12 best epoxy for plastic

Epoxy for plastic typically refers to a type of adhesive or resin that is used to bond or repair plastic materials. Here are some general aspects of epoxy for plastic:

  1. Adhesive Properties:

    • Epoxy for plastic is designed to provide a strong and durable bond between plastic surfaces. It forms a robust connection, often stronger than the plastic itself.
  2. Versatility:

    • Epoxy is versatile and can be used on various types of plastics, including rigid and flexible plastics. It can be employed for bonding, repairing, or even reinforcing plastic items.
  3. Application:

    • Application methods may vary, but generally, epoxy for plastic comes in a two-part system that needs to be mixed before use. The mixture is then applied to the surfaces that need to be bonded or repaired.
  4. Curing Time:

    • Epoxy typically has a curing time during which it hardens and creates a strong bond. The exact curing time can vary based on the specific epoxy product and environmental conditions.
  5. Resistance:

    • Quality epoxy for plastic is often resistant to various environmental factors such as moisture, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations.
  6. Color Options:

    • Some epoxy products are available in different colors or can be tinted to match the color of the plastic being repaired. This is especially useful for items where aesthetics are important.
  7. Surface Preparation:

    • To ensure a strong bond, it's important to prepare the plastic surfaces properly before applying epoxy. This may involve cleaning and roughening the surfaces.
  8. Purpose:

    • Epoxy for plastic can be used for a wide range of applications in the kitchen, such as repairing plastic kitchen utensils, fixing broken plastic containers, or even creating custom solutions for specific needs.

When using epoxy for plastic, it's crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific product you're using. This includes adhering to recommended curing times, proper surface preparation, and any safety precautions mentioned by the manufacturer.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this material self-level
Answer: This Plastic Bonder Body Panel Adhesive is self-leveling, for a few minutes anyhow after mixing. This stuff dries to a very glossy surface even if disturbed immediately after application, so touchups are sorta possible. It is a two-part urethane and cures to a quite hard, durable, tough, and fairly strong plastic. It is almost more a solidifying liquid plastic than it is a glue, though it does seem to stick to stuff well. I look forward to making some casted plastic parts with this stuff by utilizing silicone molds that I make from 3d printed patterns There are many casting resins out there but sometimes I want small parts and this convenient two-part urethane should be a quick and easy application.
Question: Would this product work for gluing a plastic speaker cover back onto a rear plastic door panel
Answer: It depends on the plastic. I have had great success repairing a couple of "automotive" parts. It will either work or it won't. Make sure the surfaces are clean and free of dirt and oil. It helps to "ruff up" the surrounding surfaces with sand paper especially if the plastic surface is smooth and shiny.
Question: does is repair a very thin crack from the sun on dashboards
Answer: If you can get the bond inside the crack, i think it would work. I used it to repair a broken stained glass shade and a hanging plastic bug zapper roof. The bond dries hard and holds very well. It is glossy so it may show a little.
Question: is this product ok for a gas can seam that is bad. or will the gas eat it away
Answer: I would buy a new gas can or get a bigger insurance policy.

Answer: will this product repair a broken plastic door handle
Question: Can it be used more than once, or is thrown away after one use
Answer: Comes with a resealable cap, I opened mine at least two weeks ago and have still been able to use it (also used on multiple projects during those weeks). Just be careful to replace the cap in the same holes you removed it from or you will mix the two components and seal the lid.
Question: Will it seal a PVC pipe that has a 1 inch slit? Must hold 75lbs of water press. Would put a rubber patch & 2 pipe clamps over it
Answer: Yes, it is awesome! I've used it for years! It should work great!!
Question: Is this product good for the broken plastic frame of eyeglasses? The eyeglasses is broken on the temple leg
Answer: As an optician for over 30 years, sadly, nothing I've found short of a 2 part epoxy/resin will work...but only .temporarily. plus you'll probably get it everywhere including the lenses. I suggest visiting your local optician. I have tons of discontinued frames and can usually hand-edge the lenses if its a close fit . User questions & answers

