Answer: As long as the Capacitor is discharged, yes than you can measure it's value in 15 pf. AK

Answer: No. This meter is for one test only - ESR of a capacitor. It does not perform any other tests.
Question: Is there a way to confirm it's v2 with sine wave and not v
Answer: In the description on my order it is listed as V2. On a scope, with the meter open circuit, the test waveform is a rounded square wave. When connected to a 100 ohm resistor, the waveform is more of a triangle wave. When connected to a capacitor, it is somewhere between a triangle and a sine wave.
Question: Does this come with an instruction or user manual of sorts
Answer: A small (pocket size) instruction booklet is included. I was not impressed with the MESR100 V2. My opinion of this product, it is a toy tester, the cables are much too short. I was dragging the tester all over the circuit board trying to get readings because of the (WAY TOO SHORT CABLES.) I 1st used it on a sound bar that was not working which has several electrolytic caps. Some had bulging tops, yet the tester indicated every caps was within specs. I also tested some electrolytic caps in a electronic siren (also not working) and the same results. I also tested other non working products, again the same results. ***I highly suggest you save your money and get a well known brand***.Hope this helps you.

Question: Does this product reliably mesure small capacitances (<50pF) and small Inductances (<1uH
Answer: I would suggest constructing a set of kelvin clips (there are many youtube links about this) for measuring capacitances and inductances this small.
Question: Does it currently (as of today April 25 2018) come with power adapter too? or may be currently as a gift or something
Answer: The power adapter is sold separately. I got mine on eBay. Just search DE5000 Adapter and it'll be there.

Answer: lowest range is 20.000 uH so it will measure down to 0.001 uH at 2.5% 100KHz
Question: Does it test capacitors in circuit as well as out of circuit like the atlas esr70 does
Answer: It can, but like any tester, it will be affected by connected components. ESR test is usually pretty reliable in-circuit as it sends 100kHz (or whatever frequency you pick from the selection) and the impedance of a good cap will be low - 1-2 ohms typically so parallel components should not show up. Capacitance may not be, depends as it will measure all capacitance in-circuit across the node (across the capacitor). Large electrolytics may test close enough, small caps probably not. The other tests, Q, leakage, etc are not in-circuit tests.

Answer: I do not own an mesr-100. I don’t use this device to test capacitors in-circuit, I use my de-5000, which has been very accurate for me.

Answer: This meter is fairly good at giving a ballpark answer about ESR. There is a video review of an older, cheapie version of this meter (an open source project), done by Dave of EEVblog, titled "Is a $7 LCR Meter / Component Tester from Ebay any good?" The description says, "Dave tests the M328 (LCR-T4) model component tester." and can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Br3L1B80ow In the review, you will see Dave actually testing components, and even commenting on the fact that some ESR readings seem on, and other ESR readings are not so much on target. But the real utility in this meter is for quick sorting of resistors and other components in putting kits together, collecting unknown parts from junk electronics and then using them, and this meter does a pretty good job of quickly identifying all kinds of parts, especially which pin is which, so this meter is really, really good at answering the question, "what in the world is this thing?" and also "will I insert it correctly?" and also "what is it, and is it working?". Watch the video, and it will answer your question pretty well. Is this a true ESR meter? Fair to middlin'. Should you buy it? It's very useful. So, definitely buy it, in my opinion. I am about to buy a few, but of different kinds, and for different reasons, actually. Just make sure you discharge capacitors before testing them, and that may be why I actually choose this meter over many of the others... ...it helps you to remember to discharge capacitors by having, on the front panel, a built-in place clearly-labeled where you can discharge your capacitors before measuring them. That's over and above the effort that the other cloners have put into making their versions. Just make sure, if it's a high energy capacitor (high voltage and/or high capacitance), then discharge it with safety glasses on and a big, beefy screwdriver (actually fun, but not to do around combustibles, you know, at least not without the fire extinguisher -- you DO have a fire extinguisher, don't you, and it is fully charged and up-to-date on it's inspections, right ;-). And, to finally sort of answer your unasked question, yeah, I really don't want to have to buy a real ESR meter that costs hundreds of dollars either! ;-) Perhaps someone will contribute to the open source project and bring these little component testers to the next level. If you benefit from open source, you may just consider giving back, as I am trying to do (yes, it's hard, with life and all, but we will all be just a little better if we all help a little -- I've seen a group of people lift a car when they had to.) Every measurement of ESR will be shown on the display as usual, but the unit will also produce a variety of tones depending on the value of ESR. , including “Bell-like” pings for nominal ESR values and a “Beep-Barp” type tone for ESR that is likely to be too high. This remarkably fine resolution is great for assessing large capacitors and even allows you to use the Atlas ESR70 for tracing short-circuits and finding the precise area of a PCB that has that invisible wisp of solder. Great Service Aid Measuring a capacitor's ESR (equivalent series resistance) is a great indicator of capacitor condition. The Atlas ESR70 offers instant results, just connect the probes and press test. You can even use the Atlas ESR70 in-circuit, saving you the trouble of removing capacitors. When testing capacitors out-of-circuit, the unit will also display the capacitance to 0.2uF resolution. ESR can be a tricky thing to measure, which is a shame, it's a very useful diagnostic parameter. Answer: As others have mentioned, it can test those capacitors if they are in their discharged state.The manufacturers specs say - it can auto discharge up to +/- 50v and for a cap that is less than 10uF the absolute maximum it can withstand is +/- 275v, over 10uF that is +/- 50v

