User questions & answers

Question: Is there a tenor or bass version of this
Answer: I use the alto head on a concert flute body to give me the richer tone of the recorder and the versatility of the flutes keys. RecorderFlute?
Question: What key is this in? B flat or E flat
Answer: I don't know if there is any difference from a musical standpoint. The finish is different (312 is a rosewood finish and 314 is an ebony finish). Other than that, I believe they are the same. However, I will say that they Yamaha alto recorder gives a nice sound.
Question: I purchased this item on december 3, 2017. now it is april 17, 2018, and it hasn't shipped. when will i get this item
Answer: The other answers are incorrect. There are indeed altos made in different keys. Your choices are F and G, both either in A-440 or A-415. Plastic alto recorders are only made in F at A-440. There is set to be released, however, an A-415 plastic alto by Zen-on later this year.
Question: What kind of reed does it use
Answer: Hi! They are both exactly the SAME DESIGN - the only difference being the finish in the 312B sporting a synthetic woodgrain look (either the walnut or other 314B). Interesting enough, although the difference is by having just a layer of something wrapped or sealed into the resin, it's widespread knowledge that somehow the 312B and 314B with the synthetic woodgrain finish ACTUALLY sound better.I forget what the material is made of but if you touch a 302 and a 312/314, you will feel that the latter is cooler to the touch AKIN some metal low conductivity metal. But do not quote me on this.

The fingering of the Venova is similar to a standard recorder, so it's simple to learn the notes even for beginners.

Durable and easy to clean

The tough ABS plastic body is strong enough to hit the road but durable enough to wash with water.

Yamaha YAC-1094P Powder Paper for wind & woodwind musical instruments

Yamaha

Based on 175 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Yamaha yac-1094p powder paper.

  • Yamaha yac-1094p powder paper

User questions & answers

Question: Are powdered paper better for clarinet pads then conventional cleaning paper? Thank you
Answer: It has always worked for me. I didn't know any other paper existed. Use a piece one time and then get rid of it.
Question: What's the difference between the cleaning paper and this powder paper? Does one last longer
Answer: On the powdered paper, special powder stays behind to make pads less sticky. Yamaha powdered pad paper is treated with a specially designed powder that helps prevent pads from getting sticky during regular use. Regards
Question: How many sheets does it have
Answer: 50 Sheets. I cut them in 1/3rds for flute pads instead of using a whole sheet. I cut them in 1/2 for bigger sax pads, so you can get a lot of use out of the 50 sheets.

User questions & answers

Question: Where is this made
Answer: The instrument is made in Indonesia and the little carrying bag case is made in India. Yamaha is a very durable brand.
Question: the description states it is made in the US, but what does the packaging say
Answer: made in Indonesia
Question: does it come with case
Answer: It comes with a cloth draw string bag.
Question: has anyone compared this with the Yamaha YRS24B series ivory-colored models? Is this exactly the same, or different in feel and tone
Answer: I teach a recorder class for high school students and we have about 20 models of the ivory recorders and about 15 of the colorful 20BG recorders. For whatever reason, the coloful models do seem to speak a little bit more easily, but both set the bar fairly high for plastic recorders-- way better than any of the other models we've purchased, including the more expensive brown and beige 302B Yamaha model (which looks great, but is quiet and does not hit the low notes as easily as this model.)

Product features

Start with great sound

Yamaha has been building musical instruments for more than 130 years, so we know what it takes to make a great sound. Our 20-series models produce a classic recorder tone that's pure and in tune across the whole instrument.

Easy for beginners

20-series recorders make it easy to play right from the start. The rectangular airway gives very little resistance, so even a light breath can make a clear note. A great choice for classrooms or beginners of any age!

Durable and safe

Made from the same kind of plastic used in countless popular toys, Yamaha 20-series recorders are built to last for years of reliable use. They can even be washed with soap and water, so keeping them clean is easy.

Colorful choices

Our see-through blue, green and pink models are playful, but produce the same great sound as our standard ivory colored models. Have fun with your music without sacrificing your tone.

Baroque vs German fingering - what's the difference?

The basic design of recorders was developed hundreds of years ago during the Baroque music period of the 1600's and early 1700's. This classical style is still preferred by many music teachers and schools, mostly because some specific notes play a little better in tune with this design.

In the 1920's, instrument designers in Germany felt that the standard Baroque recorder was too difficult for beginners to learn, since some notes put the player’s fingers in positions that can feel uncomfortable. Because of this, they made a small change to make those notes easier for a beginner to play. However, there's a trade-off – while the finger positions are easier, those same notes are harder to play in tune.

You can tell which version you have by looking at the 4th and 5th holes down from the top. If the 4th hole is smaller than the 5th, it's Baroque. If the 4th hole is larger, it's German. If you need a recorder to use in school, check with your teacher to make sure you get the right type!