Question: Work on battery
Answer: Might work on the plastic case - but I would not use in contact with battery acid
Question: Can this be used to fix a small crack in a dashboard
Answer: Yes! I used it to repair the vacuum
Question: Will this work on hdpe
Answer: I used this on a PVC job and it worked well for that, but I mixed it on a plastic lid that was HDPE (#2 recyclable) before applying it. There was some left on the lid, and after it dried, it pealed right off the lid, so I'm not too sure about using this on HDPE.
Question: I want to bond glass to polypropylene. Does this work? If not any good epoxy that works for this
Answer: I did not know if the plastic bonder would stick to glass, so I tried it on some empty glass jars and old prescription pill bottles which were made of Polypropylene, (type 5 plastic). I cleaned and sanded both the plastic bottles and the glass jars. I applied the JB Weld Plastic Bonder to one sample and also tried PC-11 Marine Power Epoxy Paste on another, (the jars and bottles were put together bottom to bottom). After they had cured I tried to pull them apart. Both the Plastic Bonder and the Epoxy Paste held with light pulls and twists. Both came apart with a medium/heavy pull. Both the Plastic Bonder and the Epoxy Paste stuck tenaciously to the glass jar, and came off cleanly from the plastic bottle. So it does stick to glass rather well, while holding, but not bonding to the Polypropylene bottle. I would try some on your particular application, (a sample), and see if the medium holding power to the Polypropylene will work for you. The Plastic Bonder was much easier to mix and apply than the Epoxy Paste. The Plastic Bonder cured in about two hours while it took 24 hours for the Epoxy Paste to cure. Both had about the same results as far as the holding power, but the Plastic Bonder when mixed is like a gel, while the Epoxy is a much thicker paste, which means you could use it to fill gaps and holes. It was easy to file/sand the Plastic Bonder after it had cured, the Epoxy Paste could be worked after it had cured, but it was much harder to do so.

Gorilla 2 Part Epoxy, 5 Minute Set, .85 Ounce Syringe, Clear, (Pack of 1)

Gorilla

Based on 9 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Gorilla takes epoxy to a new level—the Gorilla Tough level. With its superior solvent and water resistance, Gorilla Epoxy adhesive is incredibly strong and durable for household and automotive repairs alike. The easy-to-use syringe keeps the epoxy resin and hardener separate, so it is easy to dispense and won’t harden over time. The two-part, gap-filling formula easily bonds steel, aluminum, glass, wood, ceramic, tile and most plastics. Plus, it dries in an ideal, crystal-clear finish that makes projects look spotless. Directions: 1. Prepare Your Work Area and the Surface: It is recommended to use Gorilla Epoxy in a well-ventilated area. Prepare the surface: To improve adhesion, roughen smooth surfaces before gluing. Then clean and dry all surfaces to be bonded. 2. Mixing Gorilla Epoxy: Remove the black cap. With tip pointing upward, cut or snap the end from tip of the syringes. With the tip still pointing upward, eliminate air and ensure even dispensing by slowly pushing the plunger until both the resin and the hardener are at the tip. Push the plunger to dispense even amounts of resin and hardener onto a clean, disposable, contained surface. Mix the two parts for about 20 seconds, until the mixture is uniform. 3. Application: After mixing is complete, apply Gorilla Epoxy within 5 minutes. The epoxy mixture will continue to thicken and the bond strength will decrease the longer you wait to apply. 4. Clamping: To reach maximum bond strength, clamp project together and leave undisturbed. Important Cure Times: Set: 5 minutes to apply and position Handling: Allow to cure for 30 minutes undisturbed (no weight or handling) Final Cure: Allow 24 hours for load-bearing weight Storage: To close, pull plunger slightly back. Wipe tip clean with dry cloth and align notch on tip and cap. Close tightly. Click on the Gorilla link at the top of this page to see more fine products from the Gorilla Glue Company.

