However it hasnt posed any problem the one time ive slid it around to make room for a cutting board, which i usually avoid doing with anything containing hot contents until cooled anyway. The outside does get hotter than the way old school models though (30 years ago). It seems like theyve stopped insulating them or use less insulation. However its not hot to the point of being a fire hazard. Kinda like boiling a pot of water, you wouldnt touch the pot, though this gets no where near that hot. Ive tried to verify the fire hazard claims, and even holding a match to this at high heat hasnt been hot enough to even light that.
