Answer:	Don't know if either piece is BPA free, but handle doesn't come in contact with food and I use a knife to cut the pineapple rings into pieces and tossed the plastic ring.

Answer:	The removable handle is plastic, the one piece shaft tube and blade is stainless steel. At first, I was skeptical, but it is very easy to use follow instructions. I use it twice, and feel really worth the cost.

Answer:	Its a "depth guide" so you wont pierce the bottom.. basically you measure the pineapple first on the sidd and determine where you stop.

Answer:	I assume it should help but have found that this pineapple slicer is very poorly designed and didn't work for me. It required so much strength to penetrate the pineapple that I could not operate it. Also, being plastic, the blade was too thick and not sharp enough to cut. It mashed the pineapple rather than slice. I gave it to my daughter but she has not yet let me know how it worked for her. I cannot recommend the slicer and the ratcheting did not seem to help.
