Question:	Does thermometer need to be at 0 before checking hot water? Don’t come with instructions and when putting into ice water, reads 40 not
Answer:	Not to my knowledge - just put it in to the water you want take the temperature of. You must be assuming Centigrade measures... in Fahrenheit 32 degrees is freezing; so unfrozen water, say with ice cubes added, measuring 40 degrees F. would make sense - about 8 degrees above freezing.

Answer:	If you dip it in the melted wax I don't know why not. (Of course, then you've got the job of cleaning the wax off.) Read it while it is in the wax, just as you would read it dipping it in any hot liquid.

Answer:	I would say "No." From my experience with candy making, it's better to have a thermometer you can place into the pot and leave there until the correct temperature is reached. This Taylor model is designed to be held in your hand for the few seconds it takes to register the reading. And except for the actual probe, the head, etc. is plastic. I'd suggest looking for something specifically designed for candy making.

Answer:	Yes, it has an auto off. My last Taylor lasted for years on a single battery because of this feature.

Answer:	It's possible, but I don't recommend it. It lacks the clip that you'd normally find on a candy thermometer, and the heat burns my hand when trying to use it hand held for this purpose. Also, if you're using gas the heat coming up the side of the pan will met it. I personally use my candy thermometer for candy and use this one for cooking, cappuccino milk, etc.

Question:	Hi, can i use this to take the oven tempeture
Answer:	NO, because the electronic part of it cannot withstand the heat of the over. Only the pointy tip of it is meant to be exposed to high temperature. It was deaigned to take quick reading of meat to make sure it's cooked at the center, but it's not meant to be removed and not kept inside the oven. You need the analog type instead if you want to keep it in the oven.
Question:	Can this thermometer be calibrated? (with some, you measure icewater and reset the temp to 32 degrees F
Answer:	No. This one can't be calibrated. However, the ThermoPro TP15 instructions give steps for calibration in an ice bath. I have both models. I think the TP15 is worth the extra cost. It also has the advantage of being faster and has a magnet to store it on the fridge.