Yamaha YRA-314B Alto Recorder, simulated Ebony finish, Key of F

Yamaha

Based on 69 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Like all Yamaha 300-series recorders, the YRA-314B alto recorder in the key of F is a step-up instrument designed for advanced players. Based on the famous Rottenburgh body design, this recorder has an arched windway to produce a slight resistance that gives you better breath control and allows you to play with more expression.

  • 3 piece alto recorder in the key of F
  • Made from durable and long-lasting ABS plastic
  • Arched windway gives experienced players more control
  • Simulated Ebony finish gives the appearance of a wood grain texture

User questions & answers

Question: what is the pitch of this instrument? A440, A
Answer: A440. All of Yamaha's recorders are A440 as far as I'm aware.
Question: Does the Ebony finish appear as almost black or does it show wood grain
Answer: The one I received is a definite wood grain pattern with medium brown and dark brown faux wood grain appearance (not a solid color as it looks here).
Question: Is the b above the thumbhole a block letter or cursive letter? i have two yamahas, but i've forgotten which model number goes with each
Answer: The one I received is in cursive.
Question: What is the difference between this and the yra-302b model
Answer: Just the material. The 312 and 314 are the 302 model with a different finish - rosewood and ebony, respectively.

Product features

Start with great sound

Yamaha has been building musical instruments for more than 130 years, so we know what it takes to make a great sound. Our alto recorders produce a classic tone that's pure and in tune across the whole instrument.

Models for every player

Whether you're experienced or a beginner, there's a model for you. The YRA-28B is intended for beginners with a design that makes it easy to produce a sound. The 300 and 400 series models give advanced players more control over their tone.

Durable and safe

Yamaha plastic recorders are built to last for years of reliable use. All models are BPA-free and meet strict international safety standards. They can even be washed with regular soap and water, so keeping them clean is easy.

Choose your finish

Want the durability of plastic but the look of wood? The YRA-312B and YRA-314B have simulated wood-grain exteriors that look remarkably like real rosewood or ebony. For something different, the YRA-402B has a unique goldenrod color that really stands out.

What's in a Windway?

The windway is the opening at the top of a recorder that you blow into. The shape of this opening is very important to the way the recorder plays and feels. Yamaha offers two different styles:

  • A straight windway is easy to play with very light air, and produces a soft and pure tone. This is typically preferred for beginners, and is found on the YRA-28B.
  • An arched windway gives more blowing resistance than a straight windway. This added resistance gives more experienced players better breath control which allows greater tonal expression and projection. Yamaha 300 and 400 series alto recorders use arched windways.

  • 73 preset voices
  • Dedicated app for further customization
  • Headphone, AUX in, and micro USB connections

User questions & answers

Question: Does this instrument have a purchase guarantee
Answer: You can register with Yamaha easily.
Question: What is it like to clean this
Answer: The manual recommends to remove, wash, and dry the mouthpiece after each playing (which, just like on the real saxophones I own, I do not actually do). To answer your question, there is a plastic tube (like an aquarium air hose) running from the mouthpiece end of the horn down to the bell, and that is where the saliva drains, very similar to a regular soprano sax.
Question: Sometimes my yds would stuck on a note. when i try to go from e to d, it would stuck on e. nothing happens when i press my ring finger, anyone else
Answer: 1/20/2021: Still waiting for my YDS via overseas mail1
Question: Do the keys require the same amount of pressure to push down as a standard tenor sax
Answer: The pressure required is a bit less, but still not too far off from playing a real sax. Of course the size of the horn is closer to a soprano, so the spacing is not the same as a tenor. I would liken it to the difference between a real piano and a weighted keyboard, i.e. similar enough to be a helpful practice tool, but it is not quite the same.

Product description

Yamaha 5C Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece The Yamaha YAC-12874 5C Alto Sax mouthpiece provides a somewhat richer tone with greater variety of colors than 4C in addition to excellent flexibility and response

  • Model: YAC1287
  • Tip opening: 1.7
  • Facing length (in mm): 23
  • 5C

User questions & answers

Question: Does this work on a Mendini Saxophone
Answer: It works on any standard alto sax. You will also need a ligature , cap and reeds
Question: with the 5c mouthpiece fit a Vandoren strength 3 reed
Answer: Tip opening of Yamaha alto 5C mouthpiece is narrow (around 1.7mm), good for saxophone beginner . Strength 3 reed may be a little hard for beginner. I would recommend 2.5 for beginner. For intermediate player, I would recommend bigger tip opening (around 2), and 2.5 strength reed. 3 reed is, of course, playable if your breath is strong and accurate on the reed center
Question: does this fit a standard beginners yamaha alto sax
Answer: The Yamaha saxes are very similar in neck diameter. There is some difference between brands, but most mouthpieces fit nicely. So, yes. If it's a bit loose, you can replace the cork on the neck pretty easily. If you are a beginner, you may want to start with a 4C, it has less gap and is easier on the chops. I keep several of those for softer situations, I use the 5C for solo or band gigs where I need more volume...or even a larger gapped mouthpiece...
Question: Does this come with a cap
Answer: No cap. Just the Mouth Piece. Good sounding Mouthpiece for the price
