12 best piano amplifiers
Piano amplifiers, also known as keyboard amplifiers or stage pianos, are specialized amplification systems designed to enhance the sound of electronic keyboards and digital pianos. These amplifiers are a crucial component for musicians who need to project their keyboard's sound in live performances or studio recordings. Here's what you need to know about piano amplifiers:
Purpose: Piano amplifiers are used to amplify the sound of electronic keyboards and digital pianos.Unlike acoustic pianos, electronic keyboards produce a line-level output that needs amplification to be heard clearly in larger venues.
Sound Quality: Piano amplifiers are engineered to faithfully reproduce the full range of keyboard sounds, from deep bass tones to high-frequency notes, while maintaining clarity and accuracy.
Amplification Power: These amplifiers come in various power ratings, typically measured in watts. The choice of amplifier power depends on the size of the venue and the specific needs of the musician. Smaller amplifiers may suffice for practice or small gigs, while larger venues require higher-powered systems.
Inputs and Outputs: Piano amplifiers typically have multiple input channels to accommodate various keyboard setups. They also offer outputs for connecting to external PA systems or other amplifiers. Some models may include additional features like built-in effects or equalization.
Portability: Many piano amplifiers are designed to be portable, with handles and sometimes wheels for ease of transport. This portability is especially important for gigging musicians.
Durability: Given the demands of live performances, piano amplifiers are built to withstand wear and tear. They often feature sturdy construction and protective coverings.
Tone Shaping: Some piano amplifiers include onboard equalization controls, allowing musicians to fine-tune the tone to their preferences. This is particularly useful for achieving the desired sound in different performance environments.
Brands and Models: Several manufacturers produce piano amplifiers, with well-known brands like Roland, Yamaha, Korg, and Behringer offering a variety of models to suit different needs and budgets.
Compatibility: It's essential to ensure compatibility between your keyboard and the amplifier. Some keyboards may require specific connections or have different output options, so double-check compatibility before making a purchase.
Use in Different Settings: Piano amplifiers are used not only on stage but also in recording studios and rehearsal spaces. They are versatile tools for achieving the right sound in various musical contexts.
In summary, piano amplifiers are specialized amplification systems designed to enhance the sound of electronic keyboards and digital pianos. They are essential tools for musicians who perform live or need to project their keyboard's sound in various settings, providing clear and accurate sound reproduction with options for tone shaping and versatility.

User questions & answers
Question: | Anything of same quality but smaller in size? Bought one without realizing the size and weight. Looking for something for practice and jamup with |
Answer: | Yes, you can use a mic with this amp. |
Question: | How is the driver improved? is it a servo speaker? im interested in response and snr |
Answer: | Yes, the adapter has about a 4-6 foot long AC power plug, and about 10 feet of low voltage DC cable to the speaker cabinet. I bought two matching units, one for each channel of my Nord Grand piano. I love them! At about 25% power to the amps, gain way down on the Nord, it sounds so much like a big grand harp/string piano. Can shut my eyes and am sitting behind my mother's Kimball from my childhood... lots of room/power left to play to a bigger venue also. |
Question: | Is this a Stereo amp |
Answer: | The AMP has three pre-amps, gains and input jacks, however it only has one power amp/master output, so it would "squish" Stereo into mono. I bought two of these amps and use them with a Nord Stage Grand, one left, one right channel. At approximately 25% of full power with the two amps, it is at least as loud as an acoustic string/harp Grand like a Kimball or White. If you have a stereo instrument, like a piano, best to get two amps and use them as a pair if you want the spacial quality of stereo, like in acoustic performance settings. If you are only looking for a monitor amp and intend to feed into a large PA, then one might work fine. |
Question: | Is the 100W amp loud enough for live rock-n-roll (keys, guitar, bass, drums, vox) in small to medium sized clubs |
Answer: | Weighs around 50LB Approx 2' X 2' X 1.5' makes it easy to travel with. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would this amp power external stereo speakers |
Answer: | you can use a monitor with it and a sub woofer, but I have never tried using external passive speakers. |
Question: | How is the sound at low volume? does it have wheels |
Answer: | Hello Rich, No wheels, lies flat on the floor. Quite heavy, so it stays in my basement music room. I think it sounds good at low volume, but that is rather subjective. Also, I was originally playing through a Fender Princeton Chorus guitar amp, which really isn't made for keyboards. By the way, my keyboard is a Roland Juno-88. I hope this helps. |
Question: | Can this handle a bass with a low b string |
Answer: | I am using it with a Hammond SK2 keyboard. When I hit the lower keys it plays loud enough for our bass player to turn around and look so depending on how loud you play, I'm guessing it would do the job |
Question: | Is there an insert hole on the bottom of the amp for a pole mount stand? in particular, is this speaker compatible with roland's st-a95 amp stand |
Answer: | I don't know about Roland's stands but there is no hole in the bottom. This is a heavy amp so I wouldn't do that. It's a great keyboard amp. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What kind of power supply does this use? Can I plug into the wall or does it take batteries? I'm not very familiar with amplifiers, thanks |
Answer: | Documentation does not say, not on the box either. Coverage area indicates it is 2.4. Works very well I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck. |
Question: | Would this be good for Karaoke (I have a Karaoke Mixer) or for connecting to a Projector to boost the sound |
Answer: | It depends on the dealer's policy. |
Question: | Does it come with a wire |
Answer: | Just received the DWS-3 system today on recommendations from numerous reviews and forums. Plugged it in using my Warwick Thumb 5-string and GK mb500. No discernible difference from using a standard cable. Handled the low B string just fine. I’m confident it will do fine at gig this weekend with GK+SWR Goliath III cab. |
Question: | Can this amp used for violin? Does it has speakers |
Answer: | As it is I found that mine did also , after research for a few minutes I found that it was my input jack on the guitar . Don’t know if this helps but I cleaned mine with a burst of compressed air and it helped but ultimately I changed the jack out for a new one and I now have crisp and clear sound . |