  • Strong, permanent, fast and gap-filling; Great for multiple surface applications
  • Best for tough repairs requiring a durable bond, gap-filling and solvent resistance
  • Dries clear; Ideal for clean, easy finishing
  • 5 minute set; Plenty of repositioning time for the perfect fit
  • Easy-to-Use Syringe; Separate barrels of resin and hardener keep epoxy from hardening, plus syringe dispenses evenly and includes a cap for multiple uses

User questions & answers

Question: Will Gorilla glue work on hanging something on ceramic tile
Answer: I have zero doubt that it will work. I would prep the surface of the tile with sandpaper or steel wool at the least.
Question: Will this work to fix an axe head
Answer: I used this to fix a maul head to the handle. It was slipping thru extended use and looked like it would come off soon. First sanded and cleaned the fiberglass handle with acetone to created a rough and clean surface. Then wiped the inside of the mall head with acetone. Mixed up a big batch since I didn't want to fall short of product once I started filling. Applied it liberally to the handle then slipped the head on and used the rest to fill in around any crevice left around the head until it was one pool of epoxy flush with the head top. Let it sit for a day then used. Been over a year and it has not had any sign of slipping and looks the same as when I first glued it on.
Question: I need a clear epoxy to cover and protect a circuit i made in a small box mod i made. its for a small 4- 6 volt device. is this ok
Answer: Probably YES is your answer with NO guarantees, since I have never used an epoxy to cover ANY type of circuits. I HAVE HOWEVER, used a SILICONE SEALANT (marine grade) also available through AMAZON, to cover AND seal electrical circuits on several watercraft I have owned over the years. ALL with great success. The beauty of the silicone is that it dries clear and can easily be removed while the epoxy dries to an amber hue and is almost impossible to remove. Once it dries, it's there forever. MY suggestion is use a marine grade (waterproof) silicone sealant. GOOD LUCK!
Question: I'm thinking of using this on ceramic cookware. Is it heat resistant up to 500 degrees F
Answer: MamaO - researched question - Do NOT use Gorilla epoxy on food ceramics. For other ceramics other than food, should be ok up to 180. From 200-500, epoxy will de-compose. / Look for food safe stuff only, but best to not repair your ceramic for food use. What you want is hard to find !

User questions & answers

Question: Will this work on a small engine plastic gas tank
Answer: Actually, the Data Sheet from Loctite states: Chemical and Solvent Resistance: Resistant to water, salt water, unleaded gasoline, diesel fuel and motor oilhttp://www.loctiteproducts.com/tds/EPXY_PLSTC_S_tds.pdfI'd be certain to follow all of the preparation instructions listed in that document though... cleaning, roughing-up. etc.
Question: Depicted on the package is a white polypropylene lawn chair. Will this product do a repair of that item
Answer: I haven't found many plastics to which it will bond, so I'd say no...it would not work. Especially something you expect to hold a person off the ground.
Question: Will this bond hdpe to hdpe
Answer: I disagree. HDPE is a slick nylon-like plastic and this stuff fails miserably on any of those compounds.
Question: What color is it when it dries? Clear
Answer: Hello, I would say it's more grey but one the clear side though. I am not sure if the percentages of the mix makes a difference. I mixed it 50/50. Hops this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: can you send the epoxy through the planer once it has cured
Answer: Absolutely! Once it is fully cured you can do that.
Question: I used (a lot!) of this resin for a river table for a client. They're wondering how to best keep the surface clean. What do you suggest
Answer: Definitely nothing harsh. We normally suggest Windex or mild soapy water and rag.
Question: Im making a table 3×3 2 inchs thick how much woukd i need to cover it
Answer: Length X Width X Height = the volume needed, then convert it to gallons or liters. 36"x36"x2"=2592 cubic inches which equals 11.22 gallons if my math is correct. If you have any material inside of the table like wood or metal that will have to be subtracted from the volume. Hope that helps.
Question: How long do you wait between pours for a thicker project
Answer: I have poured between 2-3 inches successfully. More than that and you can do one of two things: 1) wait about15-20 hours and pour while the first coat is still tacky yet firm so that it can chemically bond. 2) Wait 36-48 hours for it to harden, sand it lightly and then pour sonit can mechanically bond

