 80/20 and phosphor bronze please? And poly and nano web? Which is warmer, less bright
Answer: You can. You will need to do a neck adjustment to makeup for the lower tension. These strings are metal that the question was asked under.

Less Sweat, Debris, And Finger Squeak

The way your strings sound has a lot to do with what you normally can’t see. While both of our patented coatings reduce noisy finger squeak, they also cut down on a large number of other pesky annoyances common to your average uncoated string. Sweat, skin, dirt, and even air, for example, can do a lot of damage to your strings. And if you live in a hot, humid area, the moisture in the atmosphere can wreak total havoc on your strings’ tone life. But with Elixir Strings, you’re getting world-class protection that’s engineered to endure.

Polyweb Coating Vs NANOWEB Coating

POLYWEB Coating was our first coated string innovation all the way back in the '90s. It tends to warm and mellow the string’s tone and has a fast, slick feel that’s gentle on the fingers, which lets players keep jamming without the strings getting in the way. As a response to players who said they prefer a more traditional feel, NANOWEB Coating was then designed. This ultra-thin coating allows a brighter, crisper tone while offering the same amount of tone-life protection as its predecessor.

Coated Like No Other

Unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. That’s why Elixir strings retain their tone longer than any other brand’s string, coated or uncoated. Simply put, build-up and corrosion kill your tone, and Elixir strings protect against elements that cause build-up and corrosion. All while sounding exactly how you’d expect a premium set of strings to sound.

Anti-Rust Plating

Corrosion protection between wrap wire windings is all well and good, but you may be asking yourself, 'What about the strings that don’t have a wrap wire?' And we’re proud to tell you, don’t worry—we’ve got those covered too. Literally. With our signature Anti-Rust Plating, even your plain steel strings defy the elements. This ensures longer tone life not just for your coated wound strings, but for your entire set. When we say you’ll have more gigging, jamming, touring, or practice time between string changes, we mean it.

User questions & answers

Question: Wait a second, the title for the item is flattened, the description page says roundwound, and one of the answers says they are halfwound. Which is it
Answer: I only play fingerstyle, and I play blues, jazz, pop...I LOVE these strings. If you're not plugged in you may notice a little less volume. Nothing drastic. They sound a bit more "warm." Slides are sweet. They're not that expensive. (I have used another brand that cost something like $30. They are a little nicer, but I can't afford that luxury all the time.) Try a set. Your fingers will thank you.
Question: Anyone using these for fingerstyle blues? What do you think of them
Answer: I struggle with growing degenerative arthritis, and have to go to lighter and lighter strings. I have 10-52 D'Addario electric strings on one acoustic that are lighter than the 10-47 Flat Tops on my other, which feel much stiffer and are louder and fuller.
Question: My old fingers cant manage heavier gage strings anymore. anybody happy with "extra lights" 10-47's ? is the ease of play worth the loss in tone
Answer: It would be pretty risky unless you tune down at least one full step. Heavy strings can do serious damage to your guitar if it wasn't built to handle them. It would probably be fine for a while but eventually your neck might start to bow which is no big deal if you have a truss rod, but they could also pull your bridge off or even worse cause the whole top of your guitar to belly up. If you want bigger strings for a better slide sound I've always used a standard medium set but swapped the 13 for a 15 or 16. The hi e is really the only one you need to be bigger.
Question: Are the resophonic gauge strings too heavy for dreadnought bodied acoustics
Answer: I have a 614ce and these are perfect! The custom lights (.11) are also acceptable but you may lose some volume, still they sound good. I would play around with gauges and get the best feel and sound for you! Taylors are high class!
