You can't adjust the sides to fit your loaf of bread so it slides from side to side and the side's of the cutting board fall over on to the bread with cutting. I do not recommend this item at all. The material is nice but it all stops there. |

| Answer: | One of the great features of the slicer is that you can choose the thickness of the slices. There are about four different thickness you can choose from. I can't give you exact numbers, as it will vary depending on your type of bread, bread slicer and your technique. You could probably slice some denser breads as thinly as 0.25 inches, up to about 0.75 inches. You will have to develop a slicing technique and keep it consistent, as the slots for the knife are a bit wide and you knife can wobble a bit as it cuts through the bread. Probably a system of always pressing the knife to one side of the slot would give the most consistent results. |

Upside is once it has enough wear, you can re-sand and re-oil the wood to make it good as new again. |

| Answer: | The knife is 13" overall with an 8" blade and the width of slicer's cutting area is 6" so yes, it is long enough to reach from side to side. A couple of things I'd like to share: When I first got the slicer, owing to my lack of experience I tried to use a 'long' stroke, sort of like sawing a 2 x 4. That did not end well and I've learned to use short, light strokes resulting in much better results. Also, in the beginning I tended to press down with the knife with the result that I mashed the bread to the consistency of modeling clay. Hence, that reference above to 'light' strokes . In the event your loaf is narrower than the cutting surface you may want to gently and carefully hold the loaf against one side while you're slicing. That will prevent the loaf from sliding side to side and should make the task a lot easier. I realize my reply may be a case of being asked the time and explaining how to make a watch but in any event, I hope it helps. Enjoy! |

The inner dimension of the board is 5.5' x 8', and, with bread knife normally has about 1' height, our slicer normally fits loaf size of 5.5' (width) x 7' (depending on the height of the blade). You can go with horizontal or vertical slicing like our images, your 5 inch width of your loaf would fit our 5.5' side, and the loaf height of "5 and a half ish inches" would be perfect for our 8' inch side, which should have more than enough room for the knife to get through as well.