Product features

Crystal Clear Finish

High gloss, ultra clear finish makes our Pourable Plastic Epoxy Resin perfect for River Tables, Live Edge Tables, Jewelry, Figurine, and other Castings. However, epoxy is not flexible. River tables must be supported to prevent flexing which could cause cracking.

*Do not pour over oil-based paint or stain.

Common Question: My project is painted or stained with an oil based product, what can I do?

A: You can apply a water based clear coat (must be water based). Once the water based clear coat has fully cured, you can apply the epoxy. If the clear coat leaves a shine/gloss you may want to scuff the surface to ensure the epoxy properly sticks. We recommend using 320 grit sandpaper. If you do sand, be sure to thoroughly clean the surface prior to applying the epoxy. We recommend using Isopropyl Alcohol 99% (be sure it is 99%) to clean.

UV Resistant

Although most epoxies will yellow over time, some resist yellowing caused by exposure to ultraviolet light better than others. Our epoxy contains UV Inhibitors which helps to resist yellowing. *Although our epoxy is UV resistant, which resists yellowing, we do not recommend leaving finished projects in direct sunlight or for permanent outdoor applications.

Common Question: Can I use this on a table that will be outside on a covered patio?

A: It is possible to leave the epoxy outdoors if not exposed to direct UV exposure. If the epoxy is exposed to direct UV, the epoxy can yellow. This will be more noticeable on white or lightly colored substrates/surface. We recommend exercising caution when considering use over white or light-colored surfaces.

It is also important to consider temperature fluctuations. Materials such as metal and glass can expand and contract at a different rate from the epoxy. This could cause glass to crack or the epoxy to peel away from a metal surface.

Deep Pour 2" Thick

Many coating epoxies require thin pours of no more than 1/8-1/4 Inch per application. Our Pourable Plastic Deep Pour is capable of pours up to 2 Inches Thick. This is a very slow curing product allowing for longer work times and low heat exotherm. Be sure curing products are kept in a clean, dry, dust-free environment.

Common Question: Does your epoxy require specific temperature environment to mix/pour epoxy?

A: The ideal working temperature is around 77°F. Best results can be obtained at temperatures between 75°F and 85°F, in a clean, dry, dust-free environment. Avoid working in high humidity. It is important you keep your project in this environment throughout the entire curing process. We recommend using this product on a leveled and flat work surface so that it can flow and self-level properly.

Colored Epoxy Compatible

How To Color Epoxy: Our epoxy mixes well with mica pigment powders for colored epoxy applications. River tables, resin art canvas and more may require tinted epoxy. Epoxy is not meant to be mixed with or poured over oil-based products. Do not pour over oil-based paint or stain.

Common Question: What type of pigment or dye should I use with this epoxy.

A: We do not recommend mixing epoxy with paint or anything oil based. Many of our customers use mica pigment powders. Mica pigment powders come in many different colors, glitters, metallics, and even glow in the dark.

Common Question: How Much Pigment Powder Should I Use?

A: This is a subjective answer as it depends on the certain hue and level of opacity desired. We suggest starting with a very small amount and adding more until the desired color is achieved. We also always suggest testing a small scrap piece of material to understand how the epoxy will flow and how the color will cure in the epoxy.

Easy To Use 2:1 By Volume Mixture

Impact Resistant & Superior Air Release

Popular uses include river tables, embedding pictures or embedding solid objects into a desired surface, casting figurines, jewelry making and more. Because this is a thick pour epoxy resin, it cures very slowly. Cure times can be 36-48 hours depending on temperature, which is quite a bit longer compared to a coating epoxy like our Table Top & Bar Top Epoxy.

