Answer: | To me the whole point of this canner is it does have lots of features (electronics are cheap). This single unit has replaced my crock pot, a smaller electric pressure cooker (That was not certified to can), and gives me a way to can smaller batches (Like the leftover chili I made with this device). The extra features are easy to use, so I don't see the downside. Plus it is way easier to use than hauling out my large stove top pressure canner. So yes, I would still consider it. This purchase was well worth it and will quickly pay for itself in better food and money saved. |

Answer: | This is not an error code. When the Carey shows E10 it is starting the venting process necessary to pressure can. The instructions, including the revised ones, are not clear on this. When you are pressure canning, the pressure limiting valve should be on "exhaust". After a bit, the Carey will beep and show E10, do nothing...you should allow the Carey to vent until the countdown reaches E0 and then switch the pressure valve to "airtight". The timer will begin shortly after you switch to "airtight". |

Directions:
1. Add 1/2 cup water to the pressure cooker pot and place the steamer basket in the bottom. Place the squash halves cut-side up in the steamer basket. Secure the lid and select manual. Cook on high pressure for 4 minutes, then allow the pressure to naturally release, about 5 minutes. Open the vent at the top and remove the lid.
2. Transfer the squash to a plate and set aside. Carefully remove the steamer basket, then lift the inner pot from the cooker and carefully drain the water. Dry the pot thoroughly and return to the cooker.

Answer: | The difference is in thickness and weight. 800 is 8 mils thick. 1200 is 12 mils thick and 1600 is 16 mils thick. We have found that the thicker blankets work best and last longer. We have had a 12 mil blanket that lasted 5 years. The 8 mil blanket we bought started breaking down after one year. The blankets were identical except thickness and weight. |

HOW TO USE AND CARE FOR YOUR ROASTER OVEN
1. Unpack your Nesco Roaster Oven completely and remove all packaging material and information labels. Place the Roaster Oven in a well ventilated area on a heat resistant surface. Set the control dial to its minimum setting. Plug the cord into a 120 volt AC outlet. Return control to maximum setting (450-degrees F). Operate the Roaster Oven empty (without the cookwell or cover) for approximately 60 minutes, or until any odor or smoking disappears. Some smoke and odor are a normal part of "curing" the element and will not reoccur in cooking use. When curing is completed, turn the temperature control to its lowest setting, unplug the unit from the electrical outlet and allow to cool.
2. Wash the cover, cookwell and rack in warm sudsy water, then rinse and dry. Refer to complete cleaning instructions in manual.
3. Non-stick cookwell: When 'curing' your Roaster Oven with a non-stick cookwell, we recommend that it be operated with cover and cookwell. Do this in a covered outside area or other well-ventilated area. After curing and cleaning, and before cooking in your non-stick cookwell for the first time, lightly coat the interior of the cookwell with vegetable oil.
HELPFUL HINTS
Preheat roaster oven for 20 minutes.
Roasting meat in your Nesco Roaster Oven keeps it moist and tender.
For additional browning, you can add 1 tbsp. browning sauce to oil and brush over skin before roasting.
To sear meat, preheat Roaster Oven at 450-degrees F. Add margarine. Cover, then sear meat for 10 to 15 minutes per side until lightly browned. Stir ground meat once. Time will vary depending on the quantity of meat. Alternative browning method for self-basting turkeys, preheat at 400-degrees F for 20 minutes. Roast bird for 1 hour at 400-degrees F. Reduce heat to 350-degrees using included time chart, 13-18 minutes per pound. During last hour of roasting increase temperature to 400-degrees and remove all excess juices in bottom of cookwell.

The heating element is only around the side walls, so the only heat on the bottom is what is conducted indirectly from the sides. After having the unit on 425 for 30 minutes, it will evaporate drops of water, but slowly (no rolling ball droplets that indicate searing temp). There is not enough heat to get a med-high sear as you would on a stovetop. I wish it stated more clearly that the element is only on the sides. I couldn't find that information on Amazon or Nesco's own site. I'm still looking for a true one pot solution that allows both searing and slow cooking without switching pans and/or appliances. |

Answer: | Sure, you can leave the solar cover on. It will still add some heat into the water but the better use is that it will keep debris out of the pool. Even if the pool is not used during the winter season. |

Answer: | Florida: 60 degrees...Utah: 80 degrees..... Solar covers are much more effective (and necessary) in the dry sunny climate found west of the Rockies than in the more humid climate east of the divide. In dry climates pools get cold even with lots of sun because almost all pool heat is lost through evaporation, and solar covers effectively reduce that. In June and July, solar radiation keeps my pool at 80-83 degrees if I cover the pool immediately after swimming to prevent evaporation. |
Question: | how do i find the sealers for this one |
Answer: | Even though the water heats up, it's trapped under the cover which minimizes the evaporation rate. (It would reduce it completely if it was totally sealed) There will be minimal evaporation around the sides, and if there are any holes that allow water to come to the top, but my "refill" rate has been cut at least 75-80%. Here during the summer, I used to have to refill every 7-10 days. So far I've done it only once in the last few weeks. Not sure if I can share links, but there is an article on energy (dot) gov on Swimming Pool Covers and it references some good stuff. |

Answer: | Bubble side down. The bubbles diffuse the sun's rays into the water warming it better than if the smooth side was down. Actually it will warm your pool a good 5 to 8 degrees more with the bubbles down (facing the water). Plus it adheres to the water better in windy situations. It is also easier to sweep or clean the solar blanket when the smooth side is up. |
