12 best ukulele pickup

A ukulele pickup is an electronic device designed to capture and amplify the sound of a ukulele, allowing it to be connected to an amplifier or a sound system. This is especially useful for live performances and recording sessions when you want to project the sound of the ukulele to a larger audience or capture it electronically. Here's what you need to know about ukulele pickups:

  1. Types of Ukulele Pickups:

    • Piezo Pickups: These are commonly used in ukuleles.Piezo pickups work by converting the mechanical vibrations of the ukulele's strings into electrical signals. They are typically installed under the saddle or bridge of the ukulele and provide a clear and natural sound reproduction.

    • Soundhole Pickups: These pickups are installed in the soundhole of the ukulele. They are easier to install and remove, making them a good choice for those who want a temporary pickup solution.

    • Internal Microphone Pickups: Some ukulele pickups use tiny microphones placed inside the ukulele to capture the acoustic sound. These can provide a warm and natural tone but may be more susceptible to feedback.

  2. Installation: Installing a ukulele pickup usually involves some modifications to the instrument, which may require the assistance of a skilled technician or luthier. Piezo pickups are often installed under the saddle, while soundhole pickups are simply placed in the soundhole.

  3. Output Options: Ukulele pickups typically have a standard 1/4-inch output jack, allowing you to connect your ukulele to an amplifier, mixer, or other audio equipment.

  4. Preamps: Some ukulele pickups come with built-in preamps. Preamps can help shape and enhance the sound of your ukulele before it reaches the amplifier, offering control over volume, tone, and sometimes even onboard tuners.

  5. Feedback: Feedback can be an issue with ukulele pickups, especially in high-volume settings. Feedback occurs when the amplified sound from the speakers is picked up by the ukulele's pickup and creates a loop. Using feedback suppressors or soundhole covers can help mitigate this issue.

  6. Compatibility: When choosing a ukulele pickup, make sure it is compatible with your specific ukulele model and size, as there are different ukulele sizes (soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone) and pickup designs.

  7. Sound Quality: The sound quality produced by a ukulele pickup can vary depending on the type and quality of the pickup, as well as the connected amplification equipment. It's essential to choose a pickup that suits your desired sound and playing style.

Ukulele pickups are valuable tools for ukulele players who want to amplify their instrument's sound for performances or recordings. They come in various types and designs, so selecting the right pickup for your ukulele and musical preferences is crucial to achieving the desired sound quality.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this pick up sound through a wall
Answer: The cord is not white, it is a tan color to match the tan color drip style candle. There is an on/off switch on the cord for convenience.
Question: What is the size of the microphone? I'm looking for one small enough to use on a jaw harp
Answer: I bought this light back in March 2017. I only use it for night light that I burn 8 hrs every night since I have owned it. I am still burning the same bulb that came with the candle. Not sure how long the light will last but I'm sure for quite some time. The bulbs burn at such a low wattage that the bulbs should last for quite sometime.
Question: I bought these to experiment with students to hear underwater sounds. What do think my chances will be
Answer: I can't answer the question regarding this specific candle. For candles to be on 24/7, I would use a battery operated one. I just feel battery operated candles are more safe if kept on for long periods of time.
Question: How big is the pickup itself
Answer: Yes, you can use a regular 7 Watt bulb (like you'd use in a nightlight or Christmas tree light string). The candle flame light bulb isn't bright enough to light up a room. I use mine on the top of a book shelf, strictly for decorative purposes. It casts a soft glow around the candle stick, but you wouldn't be able to use it to read by.

User questions & answers

Question: How does it turn on? (Or is mine defective
Answer: is your volume on the pickup turned up? is it plugged in correctly? you should be able to tap on it and hear the noise through the amp.
Question: Will this work if I stick it on the composite side (back) of my Ovation
Answer: It will stick to your forehead, if you place it there, but the sound quality will suffer if you do that. Seriously though, before you stick it anywhere, hold it in different places on your guitar with it plugged into the amp so you can choose a location that produces the best tone. I had one of the original Ovations, so I am familiar with their construction. I can't predict the best spot. You just have to try it before you stick it. BTW: The plug end that goes into the transducer is a small jack vs the standar 1/4" jack that plugs into the amp. (BTW, they send a bunch of stuff you don't need)
Question: How long is the cable provided
Answer: According to the details it's 3 meters. Kind of short if you're using it to perform and need to be able to move around. Perfect if being used by the amp to practice.
Question: So does this stick to the outside of the guitar/uke/banjo
Answer: Yes but it is easily removed. As a side note, it is extremely sound sensitive. As a result, I wound up putting 3 layers of stickers on it to deaden it a bit. You need to play around with different locations on your instrument.

Question: Any tips for the best way to install this in an already built acoustic cigar box guitar with two small scroll shaped soundholes
Answer: No! I did not want to take my strings off when applying the decals so I cut the decal so that it was easier to apply to each fret under the strings. It took a little more time, but it has held up perfectly fine.
Question: Would this work for a soprano ukulele
Answer: Thank you for your interested in our products. It not fit with 23" scale. We recommended for you choose a type of guitar.
Question: does it sound electric and not acoustic at all