Answer: The unit has an alligator clip on each lead. This is a great little piece of test equipment. I was checking the caps in my old HP 1710A O-scope and it found three bad ones. When I unsoldered the cans from the circuit board I could see where the electrolite was pushing out of each one. I really like this thing. Highly recommend it.

Question: will it tell me the pin identification
Answer: With in reason. You will need the spec sheet, say you have a bad unit, it may identify it as two diodes and you know it is not two diodes, it is a 222. So YES it will / it has done it correctly for me on good devices, on devices that fail, it may show unknown device or something like a mess of diodes or something else. Nothing the spec sheet would show. hope this helps. I also use a Heathkit transistor tester so I can supply a load. If you are working with hard to replace /find items, I suggest you also get something that will supply a real load so you can see if it breaks down after 2 minutes or something like that. hope this helps, I am pleased with cost vs use I have gotten. SO far so good. Get used to getting the pins in 1 2 3 any way, but 1,2,3. George
Question: I am trying to measure a inductor and it keeps coming back with a resistance. How do I fix this
Answer: I found out that the tester can’t measure inductance below 10uH. It helps to buy a pack of inductors of various values to always check the tester. This is how I found out that mine cant’ measure inductors below 10uH.
Question: will this tester work with germanium transistors? also, does it report transistor leakage
Answer: I haven't found a germanium transistor to test yet, but I have tested Ge small-signal diodes with mine, so I'm fairly certain this tester can properly identify and test Ge teansistors as well. If so, it will show the device type (PNP/NPN), ID the leads (BCE), and show the hfe (gain), but it will not show a leakage current value. The primary diference between Ge and Si devices is the difference in the voltage drop across a forward-biased junction. Ge junctions show a 0.3 - 0.4v drop, and Si junctions show 0.6 - 0.7v.
Question: Can it be powered with a cable
Answer: I did a simple mod in order to power it from a basic 9vdc power supply l. I simply installed a standard 12mm polarised jack into the case (theres a slot in the top center of the pcb to allow room) and use a currwnt limited wall wart or bench top piwer supply for the required 9 volts (solder the 2 wires from the jack to the battery terminal connections on the pcb matching polarity). Mine has worked a charm and no worries plus you have the option of using either power source. If you would like to know more on this mod reply and I will supply you with a more detailed step by step with photos.

Question: how to test smd components with the tester
Answer: As smd components are so small I don't think you could check them with this tester.
Question: How do i make it read out the esr value when measuring capacitors
Answer: It should show it automatically. Mine shows the 'capacitance', 'ESR' and 'Vloss'. Mine shows all 3 readings on the same screen. You have to plug component into holes (1 & 2) or (2 & 3) or (1 & 3).
Question: Can it check jfets
Answer: My tester is about a year old so I am sure the new ones have a newer software than mine but I dug out a few JFETs from my parts bin and put them to the test and it seems to check them ok.

Answer: I am sitting here looking at my unit and it does not show a software version when it is turned on. I got this one about 6 months ago. May be some changes and newer units may show the software version but mine don't.

My guess is that battery usage would be similar to that of a typical ohm meter. I am extremely happy with the purchase. It quickly determines the good or bad status of caps and would recommend its purchase. It will be worth the price the first time you diagnose a clean looking cap that is in fact internally damaged.
