Answer:	Slots are NOT 1-1/2 wide which is why I bought this model. The width of the slots is less than 1-/4 and when you add the thickness of the wire rack that keeps the bread from touching the heater wires the space is less than 1-1/8 wide. Toaster choked on my bagel.

Answer:	It depends on how dark you want your toast and type of bread. My whole wheat bread took 105 seconds get it the way I liked it. I returned the both the original and the replacement because I wasn't satisfied with how the toast turned out. Only the upper edge was toasted.
