Answer:	Hi, no it can not be washing rice. I used it for knitting and crocheting it separates my yarn. Of course you can use it to wash vegetables. Such as baby carrots, peas and string beans. Good luck.

Answer:	Michael J. Netto answered "...spot welds do not hold". You can get some small stainless bolts & lockwashers @ hardware store & drill 3 holes for bolts to attach the 2 pieces. I did that & saved a few $$$ there. (Getting accustomed to repairing poorly made goods now. Most repaired goods hold up for a good long time after. Most times it's the glue (goop works well in that case) or other jointing - screws & bolts for those occasions. Saves $$$ & more hunting & ordering - easier to repair many things than keep buying & trying.

Answer:	Unlike the pots and pans which are made in the US, the colander was made for All-Clad in China. It is very heavy duty and high quality. Most of my kitchen cookware is made by All-Clad, it will last many lifetimes.

Answer:	They're made of steel, so... yes. However, they are NOT designed to go into the oven.

Answer:	Actually, we returned this colander and buy another one because the holes where too big for rice. I recommend the "10" Stainless Steel Strainer with Support Handle". That's the one I got and the holes are small enough to rise quinoa.

Answer:	My colander is a 7" model, but you can probably infer a quarter-inch rim on the 10" model. But consider the terrible engineering of the handle (below). The 7" inch colander is 7.5" outside diameter, no question. The inside diameter (i.e., the size of a saucepan it would fit inside) is about 7". The handle is 6" long, if only the spot welds would hold it on. Mine lasted only a couple of months before the welds fatigued and the handle fell part-way off. One might think that the steel wire of the handle would encircle the strainer, but it doesn't. It's spot welded to the perforated strainer body and a bit of the rim, and after tapping the water off a few dozen times, the welds give out, rendering the thing pretty much useless. A shame, since it's a nice size and proportion.

Answer:	7/22/15This is designed to be a strainer. But I do not see why it could not be used as a steamer given you have the proper sized pot for it to sit in and a cover. I think it would be fine for veggies. The small holes will keep in small pieces. If it is to be used for rice or something like that, for example, I would invest in a rice steamer. It is well constructed and easy to clean, by the way.
