10 best thread locking inserts
Thread locking inserts, often referred to as threaded inserts or helical inserts, are essential components in the field of fasteners and industrial manufacturing. These inserts are used to reinforce and strengthen threads in various materials, such as metal, plastic, or composite materials. They serve several important functions:
Thread Reinforcement: Threaded inserts are often used in situations where the parent material is not strong enough to hold threads securely. By adding an insert, the threads are reinforced, providing a more robust and reliable connection.
Vibration Resistance: One of the primary purposes of thread locking inserts is to resist vibrations and prevent threaded fasteners from loosening over time. This is crucial in industries like automotive and aerospace, where the integrity of connections is critical.
Corrosion Resistance: Some threaded inserts are made from materials like stainless steel or coated with anti-corrosion substances to ensure long-lasting performance, especially in outdoor or corrosive environments.
Heat Resistance: Thread locking inserts can be designed to withstand high temperatures, making them suitable for applications in industries like manufacturing and machinery, where heat resistance is essential.
Easy Repair: In cases where threads are damaged or stripped, threaded inserts can be used to restore functionality without the need for more extensive repairs or replacing the entire component.
Enhanced Load-Bearing Capacity: Threaded inserts can improve the load-bearing capacity of the threaded joint, allowing it to withstand higher forces without failure.
Thread locking inserts come in various shapes, sizes, and designs to accommodate different applications. Some common types include:
Helicoil Inserts: These are coiled wire inserts that are inserted into a pre-drilled hole. When a bolt or screw is threaded into the insert, it provides a strong and reliable connection.
Keenserts or Key-Locking Inserts: These inserts have external threads with keys or serrations that lock into the parent material, providing excellent resistance against vibration and torque.
Tangless Inserts: Tangless inserts, like helicoils, provide thread reinforcement but do not have the tang or tang break-off feature found in traditional helicoil inserts.
Self-Tapping Inserts: These threaded inserts have a self-tapping design, allowing them to be installed directly into a hole without the need for pre-tapping.
Thread locking inserts are commonly used in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, construction, and more. They are a valuable tool for ensuring the reliability and longevity of threaded connections in a wide range of applications.

User questions & answers
Question: | i have a small dewalt D55151 2 gallon 150 PSI max compressor. Will this work to peel some old rustic shack and bring it to smooth baby surface |
Answer: | No but I do bodywork with mine, it should work for wood and varnish with the correct sandpaper. |
Question: | I’m collecting tools to repaint my own truck. Would this be a good sander for preping the body for paint |
Answer: | It comes with pas, but through auto-body paint stores, or auto-body shop material suppliers, you can order a hook and loop pad if you wanted to. I did, because the shop I work in only supplies hook and loop paper. My wife bought this for me last Christmas, and it is still working great, I use this often as I am in the auto-body industry. |
Question: | I am sanding raw wood as well as between coats of catalyzed conversion varnish on large conference tables. Anyone tried similar with this tool |
Answer: | It doesn't have the ability to become a free-standing holder--it must be mounted to the sink using the suction cup. |
Question: | Does this come with pas or hook n loop. thanks in adv |
Answer: | No, that product simple doesn't work at all! |

E-Z LOK threaded inserts for metal provide an easy to use solution for repairing or reinforcing threaded holes in metal. Ideal for use in metals like aluminum and cast iron, E-Z LOK threaded inserts are screw machined out of solid steel for greater strength and superior pull out resistance. Standard external threads permit the use of standard drills and taps for installation. Once the hole is prepared, E-Z LOKs are threaded into the hole like an ordinary fastener using a screwdriver, bolt and jam nut, or optional E-Z LOK drive tool. E-Z LOKs are self locking and will not back out or vibrate loose. A preapplied adhesive activates upon installation and bonds to virtually all metals. Fastener-ready in minutes, the adhesive seals against liquids and gases to pressures of 6,000 psi. when fully cured (72 hours).
- Easy to Use Solution For Repairing Damaged Threads in Metal
- Install With Standard Drill & Tap; NO Special Tools Needed
- Self Locking; Preapplied Adhesive Activates Upon Installation and is Fastener-Ready in 3-5 Minutes
- Corrosion Resistant
- Ideal For Soft Metals Like Aluminum, Cast Iron, or Magnesium

Product Description
Key locking inserts provide high strength and reliability and are designed to provide high resistance to rotation and pullout loads. After installation into the tapped hole, the keysert on each key locking inserts are driven down through the threads of the parent material, locking the insert firmly and permanently in place.Application
Can be used in virtually any material including aluminum, cast iron, steel, plastics.Category:
Thinwall;Heavy wall; Extra Heavy Duty;Solid InsertMaterials & Finishes:
Materials : carbon steel, stainless steelFinishes : cadmium plate, dry film lubricant
As a kind of thread repairing method, the keysert can quickly and effectively repair the damaged thread; key locking screw insert is used on low-strength materials, which can greatly enhance the strength of the threaded hole
Key locking thread insert is a fastener that has the screw both the internal and external wall.It is mainly used in some areas, such as: aircraft,Vibration machinery,Military industry and other industry with high thread strength .
Installation
1.Drill out old threads with a standard drill.Note: Drill is oversized see charts for proper dimensions. Chamfer the hole with a standard countersink(82° -100° )2.Tap new thread with a standard tap. See charts for proper size and depth.
3.Screw in the insert until slightly below surface.
4.Drive keys down with several hammer taps on the proper installation tool.
- Keysert is easy to use and easy to install and operate, the keysert installation tool is no special required.
- Key Locking thread insert can effectively repair broken threads.
- Keensert is especially suitable for environments requiring high-strength internal threads, which are highly resistant to shock and pull.
- KEYSERT is more common than the ordinary stainless steel wire screw sleeve, which can make the thread hole strength more effective.
- Positive mechanical lock eliminates wind out in service.

Question: | On the pkg that the 5/16-18 e-z lok insterts come in, it says to use a size "x" drill (this if for a 7/16-14 tap hole, but drill should be "u |
Answer: | It is a longer lasting thread for use in soft metals. Like clean outs and access panels where you remove the fasteners often.... And if the threads get bad, you can replace this insert in minutes. It has a true thread, a helicoil is not a true standard thread... There is a tool that you can buy to install EZ loc inserts that makes it even easier..... Hope this helps... RJS Eng. |