User questions & answers

Question: can this be used to fill in deep scrapes in a bumper
Answer: I don't think I would use it for that. This epoxy will harden to a durable hard plastic, much like ABS. Although it does have some elasticity it's really designed for more rigid applications than a typical bumper cover. This is great for repairing things like cracked or broken plastic as might be found in car dashboards or appliances. It could even be used to rebuild areas that have missing areas.
Question: Is this product heat resistance? I need something to repiar holes in a plastic solar water heater
Answer: I used this on some hub covers of my truck lug nuts. it is very hard when cured. Only good if fresh shelf life bad. make sure you ruff things up to bond to your piping or what ever.
Question: My hardshell bag was slit during handling - 2", sides could be fitted together. The shell has give in that spot. Will it hold up to baggage handling
Answer: If the hardshell has some good years of use ahead, I would give it a try. My experience with the product is that it held up very well in repairing a cracked door that gets a good deal of use. How it will hold up depends on how well the material is applied and how much rough handling the bag gets, among other things. Good luck.
Question: Is the final color actually black
Answer: Yes. A matte black

User questions & answers

Question: Could this be used to fix a small (1 x 1/4 inch) crack in a dryer drum? Is there danger it will come off on the clothes
Answer: When I have had questions about JB Weld products I have called JB Weld & they have answered with good information. Your problem is special because of the temperature that the drum attains. Ask JB Weld.
Question: Is this product electrically conductive
Answer: It is NOT electrically conductive. JB Weld is classified as an insulator my the manufacturer (see JB Weld FAQs). In fact it's rated to be microwave safe. Metallic conductors should never be used in a microwave oven, but JB Weld is OK for microwave use.
Question: I have a number of small leaks in an older aluminum boat-- would JB work for a repair on this as a weld/filler for small punctures? thanks
Answer: This is a general purpose epoxy that worked great for me on cast iron. It does say you can use it for marine purposes, however you might also consider their product made specifically for water:http://www.amazon.com/J-B-Weld-8277-Water/dp/B000BRQ0TW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1392730373&sr=8-5&keywords=jb+weldor look into the Permatex product made specifically for metalshttp://www.amazon.com/Permatex-84109-PermaPoxy-Minute-Multi-Metal/dp/B000ALDXV2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392730252&sr=8-1&keywords=metal+epoxy
Question: block crack between cyls 5 & 7 against the head, at the narrowest point between cyls. both cyls are sleeved. will jb hold the temp without breaking do
Answer: thanks gpower. was looking online at the temp ratings of different epoxy products, actually found one @2100F, but with low tensile strength. I would like to stay away from welding as the crack is five eights long and sleeved at each end. just now pressure testing and the waterjacket has held 30 lbs for 12 hrs. I may also entertain some of the hi-tech block sealers, if it continues to hold pressure. thanks again for your input, and wish me luck putting life back in this old hemi. Dean

User questions & answers

Question: If I let paint dry in these will it peel out of the cup easily
Answer: I have not tried that. But they seem to be a plastic that would do that. Sorry for the vague answer.
Question: Are the measurement marking on the inside or outside of the cup? As in, is the inside perfectly smooth
Answer: Printed on the outside, inside is smooth. The bottom does have a structure ring like most plastic cups.
Question: How do you clean them? Soap & water? Happy pouring & Thanks
Answer: Honestly.... they are so thin that they are not worth cleaning... I typically leave a popsicle stick that I used for stirring in the cup so that when it dries I can just get it out with the dried resin... but these are disposable for a reason for sure! Super thin...not worth re-using.
Question: Where are these made
Answer: The bar code prefix (first three numbers) on my order received is 860 which means Serbia & Montenegro by GS1. Upon reading up on bar codes/ UPC labels, that identifies the country of origin where the manufacturer handles the product but, may not actually make the product. Confusing, I know.
